Ayling
I see what you mean. I think I'll make the ground toles in the ligthest color, and use mmf to darken it (Select/opacity to 75ish). Iand I'll do the shadou. I still want that type of dirt, not tiles sticking out. Rael0505
Lark: Try telling that to gamenerd. I did. He doesn't listen. I still want that type of dirt, not tiles sticking out. Something needs to be done then to make it seem less flat. Nothing comes to my mind now though. =\
Ayling
I'll add shading to the triangles. Will that help?
Rael0505
Well, it wouldn't hurt, but it would still look flat. Maybe if you made the lighter colored parts stick out it would look better? Another thing I noticed is your colors are too similar. Shades of colors need to contrast dynamically if you want it to be noticeable. Zooming into your background I see that you used a few darker shades on the triangles but they're not noticeable at all zoomed out.
Ayling
Oh. Looking at it, I only used shades that were close. More contrast would be better, then. Thanks! I'll see what I can do.
Damizean
Well, I've revised your tileset. Basically, I've added better shades and contrasts for the grass, added more shades to the rocks and dithered them so it looked more rocky, and made some tiles off it. I've ended up making a quick mockup for you to see how it would look in game. Anyway, the scheme is too rocky for a first level zone, but I'm sure for a mountain one it would look awesome.
Ayling
I actually intend for it to be a zone 1. I envisioned a more jungle-y zone to be honest, but I can go from there. Thanks so much. +rep
Rael0505
Oh my god dami. That's amazing. My only complaint would be it looks too photoshopped. If it weren't whitish at the edges it would be better I think.
Blue Frenzy
Same as rael said. The excessive colour mode and the white blending light makes it a little out of place but actually it is pretty awesome.
Ayling
I can darken it in mmf, so I don't care.
TRD
That was a really cool thing to do, Dami. Repped.
Spike
I think it looks perfect. Awesome, Dami, Awesome. Super-rep.
Ayling
I came up with a jungle-y tile, and want to know if it's good enough to finish- I might use dami's sprites later on, though. You should submit them to the site.
Rael0505
Follows too much of a pattern, and it's rounded and weird. Looks like a Mario graphic piece, not a Sonic one. Study Sonic backgrounds better to get an idea of what style is used for grass.
Ayling
I troed to base it on SRA's grass, though.
Rael0505
Yeah, but Sonic Rush Adventure is among the ugliest Sonic games yet. If you're going for the genesis style, I don't think it would match anyhow.
Ayling
Looks like I need help. I want long droopy grass, not short, like damizean's...
Rael0505
Droopy? What about Angel Island? or this:
Ayling
That grass from sir euan's game looks good, actually. I don't know if I could get the tile. I guess I'll pm him. Edit- what's the level name?

Ayling
Is it really? Wow, I'm oblivious... I might use skylight's angel island grass instead. Just found it on the mfz.
Zenor
Ayling, i forgot i did 3 months ago a tutorial about how to do a grass tile for a friend. here. it's not the best about how to do one. I recently added some new things to it, just to complete it a bit more. I suck at explaining things >_< EDIT: about the variety thing, you do that just if you want.
TRD
Ooh, this might come in handy. Rep up, Zenor, and rep up to Rael for his continuous coaching.
Rael0505
I never said euan's grass was angel island. I was giving you an example. Euan's grass is 100% original (or so he told me), and it's not free for anyone's use. Just want to clear that up. Edit: And I love that tutorial, zenor.
