Sonic Unleashed

Adding new characters isn't half the big deal we make it out to be. Adding new characters who hog the focus and fuck up the game while simultaneously being complete shit as far as characters though, is. In the end, it isn't what SEGA does that makes SEGA annoying. It's how SEGA does it.

And because we know how Sega adds characters is why we don't want any new ones. Each and every single new character in the past few games has produced pointless dialogue, plot hooks and 'innovative' (buggy) gameplay as well as more Sonic porn...

The guide for the Wii version is out. Someone uploaded some scans of the final stages. If you've played a Sonic game, you've played the last stage:

Evil alien's final form is some giant piece of shit. Sonic goes Super Sonic (I always wonder why he never thinks "why didn't I do this sooner?") and then you do some shit where you fly into things and stuff. The main theme probably plays in the background. BUUUUUT YOUUUU CAN'T TRADE YOUR SEVEN RINGS IN OPEN HEART IT'LL BE WHAT I'M MADE OF. Then Sonic reflects on his journey and Chip goes away. The End.

What I'm made of isn't one of the main themes, but all I have to say is...

Wow. Surprise.

PS: Should of thrown in some I am all of me instead.

Each of these countries have two (count 'em) hub worlds, the first of which can be more or less ignored save for a few time trials and sidequests or if, for some reason, you want to talk to the citizens. The second hub world acts as the gateway to the "action stages". To get to each stage portal you must perform some rudimentary platform puzzles marred by a dreadful camera that isn't as consistent as in the werehog sections. This wouldn't be so bad, but to then enter the stage you need to have collected enough of the sun and moon medals that are scattered across the game. Meaning that, should you wish to progress in the story and find yourself lacking in collectibles, you must redo previous levels or wander around the hub worlds, poking your nose into every corner or smashing crate after crate, hoping that they contain one of these medals.

Enter Sonic 2006 part 2.

SEGA, you stupid. Fucking. Idiots.

Padding out Sonic games with bullshit has never been an effective strategy and it never will be. They shouldn't want to brag that it takes 12/18/24 hours to complete the game.

I don't know, aside from collecting medals and bad camera angles in the "hub world", it sounded pretty good to me. I'm looking forward to it.

The Wii version has less annoying traits than the others and still retains all the usual mediocrity. The motion-control elements in the Werehog levels add an extra dimension to the action, and the hub worlds are entirely text-based and aren’t nearly as annoying. If you can stand the diminished graphics, the Wii version actually edges out the PS3 and 360 entries.

Oh wow.

Hmm, Nintendo Power gave it a 8/10.

Although, they did gave Shadow a 8/10 and Secret Rings a 8.5/10 ...And Sonic 1 GBA a 6/10. Then again I heard NP had a different cast back then. But I don't know if it will be saying much :/

EDIT: @Rael: The mansion stage as Team Chaotix...FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFU-

...And Sonic 1 GBA a 6/10.

Fuck. I'd give it a straight 1.

Ugh, and really, half hour levels? WTF... And to think that we always died in the old days when the counter reached 9:59... (Sandopolis Act 2 comes to mind)

That 5/10 review appears to be more plausible.

I wonder if the game will hit half price by the week before christmas, in the UK gamestation priced sonic next at half price dispite only being out for a few weeks before christmas. it's worth giving it a go at that price.

I sold next about a week after christmas for just a little less then I paid for it at retail on ebay, so it was like a cheap rental.
