  1. I like the design you got going for her. For the animation I think the hair would bounce in the opposite direction as her body is though. Other than that, purdy kewl
  2. Looks awesome so far Highwire. That whole animation thing is a little ambitious, I wish you the best of luck but so far that sketch looks great. I feel like HUD could be a bit more apparent. Maybe make it a bit bigger or change its color to make it pop more or stylize it?
  3. Thank you very much. JAM isnt the only game that I'd like to use this mechanic in so Ill do some research on this. By chance I dont really understand what you meant by "making the music play from wave files in engine," if its not too much trouble would you care to explain a bit so I can understand what Ill be looking for when I go to do research?
  4. So Sage has come and gone and from the reviews of my game, Ive gathered that people where most displeased with the lack of the metronome in my game being synced with the BGM. Ive been trying to get this to work but Im not exactly sure how to get this down. Ive looked some places but the most i can find is a metronome tutorial. I need to make it so that it is possible for me to match the BGMs bpm with the HUDs metronome in JAM. Any help will be much appreciated, thank you. NOTE: FPS is 60 and i messed around with the alarm object that the metronome was under by making the alarm go off at around 12 steps if that information helps. NOTE: My apologies, I completely forgot to mention this is for Game Maker 8.
  5. So Act 1 is officially over I believe. I'll admit it may not have been the most optimal choice to enter my game in Sage but I am very glad I did mainly because of the feedback. I wanna thank you guys for testing out my game and helping me with some of your critiques. Like I've said a couple times, this game, concept-wise, is the most worked on piece of art I have and I have so many more stories to it than just the game you guys played. Since my programming is a tad horrible I may consider messing around with the Sonic Dash engine or something similar for proper slopes and collision detection. Again thank you everyone for testing this game out and helping me out.
  6. It may be a better idea to go with Sonic 2 sprites if anything. They are very close to Sonic 1 sprites but sonic is slightly taller and there are small changes to his his running animation. Or you can make custom sprites.
  7. I knew about the sound problem but I wasnt aware of the other ones. Thanks for the heads up. Ill be sure to tackle those problems.
  8. Thanks, Much appreciated and i'll be looking forward to your feedback.
  9. Hey guys, I figured Id follow suit with some of the other developers and make a topic here to perhaps get some feedback. I entered Jam into Sage for a couple reasons, one very important reason is to hopefully find a programmer that will help with the games engine. My collision detection is off by a lot and the only reason the game doesn't have slopes is because I lack the proper knowledge to program them smoothly, although I have attempted many times, unfortunately the results where lackluster. The demo is only a test stage to show how the game will play obviously but any feedback, good or bad, would be much appreciated and will help JAM grow as a game and myself grow as a designer. PS: Check out the JAM booth if you haven't already and feel free to leave a comment.
  10. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ITs_2jTL4Wk#t=0 It's not a screenshot but please enjoy, critique, and help me make this better.
  11. Bump. A bit of an update on this bad boy. Still chugging away at it.
  12. You should go for it. I wouldn't mind seeing your design and thank you for the compliment.
  13. Just dumping some imagery. This is from the game I'm making called JAM for those who dont know. EJ(the main character) in the test level. There are a ton of place holders still but the game is very playable in its current state.
  14. I honestly am not the best with typography but I'll definitely look into it, I was a bit unsold on it myself to be honest. Regarding the colors, I tried black and red but I don't know, I feel like the red takes away from the black a bit too much and from the actual logo as well. The white is less aggressive and kinda gives off more of a classy feel.
  15. Yeah I'm still alive and Im actually almost done with college so if anyone needs a spriter, modeler, or someone who is adobe savvy, Ill be free and more than willing to help out. This is obviously unfinished, the real logo will be made in photoshop once I get back to school so I can use the program there. It's not complete at all, I still need to add in values especially to the letters and the two black circles need to look like vinyl disks but composition-wise, would anyone mind giving me a critique? Its the title screen by the way. The letters are supposed to look like jam in name and texture hence the abstract shape and the logo is obviously inspired by sonics emblem.
  16. This is true. His gameplay style is similar to megaman or kirby but he is able to change the enviornment abit using the new blocks in the enviornment to get to secret areas... Like a mixture of kirby and sonic cd in a sence.
  17. So guys I'm in need of assistance with the level layout. This is the first level of the game and it is set in a musical city/club. I wanna try and emphasize the whole 'city/club' element of the level which is why I made the level look boxish; they symbolize the buildings. There are several paths to the level as you can see. The problem I'm having is that the level becomes very vertical at times and I'm not too sure if that would break the flow of gameplay too much. What do you guys think? EDIT: Apologies. I didn't think that the pic would stretch the screen.
  18. Nefault those trees are muthaflippin beautiful but the ground seems a bit jarring with the different colors and repetition going on, I wasn't able to distinguish the item boxes in the lower right corner for a sec. The colors don't seem to mesh too well. The character sprite also seems to stick out a bit too much but you would just need to match the different styles. overall it looks pretty cool. I like the autumn feel it seems to give off.
  19. So I signed in to first congratulate you Strife on all your accomplishments so far but also to tell you to ignore the haters. youre definitely heading in a good direction with this and I will surely be donating to this game when I have the funds...Side note: Sooo you ever plan on going back to finish up Spectrum Chase? EDIT: Forgot to ask, I've been a Sonic fan since like day one and I'd just like to know since when did it become cool to look down upon sonic and the community and call sonic fans furries and stuff?
  20. Oh? Thank you Overbound and I apologize, I did not see that at all.
  21. Hey all, Ive been looking around for the last couple weeks for an engine as well put together as the sonic worlds engine that works in Game Maker but unfortunately I didn't find much aside from the Super Ring Engine which can be found here: http://gmc.yoyogames.com/index.php?showtopic=535393. Now I would use this engine but unfortunately when I try to boot up the debug mode it crashes and I cant get in contact with the developer. Any help in finding a good engine would be much appreciated.
  22. Your animations are really smooth, but I personally like the spin better.
  23. Personally, I think they're both pretty snazzy but I like the second design slightly better. Hey strife, how many shades do you tend to use when using a color for all your work in general?
  24. Looks great strife. I like how the health bar and petals look in motion. Would you be able to use this in your portfolio? I mean seeing as this is someone elses character...
  25. If blazefire or tailsena dont have any luck with it then ill see what I can do for you.
