Guest Roy
You don't remember a period where 33% or more of front-page topics were locked? Slingerland might be overly rambunctious when stating his reasoning for locking topics, but all recently-locked topics I've seen were completely justified. And it's stupid to lay the blame on the moderators when every single one of those topics had a flame war in them.I'll stave off the "SFGHQ is going downhill" topic since SFGHQ has been "going downhill" for the 4 years I've been here. I wouldn't say "completely justified"; good reason though, admittedly. And I'm not blaming the mods completely, since members are the biggest issue, but if even one mod is a dick, you have a problem. Corruption in power is a huge issue.
shadowgoten
Do you think all mods are guilty of that or just a select few? I try not to harrass newbies too much, but if the majority of people think I'm part of that selection you mentioned I would relinquish my position as moderator. Rael you are definitely not even part of this whole thing, keep doing your job

The things that I have locked in the past few days have been justifiably locked. Not only is this a "SFGHQ is going downhill topic," but it is once again another "Slingerland is a big asshole who does nothing for us" topic. If you have a problem with me, how about you say it to me directly than beating around the bush with a thread that is OBVIOUSLY about me. Thanks guys, I love you too. I'm so glad that I could help. TRD
@Slinger: I never pointed fingers nor said any names, If I had a problem with you, I would tell you. My message is the lack of leniency towards the younger crowd. Those people know who they are. If I had a problem with the locked topics I would've said something, and I also don't put the blame on one person, because that would be asshattish and pretty much untrue. Slingerland
I lock things, so that there is no more flaming. Juhis' basketball topic was going nowhere and it was a big circle of "wtf." Thus, I locked it. Is there a problem with that? I fucking ask other people before I lock things as a double check (whoever is available on AIM at the time), so I'm not running rampant by myself. VectorSatyr
We seriously need to take a look at this and change things. Take the bullies out of power, appoint some people that will actually make good staff members, people who are friendly and helpful. Then SFGHQ can start being cool again. I don't think that will work, because then you'll just get the fun-loving mods who don't take their jobs seriously enough. =/ My message is the lack of leniency towards the younger crowd. Those people know who they are. But DW's not a mod... [/jk]

duckythemutant
I'm going to try to start up that subgroup. TRD pointed out that I mentioned that it's only about the old schoolers, and I admit I was wrong. It's the younger crowd that needs people looking out for them, and older members aren't giving them the patience they deserve. Thats why the positive and respected members should join together for this group and bring back the ol'days spirit, and gang up on bullying. The entire board can do this together if we try, but if not, then both groups will have to break apart from eachother so we can focus on our goal: A not-so-assholic, flexible, supportive SFG crew. Guest Roy
The fact that young members get so much shit is bothersome. Uh, Sonic the Hedgehog guys. lolz? Sorry if a young person wanders into the forum one fine day.
Slingerland
A not-so-assholic, flexible, supportive SFG crew. I'm all for said goal. I have a proposition (lol props) to help us reach this goal: How about we don't pick apart grammar unless it is completely illegible, like "Sonichead," ok? I usually have a talk with new members on AIM or PM if there is a potential problem, so you guys don't have to dog on somebody about it anymore. Probably should have told people that earlier, but "meh."
TRD
But DW's not a mod... [/jk] I don't remember ever saying it was the mods, I was referring to those who are in fact non-lenient to the younger crowd, I've seen plenty of regular members do it too. Oh, and technically, DW is a mod.

Guest Roy
Posting this for 2D because his browser is being super ghey Here's the deal, kids. This is the same problem that has plagued SFGHQ for a long, long time. Mods are mods for a reason, they lock topics and do their job the way they see fitting. However, at SFGHQ, Mods tend to die as soon as they are given the position, leaving one or two people to do all of the work (Rael, Slingerland). Unfortunately, these two mods have brought forth a "good" and "evil" mod deal, where one is good and one is bad. Rael is considered the good mod, because he doesn't really DO much in terms of locking topics and reprimanding rule breakers. No offesne Rael, I love you to death, but it's slightly true. Then you have Slingerland, the other end of the spectrum, he's the big bad evil mod. And why is that? Because he locks topics, mostly because they get out of hand because we are all big idiots who like to goof off and ruin topics. Slingerland also is the one to punish those who break rules, because he has to. He doesn't do it because he hates you and wants to ruin your SFGHQ fun, he does it because he's a mod, and that's his job. Lay off of the moderation staff, because the SFGHQ decline isn't due to just them. The decline of this community lays in each of our hands. Us older members have grown up and slightly grown out of fangaming, but we stick around because we still enjoy the atmosphere and the conversation. However, the older mentality clashes with the newer mentality of those who still enjoy fangaming, thus causing conflict in the community. Topics are spread out and unappealing to many people, and if someone tries to express their opinion on a topic that they are "not welcome in" they get ridiculed for it. I am guilty of this, we all are, so I'm not just pointing fingers at others. This basically is a "we all need to work together" situation, and learn to like each other, or else this community is doomed. This is the reason I'm working on bringing back Cloud11 as we speak, hopefully my crew of people, and our friends will be able to conversate and enjoy ourselves on our level, and bring newcomers to our level as well. Uniting people outside of SFGHQ can make things better on the inside.

Spike
Something else that needs to change here is the "You have a different opinion than me? Well fuck you!" that happens almost every time anyone says anything, and almost always turns intoa huge multi-page argument. Maybe for once we could just have a live and let live mentality. TRD
First off, I think we should stop hating each other. I've seen alot of tension between members in the past and I think people should kiss and make up (Unless you already did that, which is good.) Second, eliminate the trolls, those who start shit just for the hell of it, I can only think of one person as of now, but yeah, I believe that should be dealt with. Third, the main site needs to be updated more. >_> 4th, I was thinking about a chill out forum, not necessarily CAMP, but a place where you could pretty much talk about anything and have a decent conversation with other members, including forum games, introduction forum, stuff you want to share with others. Something like that so it won't feel like you're binded by a tight fisted rule. However, any obnoxious (like that of CAMP, IE: Porn pics, flame topics, etc.) should be immediately eliminated. I'll think of something else. EDIT: Oh and what Spike said, everyone is entitled to their opinions, and shouldn't be bashed for it. Opinions =/= Fact.
