This community is really considerate!

Eminence

Recommended Posts

This is the third year in a row that you guys have forgotten to make me a birthday thread. And after creating a ruckus year-in an year-out, I am now at a loss.

2010: http://www.sonicfangameshq.com/forum/showthread.php?t=6797

2009: http://www.sonicfangameshq.com/forum/showthread.php?t=6045

EDIT 1:

There were 752 new threads from November 2009 to November 2010.

There were 610 new threads from November 2010 to November 2011.

And you guys wonder WHY this community is dying? This is a sinking ship. When's the last time someone completed an ENTIRE fan-game? One Girl Amy (Army)?

You all complain how SFGHQ is riding into the sunset but then do nothing about it. I am passionate about what this community does but in this current incarnation WE ARE bleeding.

This is a pathetic shell of what used to be a creative and kind empire. At this rate I'd like to see Smidge step-in and take Old Yeller out behind the woodshed. This isn't a young-vibrant community ready to explode anymore

We've become a group of people who've held on too long.

Happy 'fucking' Birthday.

EDIT 2:

Why the fuck did Kirs get a birthday thread? Is he some type of messiah I am unaware of?

Jesus, this message reeks of anger and bitterness more than anything.

Anyway, the reason we don't finish fangames often is because we strive for quality. We could easily make short fangames in a week or so, but let's be honest, they'd be terrible. If you look at the demos for fangames currently in development, and compare them to the older stuff, you will see that they don't hold up. I'd rather see one or two good games a year than 30 terrible ones.

To my dear Eminence,

Fuck you. Nobody likes you in here. We don't make you any birthday threads because we all want you to drop dead so hard that sometimes we actually believe that you are (Which I can see now that unfortunelly you're not).

But yeah, "happy birthday". Go choke on some cake or hang your ballsack in some ballons, I dunno... Just die.

With lesbian,

P3DR0.

Just kidding, happy birthday sunshine of the corner of my eyes <3

I can't tell if this is an attempt at trolling or actually a serious topic. I'm going to give you the benefit of the doubt and assume you're being serious. That being the case, maybe you should consider that people don't log onto SFGHQ every day and say "Hmm, who's birthday is it today?" I'm sorry, this is the Internet, you can't expect people to remember things that sometimes even real life friends wouldn't remember. I have friends that if I didn't say anything they wouldn't even realize it was my birthday. I'd never expect an online community to recognize my birthday.

And to address the meat of your topic (which wasn't even your birthday, to boot), people have things called real life! Look at my signature. Do you remember that game? I was once more passionate about it than anything else, but over the years other things come up. Game development is nothing to scoff at. It takes a lot of time, energy, and dedication. For something that one does a hobby it's extremely demanding, so much so that most of us cannot possibly complete our games at the quality that we'd like them to be at. This was certainly the case for me, and I'm sure is the case for many others.

Either way, happy birthday. For your birthday, I shall give you a chill pill. Go relax.

WE ARE bleeding.

Right out your vagina. Happy Birthday. Your birthday present is me not putting on in the miserable users group. Also a fancy new title and thread icon.

EDIT: By the by, I honestly think roughly 2 new threads per day isn't half bad considering that there's really not all that much to talk about in the first place. I mean, 1 or 2 new Sonic games a year? A handful of birthday threads about the people who garner a lot of attention (and the people who complain about not receivng that attention? Maybe 30-60 fangames a year? Not that bad. Now, if you want to say... oh, I don't know, make some friends or maybe do some recruiting for the scene, that'd be cool. But in general I'm pretty optimistic. Every community waxes and wanes over the years, and we are just in a bit of a slump. I think things will get a lot better over the next few years. It's mostly Sonic's fault for being so damned boring most of the time.

Oh, it's eminence again...

Kris getting more LOVE than you is the funniest thing ive read on these forums in a while

Happy birthday, how old are youuuuuuuu

And this place sucks now because apparently all the fangamers believe that original BGs, unique storylines and true-to-form genesis shit makes them somehow look like rockstars, when in reality 90% of their games are boring anyway and will never get finished no matter how many gimmicks they can say they've incorporated or how hard they study the "classic" sonic titles. Fangaming has become more of a visual popularity contest than actual fangaming, which i think is supposed to be a lighthearted form of expression more than anything. Like writing a shitty fanfic or drawing a picture

oops sorry just kidding i like most of you guys stuff tho

So you'd be happier if fan games were more like fan fiction... alriiiiiiiiiiiighty then.

I think I'll just stick to making cute robots and other assorted gizmos.

No. I'd be happer if everyone would stop magically expecting everyone to be developing their fangame as if they were some AAA paid game designing team. I'd still buy Sonic 4 over even the best fangames to come out of this place....well, the ones that actually come out anyway.

Fangames are basically glorified Fanfics anyway. They just have loops and badnicks instead of unnecessary drama and the characters having sex with one another.

Don't get me wrong, i respect the high esteem and expectations people hold for their stuff. But honestly, It's getting to a point where it isn't getting anyone anywhere.

That's um... a pretty glaring difference. Personally, I don't expect everyone to develop a fangame as if it were being done on a professional level by a team of individuals back in the early 90's. As an individual though, I want to make things that are polished and loaded with personal touches rather than churning out something crappy and forgettable or worse, redundant.

Dude thanks! No one on here has told me happy birthday for a few years. It's fine though, because I'm not a bitch.

I'm like four hundred months late on saying it to you (which is a crime in pretty much every province so don't tell the police), but you are welcome :D.

It was my birthday on the 19th as well. Did I get a birthday thread? No. Do I care? No. I don't need random strangers on the internet to give my life some sort of validity. Besides, I was in fucking Tokyo with Svend from The Sonic Stadium.

Also, I like this community and following the projects that people develop. Full games hardly ever happened in the 'hey-day' of SFGHQ, so why is this an issue all of sudden?

You have to remember one glaringly obvious thing about this community; most games are being developed by ONE PERSON. That one person also has a life to live. They have to develop that game alone whilst they're in full time education or a job or whatever they fuck they do in the real world. If they ever release their game they get maybe a week of attention to their game and then it's forgotten only to be enjoyed by a select few enthusiasts. No wonder people hardly ever complete their games. It's a lot of hard work for hardly any praise.

Besides, if it bothers you so much why don't you man the fuck up and develop your own game and prove everyone wrong?
