cyborg_ar
this is a repost of a repost So Dean Sitton's time capsule #2 was sold, and it turned out Nemesis from Sonic Retro bought it. One of the things in it was the Sonic Bible - some docs Sega of America used as a base for the marketing of Sonic 1 (completely disregarding the Japanese story). Whatever, relaying post:I don't have a lot of time, so I'll keep this brief. Dean Sitton (posting as DeanSatan), a former employee of SOA, and the guy who came up with the name "Ivo Robotnik", popped onto this forum awhile back. See this thread for details.Dean had a variety of documents from his time at Sega, a number of them related to Sonic, including several versions of something called the "Sonic Bible". I bought them. They arrived today. I've started scanning them. The Sonic Bible was an internal document created by SOA to provide a localised history and overall philosophy for Sonic and the Sonic universe. It is apparently not based on the Japanese history. According to Dean: "the bible was developed at soa in-tune with getting the game from soj - there was little to no exposure to the original japanese fiction at that time". Enough blabbing from me. Here are the documents I've scanned in so far, in PDF form: http://nemesis.hacking-cult.org/MegaDrive/Documentation/Sonic/SonicBible.pdf http://nemesis.hacking-cult.org/MegaDrive/Documentation/Sonic/SonicBibleDraft1.pdf http://nemesis.hacking-cult.org/MegaDrive/Documentation/Sonic/SonicBibleDraft2.pdf And here are the source images: http://nemesis.hacking-cult.org/MegaDrive/Documentation/Sonic/SonicBible.zip http://nemesis.hacking-cult.org/MegaDrive/Documentation/Sonic/SonicBibleDraft1.zip http://nemesis.hacking-cult.org/MegaDrive/Documentation/Sonic/SonicBibleDraft2.zip I'm not sure about the correct names for these documents. Best as I can tell, I've listed them in order from oldest to newest. Some of the documents are missing some sections. What you're looking at is what I've got. More cool stuff coming soon. I had to take a break at this: He and his mother and his five sisters Wait, what, since when does Sonic have five sisters? o_O OH SWEET BUTTERY JESUS, this is the worst piece of horseshit i have read in my entire life, be warned, if you have read fanfics in the past it doesn't guarantee that you can survive this with your mind intact, this is worse, this is DAMN MUCH worse... Ollie
I haven't read it, but from what I've heard it's got little bits on info that really aren't worth noting, but it just shows how in depth the character of Sonic actually was/is/was. Rael0505
You won't understand it until you've read it, ojdon. Rael0505: "My word!" exclaimed Kintobor, who struggled to comprehend what had just happened. "I think you've gone blue from the Advanced Non-Concussive Cobalt Effect!" cyborg4r: *facefloor* Rael0505: "You're so fast, we should call you Sonic. SuperSonic, even. How do you like that!" he cried, dancing around the lab like a demented pixie. cyborg4r: ugh cyborg4r: *smashes head against wall* Rael0505: this is amazing cyborg4r: is like a fountain of cheese that never ends Rael0505: yes Rael0505: it's EXACTLY like that
Blue Emerald
Read the first entry. It says Robotnik made the Chaos Emeralds (???); that's an odd idea. However, it also says that each one represents the evils of mankind, and this connection could be made to Sonic Adventure, in which the different colors of the emeralds represented the negative energy each one held. What an interesting read; sounds like something that should be in the Archie comics.
Sockman
I must say I'm quite disappointed. I entered this thread expecting some blasphemous Biblical hijinks with a Sonic theme, and instead I get this dribble? LETDOWN

Cyber Rat
They used this plot device in the Fleetway Sonic comics... or was it Archie? One of those... They used a good part of it in the Archie promo comic for the Sonic the Hedgehog game. Check the link I posted in this thread.

Sockman
7 emeralds, 7 deadly sins. So since Sonic uses the emeralds to become Super Sonic, doesn't that send the message that evil makes you powerful? Kind of a fucked up message for the kiddies, I think. Of course, Sonic Adventure told us that there were also positive energies in the Emeralds, which was how Sonic was able to transform into Super Sonic. Sockman
Then again, the Seven Chaos Plot Devices have always had wildly different roles and abilities from game to game, since the story of your average post-Adventure Sonic game was written by a team of cross-faded lemurs. Didn't those things bring Sonic back from the dead in Sonic 06?

Spike
I thought that was a kiss from that Final Fantasy reject chick? Well, it was the emeralds, but that triggered the emeralds or something like that.
DJ espeed
So, Sonic was like a typical high school student (80's-esque to be specific), and was brown before he turned blue... At least I found out where they ORIGINALLY came up with Ovi Kintobor.
Spike
Some of the stuff in this bible makes sense (Just got around to reading it), like how he likes fast cars, red ones to be exact, and then he had one in Sonic Drift. Either stuff like that is a big coincidence, or they actually went off of this bible for a while. Plus, it talks about the seventh emerald before there was one. Cyber Rat
Plus, it talks about the seventh emerald before there was one. Yeah, that's something that surprised me too. Although I don't get how 6 emeralds managed to 'save' Mobius in Sonic 1 if they were all evil. (I assume they went with the variant in which the gray one stabilizes the 6 evil ones, considering the promo Archie comic.)
