So here's what I was thinking,there's a bar in the bottom left corner that fills up as you defeat enemies. Depending on the level of charge 3 things can happen. With very little charge Spark shoots a slightly bigger blast with, with a half full bar Spark shoots a blast that goes through multiple enemies, and finally at full charge (this is ideal for bosses) Spark points up to the sky and 5 lighting bolts rain down.
