Khorney Posted July 10, 2008 Report Share Posted July 10, 2008 just took the plunge and picked up a PS3 and this. mixed views thus far, but overall pretty good. wallet's feeling a little sour but i can hush that while laying cqc smack downs. thinking i was pretty hardcore i loaded up big boss - the hardest available from the start, and set myself a strict no kill policy, a first for me with a new playthrough of an MGS, but i've been working myself up on MGS3:S so i reckon i could take it just got up to the first 'boss', if you will, and that has proved pretty humbling, i never expected to be cqc'd back. anyway, will hope to catch some of you guys on MGO once i've finished my first playthrough Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

I'm doing a no alerts/no kills playthrough now, on Hard, to test my skills and unlock shit. Eventually I'm going to attempt getting the best rank and at the very least I'll need to have a certain secret weapon the solar gun and lots of drebin points to stock on tranqs because he doesn't sell non-lethal ammo in Extreme. On my previous playthrough I tried to be somewhat stealthy but didn't mind to get caught because I'd just switch to my machineguns for some balls to the walls shooting action while running to the exit. Now I find myself learning the patrol routines and zone layouts, actively using the various gadgets and Snake's entire array of CQC techs. Sure there's a lot of restarting when that fucking gekko over there spots me in last part before the checkpoint but it's a lot of fun. MGO is region locked because Konami are a bunch of doodoo heads so I can't play against people here unless they live in Yurop. My character ID is Dobkeratops in case someone wants to add me. The only cool thing was backstory for Ocelot. It was fun, but I'd choose MGS2 as my favorite so far. Now to find someone with a PS3 to mooch off of. I get that, but there weren't massive plot twists like the other games. Just some small, expected ones. And Snake has no mommy. He is a bastard clone. Meaning you're gonna need a game copy from your region, or hope Konami stops sucking and makes their servers global. Khorney Posted July 16, 2008 Report Share Posted July 16, 2008 so finished this a couple of days ago, pretty epic. i like the new rank system they have at the end, getting different awards for specific things. my overall one was 'bear' (excessive cqc pwnage) then 'eagle' (beaucoup de headshots) then 'worm' (spent most of the game crawling. ground humper would be more appropriate) 'leopard' (died alot, but in order to get non-lethal takedowns [a rather specific award 0_o]) and there was another one too. anyway, got 3 kills overall, when i shot some guys in one of the set pieces without realising, so i could probably drop that down to 0 for my Boss Extreme runthrough. kinda pissed at the lack of unlockables though, no duel mode, no demo theatre, wtf is going on? anyway, been giving MGO a couple of playthroughs, so far quite impressed. still keeping to KO-only playing it hasn't been going too badly. also found a cheap trick where if you knock someone out, then kill them (i have to gut them with my knife as thats my only lethal weapon) you get points for both KO and the kill (although only you do, doesn't count towards team kills), so handy for getting MVP. oh and online cqc sucks ass. i figured out the judo butt rape thing, but they just get up before you're finished and shoot you. whats the point in that? SefirothDB Posted July 16, 2008 Report Share Posted July 16, 2008 Again, if you're aiming for a zero kill playthrough on Boss Extreme, make sure you've restocked on all tranquilizer weapons and grenades and shit. Drebin doesn't sell non-lethal items in Boss mode. Regarding MGO, my prefferred tactic is to find a good spot where I can hide and control the entrances then plant some porn magazines. Incoming enemies will be greeted with CQC, stuns and stabbery, plus there's always the sniper rifle for those who are too far. If you're going for buttrape moves, level up the CQC skill. The more you have the faster you can drain stamina in chokes, and when it's at master you can disarm people. Also Knife Skill at level 3 lets you slice throats when holding someone which is schweet.
