Nitemare
http://s237.photobucket.com/albums/ff205/josephwaters/360/?action=view¤t=MagmaHollow.flv Got a delicious video of magma hollow so far, as you can see by the end of the video its not all finished yet. Thought i'd post a quick update on how things are going and such now that i've got all the basic zone designs. Zone 1 - Casino Bay: Zone 2 - Aqua Shrine: Zone 3 - Rainbow Runway: Zone 4 - Magma Hollow: Zone 5 - Polar Fields: Zone 6 - Iron Wing: ...and Zone 7 is a secret for now. Still not finished with the Polar Fields or Iron Wing backgrounds so any comments or ideas and such are welcome.
Daniel
The video was pretty nice... That's all I have to say, I'm not good with constructive criticism nor ideas. *shrugs*
Blue Emerald
Now these are cool ideas. Polar Fields looks good as is, but if you want, you could make some of the crystals turquoise in color to add more variety amidst the light blues and purples. As for Iron Wing, maybe you could make some burning smokestacks to give it more action. Otherwise, I really like this overall. Nice job.
Rael0505
Man this is awesome, like I said on AIM I love how that lava stage is turning out. I'd say this is one of the most graphically pleasing fangames out there, and that's saying something considering how I normally dislike the advance style. Like I told you a while ago, you should make the background in Iron Wing flash like there's lightning. Maybe you could make it indoor and outdoor too - outdoor parts being rainy. The level needs to be stormy!
Aaron C-T
What Rael said about Iron Wing needing to be rainy with lightning and such. I also agree with Blue Emerald's suggestion of using turquoise (or some other color) to vary up Polar Fields. Gameplay looks fun.
DimensionWarped
It's very pretty. Some of the animations need some touch up though. Running on the MZ screw gimmick for instance.
Zenor
It's very pretty. Some of the animations need some touch up though. Running on the MZ screw gimmick for instance. And the screw rotates to the wrong direction too. - This is getting really awesome. But Polar Field's background seems too bright to be honest; Anyway.. Do those spider badniks only suicide? Just wondering.
Ollie
Like Zenor said, the only thing that I noticed that could do with a bit of a change is how bright the Polar Field background is. It's way too bright so it's hard to see the different bits of the background such as the Mountain against the sky, you could also change the colour of one of the Diamonds since it blends in with the background colour. Other than that, every screenshot looks very busy, cool!
Steven M
Are you using a preset palette for the graphics? It seems like there are a few gradients in the screenshots (for example the lake and sky in Casino Bay Zone) which give the backgrounds a fairly plain feel. Personally I think, like Blue Emerald is doing with his fangame, you should give more consideration into dithered/pixelart backgrounds - though it could just be me being pedantic concerning graphics. As far as level design goes, I'm afraid I have little to say (not an expert on platform engines) - just that Sonic's run in the test level seems to come in fits and bursts, as though there's no clear or interrupted path through the design of the level. Or again, maybe that's just my personal taste - the same obstacles come to mind in zones like Chemical Plant.
FanGameRevolver
I think the level design looked awsome!! it had many routes to explore, which I find more entertaining then, "here's where you go" linear type levels. I want a sense of exploration like this, rather than a sense of direction. Good job thus far!!!
LarkSS
The video could have easily fooled me into believing it was from an official Sonic Advance game. Very awesome Nightmare. Also regarding Iron Wing, I'm not sure if I agree with the need for weather. The eerie chill of night alone within a metallic setting seems fitting to me. If you do decide to add rain and lightning, be sure it'll be accomplishing the mood that you desire from that level.
Felik
Graphics are great! Levels look original and very beautiful. But leveldesign looks empty. You should add more gimmicks, loops, rings etc. YOu should also do something with those spider badniks. Their behaviour is too simple.
Streak Thunderstorm
One question. In the lava place, how do you have active objects in the parallax?
Nitemare
Cheers for the comments everyone, will take everything said into consideration. Fixed up the screw gimmick, it's amazing how often I don't notice I have things the wrong way round. I dunno if anyone remembers that old Hydrocity demo but I played that recently and found I had the parallax all backwards. ;P Gonna do a major rework of Polar Fields as soon as I can also. And the spiders do suicide for now, however it's for a good reason! It's temporary until I can be bothered to add a little chase movement once they land on the ground, perhaps with a timed detonation and the ability to leap and grab hold of Sonic. Steven M: I'm quite happy with the colouring on the Casino Bay background, I do know what you mean though and plan on changing Rainbow Runway. Streak: Theres no active objects there, the lava is made to fall via a looping Y movement instead of an animation.
Asuma
You're awesome level art inspires me to recreate Endless Mines for Sonic 3/K and Sonic Advance. I just love that lava stage. The golden color of the platforms mixed with the rocks makes the level freakin' awesome. I also notice you made use of Dami's tile deformer program. Pretty niffy. Sir Euan
I love the the advanced-ised genesis elements of this, looks really good. The levels are pretty unique too, it's magical =)

True Blue
Love the graphics. Nicely done. I haven't seen games with Advance sprites for some time now (except for Streak's game).
Ironrind
This looks very fun to play. The level design and attention to detail look very high quality. Can't wait to give it a try^_^
