DimensionWarped
No dude, they need to tear the plot up from the roots. Not do a prequel. If they do a prequel, the story will continue to take itself too seriously in its stupidity.
1LT Worm
I have the perfect plot! Dr. Robotnik builds a new machine that will blow up the world. But he needs those Chaos emeralds. So he captures animals and places them in robots. Then he taunts Sonic or something, and Sonic goes running in some place that has a beach, a town, a casino, ruins, a icy mountain, and a desert. I'd play it.

Aaron C-T
DW: Too bad I never said a prequel. I said "start over" as in a reboot, only using Sonic 3/Sonic and Knuckles to build the story. Basically making the Death Egg Robotnik's first "plan" if you will, and ignoring everything else as if no other game had been created. They seem to like Sonic having a rival, which is why I suggest those games.
DimensionWarped
for the plot anyway, to start over. Before Sonic the Hedgehog became the "Blue Blur." Before Sonic became the "blue blur" entails prequel/retcon
Aaron C-T
Just because he's not yet famous doesn't mean it's a prequel. I want this to be a reboot, and to be his first adventure. I believe it's possible to have a reboot that simply neglects everything after a certain point. I don't want that I want this to erase everything. Sonic's never been in a world with humans that didn't know who he was (the first human world was in SA). I don't want any of the humans to go "Oh look, Mommy, it's Sonic!" He'd have no reputation at that point, and wouldn't have earned any blue blur-esque title.
DimensionWarped
They'd have to do something wildly different in order to make it not seem like a prequel.
MidimanNull
do what sonic 3 did. Take the ending of the previous game, and plop the aftermath as the intro.
Serephim
Sonic's storylines will fail over and over again until Sonic Team realizes that sonic + extremely dark theme = does NOT fit. Link and Cel-Shading could do it. Mario and spikey turtles can do it even. A Blue Hedgehog , a Red Echidina, and a Bigeyed 2 Tailed fox can not. Sonic Rush was a great game to me. Although it lacked in the "oldschool" department, it was a great "current" gen sonic game. It was FUN, it was SIMPLE, the music was awsome, there were only TWO CHARACTERS (thank god, who wants to play the same game over again 6 times), and the storyline, even though it featured the "end of the world", was extremely simple, and for ONCE involved Sonic + Friends vs. Robotnick. Seriously, i dont really care for Old-School sonic type games anymore. Its obvious Sonic Team wont give it to us. Just like most of the good companies these days (Disney, for instance), they've seem to have simply lost their touch/integrity/motive/will to have their work excel regardless of the sales. At this point, the screenshots of the game will sell it regardless. I could look at Sonic the Hedgehog gameplay and already tell it would have the I-beat-it-now-it-sucks type effect. In my opionion, they need to : a) Cel Shade sonic. Dont ask me why, it would just really be cool. Not only would this give the stages an AWESOME look, it would simply help in bringing us back to that Old-School look. Cut 80% of the characters. Everyone that joined after Sonic Adventure needs to go away. (Rouge is pretty cool, so she can stay. But Big, Cream, and Shadow need to go. Shadow's image has been perminately ruined. Even returning his awesome orginal voice wont save his horrible new running animations and personality changes.)
Aaron C-T
Seph: Lawl? I want to play the same game multiple times. Especially when it's Sonic 2, 3, or Sonic and Knuckles. I don't see how cell-shading Sonic would give him an oldschool look. It'd give him a comic-esque look. Not old school. And I'd rather that if they keep Sonic in a "real" world, and tout it as such, that they use more realistic gfx. That, and they're actually getting really good at CG so.. yea. I want that to stay. Also, I still fail to see how you all keep saying Sonic will sell well regardless. Sonic Next is essentially only on one platform at the moment: X360. There aren't really that many PS3s, and I doubt many of their owners all too interested in Sonic Next because a ton of them are too busy trying to cash in on eBay rather than actually play games at the moment. The games has mainly horrible reviews which will also turn away people who aren't die-hard fans of Sonic. Combine that with the fact that tons of the Sonic fans that have played through the Genesis area and hate the current state of the games are, for the most part, fed up and that leaves die-hard fans and all the kiddies who will buy the games no matter what. X360 is in no way the Nintendo Gamecube where it's the "kiddy console" and every Sonic game is destined to become a Player's Choice even if the game literally was crap. Brown stuff, even. I don't see how you all are so quick to believe that this game will sell just as well as last generation. Most people who buy X360s buy it for games like Gears of War or Halo. Not for games like Sonic the Hedgehog that get scores as low as 4. Unless there's something I'm missing here.

Aaron C-T
Ila: "The PS3/X360 controllers have 4 shoulder buttons, 4 face buttons, a D-Pad and two analog sticks which can be pressed down for an addition two buttons. I'm sure they can figure something out." - Scatta (lawl, me) Aero: Sonic X-treme looked like a better translation of Sonic in a 3D world though. In terms of it actually looking like a decent platformer and containing both rolling and sidescrolling. I was under the impression that the reasons for Sonic X-treme's failure was due to the fact that the team couldn't get their shix together and Naka wouldn't let them abuse his engine.
