Ayling
I'd like to add mp3's to my game, but I don't want it to take up huge amounts of room. Is it possible to make them into wav files so they take up less space? Thanks in advance!
ClassicSonicRules
Um, I would think that the .wavs would be bigger, but I would recommend a media player like Winamp to convert them. All you have to do is use the DiskWriter plugin, and it will convert most any type of file to .wav. There are also plugins that will convert to .mp3, .ogg, etc.
Ayling
Thanks. The only way I know of to play mp3's in mmf2 is, I want to say, the amv extension. Rep up.
hRook
Wavs are ridiculously less compressed than mp3s. Use MCI object, DMC2, DirectShow, or any of the other billions of extensions you can use to play mp3s. Better yet, going .ogg would probably be the best choice since .ogg doesn't add the split-second of silence that's required in an mp3.
TRD
Wav's are RIDICULOUSLY huge. They're only good for Sound FX and whatnot. I'm using Oggs that I converted from Mp3 format, and I'm using the direct Show extension for MMF2.
LarkSS
I don't even USE wav anymore due to the filesize. If a wav is converted to ogg right, it can be used for sound effects as well as music. @Sage: I tried ogg for that purpose once and though the silence dissapeared, it cut out about half a second at the beginning on playback. ( in mmf2 )
Rael0505
WinLAME can convert wav, mp3, and ogg to one another. Google for it. Don't use wav files. They're humongous. Ogg would be my recommendation, although I don't have that much experience in this area.
Ayling
Umm, Okay. My question would now be, Do I need to put the mp3's/ogg's in a folder with the file? And is there a program to seperate them, so they loop correctly (ex. splitting green hill so it loops right)? I'm using mmf2, by the way.
Amesuki
Well this is just for TGF users, that HAVE to use wav: On Sound recorder, save another version of it, however at, 22050KHz 8bit Mono. Ok you don't have the stereo option, and its a little more muffled, but it reduces the sound to small amounts. However...only use this if you got TGF and a TGF that cocks up most extentions. -=-Amesuki-=-
Sir Euan
With MMF2 you can use .ogg just like you would use .wav for music. Convert your files to .ogg using winlame like rael said, google winlame! Do it now!
