  1. man I LOVE the look of this level! Really awesome! Then again, so is everything you do.
  2. This is an awesome idea and anyone who has any kind of trailer or demo should take this opportunity! It'll give both the game and the community positive attention.
  3. That's freakling AWESOME. I'm amazed. Nothing needs to be changed, I love the style. Can't wait for this beta I'm hearing about!
  4. Everything on this page is amazing and you guys are awesome.
  5. I'm thrilled to see people liked the ruins. It was my first creation that actually came together in the end. And the bricks were custom. I plan on redoing many of the decorations so it's more custom than reused, but new zones are always the focus. Just to show you it hasn't disappeared though... LOL I noticed, but it took me a very long time. I just had to change the Y scrolling value of the parallax. Alternatively making the level smaller would have fixed it. Everything's a work in progress. I'm cooking up some stuff that I think will blow your minds, but can't show off all the hideous placeholder graphics just yet. But here are some examples of other stuff we're working on to show progress hasn't halted. First off, the engine's been touched up a lot. Rolling down slopes can allow Sonic to gain more air off half pipes and such: (Clouds scroll now omg, screenshots are totally bad at illustrating that) (I realize I didn't manage to get the half pipe in the screenshot. But it's there. for real.) edit2: SLANTY LOOPS!!1 Lots of stuff is placeholder... Sonic now can jump to the ceiling as he could in Sonic 3. Gamerdude never fails to pull stuff off. You guys haven't seen enough of this corkscrew yet. You'd be surprised how long it takes to make some slight variations of tiles. A lot of errors in tiles may seem obvious, but believe me, I'm aware of them. I even plan on redoing many of the things in there, but placeholder's just a way of not having to deal with it all at once. I have a ton of gimmicks in the works - this zone will definitely play like something new. You haven't seen half of it yet. edit-- going to show off more tiles too, since other people may find it beneficial: If you think working with my snow tiles looks difficult, you'd be right. Working with grass is awesome on the other hand - nothing has to connect in a certain way. I find myself having to make more tiles than necessary so they line up as I want them to sometimes. But once you set up a few templates it becomes easy to work in variations. I plan on making lots of tutorials on making this stuff as manageable as possible, I just have to wait until I'm less swamped with work. Also you can see all those freaking slopes I made for no reason that are all different. I'll probably keep making random tiles throughout the creation of the zone. It's like there's always something else that can be done. haha Btw, feel free to use these: Most of my slope templates. But I encourage you to make your own as well. Personally I will try to make it a point not to reuse templates between zones. lol at how fugly snow can start to look when skewed. I did at least edit it to improve it -- Next time I update will be with something completely new. I updated a lot of small stuff so you can see what some of my time has been going toward, but it'll be a bit longer before I show you the trademarks of the zone. If anyone ever wants help with their game or anything they should hit me up on AIM or MSN, I'm suddenly into this again and I'd be willing to check out anything you guys are up to and help where I can. Especially if you're new to this stuff and need direction. I could always use some feedback too.
  6. This looks so awesome! The graphics are great and the mechanics are just right. I'd love to see what kind of original twist you take with it. Moving bumpers sounds like an idea. This is a little different from what we usually see. Thanks for sharing and keep up the great work.
  7. I guess this means I'm going to start signing on skype. You've gotten so good at everything over the past few years that I need to go to you for help now haha. How things change. I'm online. I don't think I see you on my contacts list, so just message me whenever you're on. My skype username is Rael0505, like everywhere else.
  8. I tend to go crazy with parallax, the ice zone has like 17 layers. It looks really smooth!
  9. I was mistaken earlier when I said Blyde was the one working on the new Sparkling Seaside tiles, it's actually Naoshi. I don't know how I thought that. haha
  10. Love it Delta! Keep up the good work! You're off to a great start.
  11. I made a tutorial on how to make loops for genesis style backgrounds here: http://sonicunited.org/hsfqmtif/forum/showthread.php?t=5346 edit: Actually, stickying that thread sounds like a good idea. If you have any questions or my instructions were unclear anywhere, feel free to ask and I'll explain in more detail.
  12. Thanks a lot for the tip! You're right, I did get lazy there. It wasn't the victim of the eraser tool exactly, I did color the edge myself. I had just spent so many hours on it that I didn't care that the border was so much thinner than the others. I'm going to continue touching up graphics as well as replacing some of the more obviously borrowed material with original content. For example, I'm going to sprite my own waterfall instead of keeping the Angel Island one for the ice zone, and I'm definitely replacing the clouds in Sparkling Seaside. It's not that hard to sprite these things, so I don't plan on cutting corners instead of creating something original. For the sake of my sanity though, I'm gonna make these changes to the graphics slowly over time rather than all at once. I realize my dissatisfaction with all of my background sets has been holding me back from designing levels, and it feels good to finally be creating something with my art. Also, I'm surprised no one has complained about the Sparkling Seaside screenshot yet. The foreground is much too vibrant for the background, they don't quite fit. Blyde (or I if he'd rather) will eventually tone it down and make the palettes match better. The reason it's so bright is because it once did match the background: The decision to replace the ocean background with the one I had previously made was done kind of spontaneously, so it's not necessarily final. It could always be used elsewhere. But I could see Blyde's tiles going well with it too. Thanks for the feedback, guys.
  13. NOW IN WIDESCREEN!!1:aparty: It feels good to be back.
  14. Three Mile Bikeride - Craig D'Andrea I'm Not Funny - Craig D'Andrea (incomplete, but what's there is pretty good) Craig D'Andrea - Standing Still Antoine Dufour - Cold Day (on a classical guitar - plays and sounds a bit different, but this may be my best guitar cover ever) Into your Heart - Antoine Dufour Ashes in the Sea - Antoine Dufour So tell me which ones you liked, didn't like, bothered watching, etc please A little over a year ago I found out I live like 45 minutes away from Craig D'Andrea and actually took lessons with him for a few months (I immediately emailed him upon realizing how close we are hahaha). Taking lessons with one of your guitar idols is a pretty amazing experience, and I think I've improved a lot over the last year. As you could see if you compare, say, my new Three Mile Bikeride cover with my old one from April '09. I can't believe how awful I was just two and a half years ago Anyway thanks for watching guys. edit: also sfghq should totally support video embedding. if i had little thumbnails of what the videos looked like here it would be much more enticing for you all to watch all my links than having a list of links to click... second edit: also, all these videos were recorded after my lessons with craig with the exception of Ashes in the Sea. that video was recorded a few days before my first lesson with him, to show him where I was at. It's a decent cover, but I could make an even better one and probably will eventually. third edit: there we go, I replaced the links with thumbnails (that i got from copying the image location of the thumbnails off my youtube channel rofl) that you click on to take you to the videos. that's way more interesting.
  15. That's the blur effect, when Sonic reaches a certain speed it creates a semi-transparent after-image. It looks pretty cool in motion. You can disable it (along with other things like parallax) in the pause menu if it slows down your system, but I never bother doing that before taking these quick screenshots (they may as well be mock-ups, since I'm not actually designing any level yet...) Thanks for all the suggestions and feedback, guys. When I make another breakthrough I'll post it haha. I want to get Emerald Ties moving again.
  16. What if I make it into pillars like these? Does it still not belong? haha excuse the motion blur, I forgot to turn it off.
  17. Ding ding ding! Your answer is right. Or at least, it's the closest. I'll give the answer, anyone see anything that looks alike? As for the snow, Blyde, Nitemare, and Euan all had a hand in helping to make it! edit: ^ And here are some end tiles. Funny how the snow is a lot bigger on one side than the other.
  18. There's some amazing stuff in this thread, I'm really impressed. Glad you guys are still making cool stuff. I tried making something new for the first time in a while, tell me how it looks: the indoor wall I mean, not the sprite. That's Blyde's amazing work. +Rep to anyone who can guess what the source for this was
  19. Blazefire needs to stfu for being more of a pest in his glory days than anyone else SFGHQ has encountered combined. Also, just to contribute something, some of my old stuff: Incomplete. Need to make a few more tiles, but I've been lazy. ^ and this is kind of old, it's never been released and will probably never be used. This is from the 2004 early build of the engine test!
  20. Way overdue for a haircut: I am so obviously not a model hahahaha. I'm sorry.
  21. We actually have a rule on making "I'm leaving" threads if you're not an active member of the community (seriously, check the sticky again), so I'm going to lock this. I don't know why you'd expect any of us to care if you have fewer than 10 posts on this forum. None of us know you, and you didn't offer anything substantial enough to warrant conversation either. Congrats on making a commercial video game company, I guess? Locked.
  22. This thread makes me so happy <3 I've been away from here lately too guys, I've missed all of you but emerald ties stuff awww yes.
  23. This ^ It's a pretty project, but at the end of the day it's just a remake of a game I've played a lot already. If it were an original fangame with these graphics I'd be really interested, though. Looks like they won't be doing countdowns anymore. That's good.
  24. looool post a real pic dood. also i hope your custom title is meant to be ironic, because i think it is and it makes me laugh. Anyway guyz this is my friend cat and we went to mcdonald's and got kids' meals for the toy and then took a lot of pictures in class: because we're fucking awesome. on a side note, i had to request a girl's toy because they wouldn't give me a hello kitty watch, they gave me some shitty transformer shit or something. fuck that. the watch doesn't seem to work, but it's more of a fashion statement than anything. also i'm wearing her headband. i'm so fashionable. and she has the greatest dog ever named missy. look how in love we are: d'awww. okay, i'm done edit: okay, now i'm REALLY done.
