Careful, it's loud. But yeah, this shows about half of Dragon Valley Act 1. ^^ I recorded this before I started work on the spider badnik, so you won't get to see that just yet unfortunately.

Chronic - I'd say it went very well. :D It's so much bigger and nicer here than in our old place, so we want to do everything we can to keep it.

This is incredibly impressive! Looks incredibly fun and the gimmcks and combat look really natural. Title card looks loads better as well. Can't fault it! Well done Strife!

Whoa, the feedback was a lot more positive than I imagined. ^_^ Thanks everyone! I'm glad that it's going in the right direction.

Virt - I hear you there. I'm wondering if it would help if I shrunk the player's sprite a little bit as they're moving into it... Maybe I can look at how Sonic Advance does it again.

Rawr/Seraph - Ristar is definitely an inspiration for me. ^_^ Rocket Knight was more of a coincidence, but I really like how Sash's boost ended up similar to Sparkster's. Kindof a melting pot of various Sega Genesis games, no?

I just realized that I've only been working on this for two weeks, so with that in mind, I'm pretty satisfied with the progress so far. With my hiatus starting tomorrow, it's time for me slow down and take a break before I burn myself out.

While I'm away, I'll put some more thought into the story and setting since that's something I've been struggling with for the past few days. When I've got my real life sorted out and I'm ready to get back to work, I'll hopefully have a fresh set of ideas to work with.

See you in a few weeks!

Eclipsc - Thanks! The music I used in the video is Battle on the Holy Plane from Dragon Seeds. Ideally I'd like to get an original soundtrack composed, but for now I'll carefully choose some fitting placeholders.

Xero, Blaze, Blaze - Thank you! =D

A little under a week left until I can continue working on the game, but for now, I have a little trick-or-treat for you MMF2 users. The file I've attached to this post contains an example of how I used trigonometry to make a multi-segmented enemy - specifically, the aforementioned spider badnik. I'd love to see more segmented badniks and bosses in fangames, so hopefully this helps in some way. Happy Halloween! ^_^

Alright, I'm back from my hiatus. ^_^ To kick things off:

Concept art of the main villain, Dr. Brevon. His nature contrasts sharply with the other villains, though I haven't decided how yet.

As for the game, I was in the middle of working on Act 1's boss fight when I left, so I'll pick up there and see where things go.

oh man I can't stop laughing at that edit, it looks like Eggman is opening his mouth with two big teeth haha.

The actual design though is pretty cool, but I can't help but feel he would fit better in a Megaman game rather than a Sonic game in terms of his style. Then again the fan characters kind of open up the doors to a little bit of different stuff in the first place I guess.

xD Win.

Anyway, yeah, my characters often end up with Megaman-esque gear, though I usually don't do it on purpose. I'm thinking I could tweak his body in the final design to look more organic.

On a different note, I managed to fix the Worlds engine so that I can check 'Handle background collisions out of window' without glitches. The issues were mostly tied to the camera system locking on to the Player object, so I just had it zone in on the FloatX and FloatY values instead.

Also, it just occured to me that the only extension left that's not Flash compatible is the Value Add object, which is required for handling pushable blocks and floating platforms. I'm gonna see if there's another way to achieve what ValueAdd does, just for kicks.

Coincidentally, I was browsing some of your stuff last week. Your instruments sound excellent, and the fact that you use real guitars is awesome. ^_^ I think it's a little too early in development to make a final decision on who I should collaborate with, but until then, I'll definitely keep you in consideration. So, to answer your question, not quite yet. In any case, thanks for sharing!

From what I can gather so far, I would want the soundtrack to be spunky and feminine with a pinch of mysticism, sorta like NiGHTS Into Dreams or some of the tracks from the US version of Sonic CD. Though again, it's still too early for me to figure out if that's what would be best, so I should probably wait until I have some more zones, concept art, and perhaps a web page before I decide what exactly I need.

That piano track is definitely the catchiest part, and it's not a bad concept at all.... but I'm having a hard time imagining the song being used for this stage. Since DV is the very first stage of the game in which the adventure is just beginning, I was thinking that something lighter and more triumphant would work better, with a slightly bigger variety of instruments.

I don't want to imply that it's bad - it's actually one of your best original compositions so far! It's just not quite what I'm looking for. (Though it has motivated me to work harder on getting Act 2 finished up, so I must thank you for the burst of inspiration. ^^)
