Hey, I posted this at s2b already, you might have seen most/all these screens, but this is also about information =)

s2b post:

Hi, I've posted about this game here before, I've just retaken the quiz and thought this would be a good time to show this again.

Anyways, Sonic XG is gonna be a fangame that directly continues the story from the end of S3K, in pure retro style. It will feature 10 zones, 8 with 2 acts, 2 with 1 act

??? ??? Zone - Secret/surprise intro zone

Final Fall Zone - Set on the floating island, the ruins of the Death hurtling towards it from space. In Act 2 the Death Egg explodes and you must run accross the island as it crumbles and falls apart. (screens are an engine test zone using act1's grpahics)

These 2 shots are ingame:

Peak Panic Zone - You fall from the crumbling floating island to the icey peaks below. The layout of the first 1/2 of act 1 is below, click to see 25% full size.

Wood Works Zone - A huge water powered factory in a forest/wood, powered by water wheels and the like.

Palm Paradiso Zone - Green Hill tribute of sorts, typical sonic paradise zone. (screens of this zone are mockups using ingame gfx)

Desert Dash Zone - Inspired by dust hill/desert zone's graphics, it will be a desert level featuring pyramid sections that work like the interior sections of Launch Base Act 1/Flying Battery. (Screen is mockup)

Cosmic Chasm Zone - Teleported from a pyramid, your hugh above the planet on a huge comet/asteroid or something, with beams that will toggle your gravity. (screens are mocks)

Golden Gate Zone - Back down to the planet, your above a huge city, and work your way down into the main part of it in Act 2, complete with casinoey sections. (screens are mocks).

Chaos Central Zone - The final zone persay, SXG's answer to death egg (and partly inspired by the discovery of the genocide city/machine link/discovery thing), these screens are from a very early test of the layout, excuse the lack of rings/springs/enemies etc

Hi again. Anyways some news, Sonic XG's engine is pretty much near complete, all it needs are zone specific gimmicks/bosses etc, which are added when we make the zones.

The zones are starting to come together (as you might have seen in the screenshot thread) and well, It's been a long time coming, but me and nitemare don't work on SXG maybe as much as some people think, it's an on and off project. That being said, the game will definately be released this year, if it's not I'll dump it, and that is not happening, so expect 100% of SXG before 2008.

Oh, and zones are now split into 3 acts instead of 2, cos we want the zones to be pretty big. We were gonna split each act into 2 parts so they could be sonic 3k sized, but that sucks a bit, so 3 acts! (even more like Sonic CD now =), but act 3 will be proper sized, not a mini act.)

You don't leave things for imagination XD. If you show all levels there will be no surprises!.

Nice job. I like a lot all your levels.

Theres 2 zones not shown darling, and a whole other bunch of stuff, all I've shown is the foundations of the game.

I was also wondering that, Spike. The only thing that came to mind was some sort of character-switching ingame or perhaps character segments like in Next but being that this game is going for Retro I'm doubting that.

Anyway, these screens look incredibly amazing. Similar to what Azu said, this makes me want to get back into gamedev.

Apparently only few can bear the patience of making a game from start to finish though. These little sparks of motivation these highly disciplined developers have bestowed on you will run dry quick if you don't let yourself be brought down by the thought of effort.

Ontopic: Wow... This is a game I've been craving to play since way back in the PHPBB days (When people still fangamed)...

Has there been a demo release in the past? Because if so, I'd love to play it and see what I've been missing.
