Blue Frenzy
oh, no, you dont have to to that. you can always make them bigger and just expand them by cutting the parts (edges and corners), pasting them on a bigger canvas and then filling gaps. rogueyoshi
hmm, something about the glass doesnt seem 'sonic-like'. everything else is coming along fine though
Mobiethian
I took a screenshot of Labyrinth Zone and I found that most of the blocks actually are 32x32 as well. Should I keep the new blocks like that too?
Mobiethian
I made some more adjustments and while doing so I also put together this screenshot:
Serephim
Looks pretty neat. I do say though, if the image out the window in the background was of more detail, it would enhance the entire shot.
Aerosol
Yea, I'm liking that!
Serephim
In reality, thats really fine the way it is. Its a really neat concept, and nobody will care if it doesnt look 100% official. Its the fact that its custom that makes the difference to me
Mobiethian
I'm glad the ground tiles, etc. is agreed apon, thanks for the feedback. Onto the background. I think it needs more work. I'll be detailing the window as well. So what else do you think needs improvement?
Blue Frenzy
The light blue-purple colours doesnt fit.
DimensionWarped
I'll be honest with you, I think it looks rather ugly. It needs more contrasting colors, and I'm not just talking about background elements. It's just too monotonous in the first layer of background. Serephim
I dont think anything is wrong with it. Its a fucking fangame, and hes done far better than the average would in his situation.
Mobiethian
The background needs work but not too much. I think it looks good too and may need some minor color changes. What do you recommend Serephim?
Spike
I dont think anything is wrong with it.Its a fucking fangame, and hes done far better than the average would in his situation. Oh, stop with that damn "It's good ENOUGH" attitude. It needs improvement in some aspects. So what? He's trying to make it the best he can. Let him. Serephim
Although if he keeps listening to you people, he is never going to finish the FANGAME. God. This is half the reason im glad the Screenshot topic is gone. If he wants to keep improving, and i guess its warranted in this specific topic, but jesus you people need to chill on the graphical requests. Mobiethian
I was having trouble coming up with the right colors for this background. I edited it some more. I may just redo the whole thing if it doesn't look right (usually better next time anyway). I need some feedback here. Below is my original sketch... The most recent background edit... The most recent ground tiles...
Mobiethian
I'm still hard at work on this zone. I'm changing the background to match Sonic CD-ish designs/sprites. I'll post more as it comes. Any other recommendations?
Blue Frenzy
Well, actually, ground is pretty nice and you can start working on the level with that. I'd reccomend you to continue now the game and finish the levels. Make new areas and keep prectising. That will help you on learning techniques to make your custom backgrounds. When you finish the game, you should have learned a lot and you can review your first backgrounds in order to improve. You just need more experience, and you'll get it doing backgrounds. Staying forever on the same won't help too much.
Mobiethian
Sweet. I'll start on Hexagon Hill Zone while I finish THZ.
Mobiethian
I finished a map of this level (ACT 1) and I did some tweaking of the graphics. It looks nice. Just wanted to update so nobody thinks I abandoned this zone. I want to see it come to life. I've been using CNC to create the map, does anyone recommend anything better? Sockman
You can always start by building your levels with ripped tiles from the other Sonic games and replacing it with your own art before you release the final game.
Mobiethian
You can always start by building your levels with ripped tiles from the other Sonic games and replacing it with your own art before you release the final game. That's exactly what I am thinking too, but I need some help. Fellow hackers, I need your talent! Below is a "hoax" that I created to show what I would like Tetra Hydro Zone to look like: I'm not a hacker or anything. Who wants to take this on? ECLIPSc70
That is a hot level. I have a question, is this going to be 1 level or a whole game?
Mobiethian
Actually, I was hoping to see it in one of those sweeeet classic based projects going on out there. There's a lot of really good projects out there. Sonic XG and Sonic Nexus is an example. Or do you think a whole new project should be started with this zone in it? (Probably a 4th level)
