1LT Worm
Now that I have unlimited texting with my phone plan, I use Twitter. I agree, the news media talks about it way too often, but then again, they over concentrate on one topic ad nauseam, because that's how news coverage works. So, I know a lot of shit pisses you off DW, but you need to learn to chill and deal with it.
Herotokami
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PN2HAroA12w This is basically all I know about Twitter and it seems about right. Like Facebook status updating but without the Facebook.
shadowgoten
I agree with just about everyone here, luckily I have never managed to sign up for a twitter thank god. I just can't understand why people are so batshit about it, i don't care about you that much, facebook has status updates for this kind of thing, keep it there. I ALMOST thought it'd be a good idea to start a gaming twitter where i'd throw down random thoughts on a few games i'd play through, then i realized, why not just get a fucking blog dick. Candescence
Eh, Twitter isn't that good, but it's fun to screw around with or simply look at the "character accounts" that have popped up. Some of that stuff is quite entertaining.
flame6753
Lol I have a myspace and thats it, I got pissed off when I first heard about facebook, don't even get me started on twitter!
Ristar
I have a Twitter account and I'm cool. I'm following a couple of pornstars, doug stanhope, the gadget show cast, charlie brooker and a few friends. I quite like Twitter, it's just the most fun thing about facebook transferred into a nice little site.
DimensionWarped
So, I know a lot of shit pisses you off DW, but you need to learn to chill and deal with it. Sorry, but I prefer to vent. Slingerland
Sorry, but I prefer to vent. That is my way of chilling out and dealing with it. It's true. Some people vent to "deal." Me included. gg worm.

Rael0505
I quite like Twitter, it's just the most fun thing about facebook transferred into a nice little site. Most fun? Are you serious? That's the most ANNOYING thing about facebook. What I will NEVER understand is why people think we care that they're about to go make a sandwich, or that they just got off work, or that their day sucks but they're finally about to watch TV and feel better. It actually offends me that they think I care. I would be embarrassed to announce what I'm doing every five minutes simply because I know no one is going to give a shit. These are really lonely people. The worst is the couple friends I have who post emo statuses every hour or so. I hate hearing shit like "my heart hurts..." or "sigh... another crappy night" or "I'm depressed." I actually hit the "like" button every time someone posts an emo status, or respond with "LOL" or something else equally annoying.
Ristar
aha, but why bother being friends on facebook with people who irritate you like that? filter out the emo dickpumps so you're left with the people you care about.
Rael0505
Yeah I've actually recently cleared out my friends list a little, removing the people who update their status every ten minutes. I actually do enjoy seeing what people are up to, but some people are just really annoying. It just bothers me because some of these people I really like IRL. Facebook just allows them to be really annoying online.

On the subject of the first paragraph, it actually makes you look like a pompous douche to even think that people care what you're doing at all times. It's like saying "My life is much more interesting than yours. I'm sure you only added me so that you can get a piece of it." And on the second, yeah, I delete those people. There was this one kid I knew who turned into a total whiny bastard when his "fiance" left him. (I put fiance in quotes because they had only been together for three months and had already decided to get married.) About a week ago, he posted his suicide note and told everyone goodbye. I posted a comment on it that just said "Seriously?", and he replied three hours later with "Yes, I'm serious. And I'm sorry.". I couldn't say anything other than "Well, then why are you still here?". Long story short, he was full of shit and just crying for attention like the rest. It always surprises me how the most normal people in person can be the most emo, pathetic morons on the internet. EDIT: Rael, I updated my facebook status just fer yew. Sir Euan
I have to defend Twitter. I am a design student and through twitter I've made contacts with other designers, helped promote each other. I've also made contacts with people in bands/management and got work designing band tshirts, cd artwork etc. Twitter is helping me pay bills AND getting my invaluable experience with clients that will make me that much more employable when I graduate from Art School. Yes, there are people who don't use it properly but don't you don't blame the hammer if someone can't put some shelves up on a wall properly. Twitter can be useful for people who actually have something going on, or have some product that people are interested in the progress of. 99% of the people who use it don't have either. We're talking about the mindless masses that love to sit there and blog "I'm hungry" or "I'm going to go lay down".
Ristar
in all fairness, if it offends you so much then stay the fuck away from it and don't bitch and give it more unnecessary hype. it's not as though it's something that breaks into your house at 2am and fucks your children. Perry_
I think Twitter was fine until Celebrities stumbled upon it. Now Twitter is filled with crap about celebrities. Following your friends Twitter can work quite well, say they post a "tweet" about a party they are throwing next Friday night, people subscribed then have the details for it on their phone and computer. However after celebrity influence, people have been trying to copy them by posting when they butter a piece of toast. With small time productions (such as web tv) and small time games (including fan games), you can be updated when a new episode releases or when a new demo releases right away, of course you can always check forums but people like the convenience of being notified. Another example would be The webseries: The Guild, had signed a new deal with Microsoft to produce another season they then twittered to tell they're fans that they were going to make another season. They known the big fans would want to know asap, so Twitter updates like that are part of their fan service. To sum it up Twitter is a tool which has been mishandled by mainstream media and Hollywood, which are trying to latch onto anything Web 2.0 in an attempt to be "down with the kids". Ristar
you can always choose to not follow or not be followed by celebs... twitter is only a problem if you make it one.
DimensionWarped
No, Twitter is only a problem if the television won't shut the fuck up about it when covering completely unrelated things.
