FORUM RULES AND GUIDELINES for SFGHQ - PLEASE READ (last edit 6/23/09)

Recommended Posts

Seeing as people have been questioning a few rules (or just not obeying them because they aren't posted anywhere). ila and I thought that a rules post was in order...so here they are. Some are adapted from the Proboards.

SFGHQ Message Board Rules

Behavior:

Basic manners apply. You don't have to uber-nice to everyone, but at least try to be pleasent. There is usually no reason to start flaming (insulting) someone EVER. Save it for AIM or something, and let's just try to keep this place nice and neat.

Goodbye/Leaving Threads:

Sometimes crap happens and you may need to leave the forum. However...please, as elitist as this may sound, unless you seriously believe that your leave is going to have a major impact for the community, refrain from making a thread, and instead put a message in your signature or something. Tell a close "friend" of the forum that you're leaving, so s/he can inform others if they have an inquiry into your absence. Everyone posting leaving topics gets annoying after awhile.

Warning Points:

Moderators reserve the right to issue warning points to anyone who they believe has caused an unnecessary disruption or who has violated any of these rules. If you get a warning point, don't bug the moderators and yell at them, it will get you no where. If you have a question about why you were issued a warning point, please pleasantly PM a moderator and they can find out for you. Giving the moderators a hard time will only get you into worse trouble.

Spam/Useless Threads and Posts:

It's okay to have fun, but please, don't overdo it on the Spam (useless threads) as they can get annoying eventually. If a moderator believes a thread is spam, they can lock or delete the thread at their discretion. Making sure that your thread has enough content or discussion value is a perfect way to prevent your thread from being trashed. "I like this music, do you?" is an example of a terrible thread.

For the same reason, try to include actual content in most of your posts. While simply posting "this fangame looks cool, I want to see more" sometimes is okay, it is NOT okay if all of your posts are like that. If you don't ever have anything interesting to say, why even post at all?

Roms/Warez:

Any discussion of the locations of where to find rom downloads or warez downloads/serial numbers are forbidden. Period. You can discuss them, but cannot ask where they are nor post them. However Freeware roms ARE allowed. Warning points/ban (temp or permanent) will be issued accordingly and at the staff's discretion.

Locked Threads:

In general, most locked threads will be deleted after a certain time frame. This is to keep the forums tidy looking and not clogged with a bunch of locked threads.

Moderation Actions:

The forum staff is only human and uses its best judgment when performing any sort of moderation actions. They can make mistakes. Please PM a staff member if you feel that an injustice has been done by any staff member.

Post Decency:

To help keep flaming at a minimum it's important to retain a certain amount of decency in your posts. By this, avoid swearing whenever possible. Normally swearing only makes you look like a bad mouth and in some instances just plain rude. Any hatespeak, including the use of "gay"/"homo" slang will result in a warning/level, instantly. Any racial slurs, especially a certain N word will result in an instant ban. Otherwise the swear filter might be removed if everyone can show the maturity for it.

Also, refrain from posting in old threads (more than a couple weeks old) unless you really have something important to add. Bumping your own topic for an update on information is perfectly acceptable, however.

Porn/Erotica/Hentai:

Big "no". Period. No questions asked, post it and it's gone. Only exception MAY be the art forum, if you have some artistic meaning for it. (Think a certain scene from James Cameron's Titanic.)

Hacking/Phishing/Unauthorized use of another account:

All of said offences are against the rules, okay? Generally most people don't need to be told that, but apparently we have those people who like to nit pick word for word.

Thievery

This is blatantly obvious, but some people are miss this point as well. Don't claim anothers work as your own. this goes for fangames, art, music, whatever. Just don't.

English

Okay since it has been a problem lately it is time to make this clear: this is an English speaking forum. As such you should be expected to know English, if you do not have a proper grasp of the English language then this place is not for you. Sorry, don't mean to discriminate based on this, but it has been a problem lately with a member making 20 odd something posts that nobody can understand, followed by said member making 20 more posts asking why no one can understand said person.

Grammar

Expanding on the English rule, users are also expected to write in acceptable English. Use abbreviations as sparingly as possible; "u" is not an acceptable substitute for "you." Always use proper punctuation and capitalization. A few grammatical mistakes here and there are fine, but you'll come off as a moron if you type like you're in a chatroom all the time. People call this place a "message board" for a reason.

Multiple User Accounts

To prevent multiple identities, only one account is permitted per user. If we find two accounts under the same IP address, the extra account will be banned. If someone else in your house, such as a sibling, wants to join our forum, you or he MUST notify an admin, or we will ban it thinking the two accounts belong to the same person. If we have made a ban in error, please let one of us know through a private message and we will correct it.

Do NOT register a new account if you decide you don't like your user name anymore. If you want your user name changed, send a private message to an admin and we will grant your request.

Avatars and Signatures

Its generally unspoken, but any avatar that stretches the tables is usually considered too large. Try to keep your avatars no larger than 150 by 200 pixels. Vertical height isn't too big an issue as long as it isn't bloody insane.

As for Signatures, if you want to have a banner image, try to keep it to just one. Keep file size down to under 1mb. I don't care how funny that .gif of some cat is, keep it under a meg.

Reporting Posts

Honestly guys, despite having the report post feature here, its actually very tiresome. I know lately we've been dealing with spam bots and shit, but its just easier if you contact one of the active mods so we can deal with the problem immediately, rather than waiting for one of us to check our e-mail. I know I do it maybe once a week, unless I have a feeling Atlus is going to release something. Anyway I digress, its better if you just IM one of us. Our screennames are available in the rules topic BTW. We all keep pretty wacky schedules anyway, so you'll probably find one of us active at some point.

Also, if you do report a post, try not to report a post that is flaming you, okay? I'm sure if its bad enough, someone else will get to it. Otherwise its probably not as bad as you're making it. K?

Ban Policy

If you feel your ban was unjust or if you'd like to make an arrangement to somehow get unbanned, you are always welcome to message an admin on AIM. As admins, we are always willing to do our best to try to work things out with anyone with the courage and maturity to approach us and have a civil, one on one chat. We respect those who are willing to sit down and talk with us in a mature, adult fashion. Doing so is likely to either get you unbanned immediately, much sooner or have some sort of arrangement made to help you out.

HOWEVER, ban DODGING, instantly forfeits this opportunity. Ban dodging is not acceptable and will be punished without mercy. Here is the list of admins you may contact:

Rael0505

AIM: Rael0505

MSN: [email protected]

Yahoo: Rael0505

Slingerland

AIM: CrazyMrBrad

DimensionWarped

AIM: DimensionWarped

We are volunteering to do this because we're just such nice guys. We will do our best to help you and if you're not a jerk, you can probably work SOMETHING out with us.

Added NEW ban policy. You can now APPEAL and DISCUSS your bans with myself. I am almost ALWAYS willing to work SOMETHING out with you, no matter what it is. I RESPECT those who have the courage to sit down and talk to me, one on one. If you think that you're a cool person who has something to offer to this community, but have found yourself banned, I'm the one to talk to about getting that taken care of for you. I AM WILLING TO HELP BANNED PEOPLE! Talk with me and we CAN work something out. Just don't ban dodge. Cowards will ban dodge rather than trying to work something out and I have no respect for cowards. (See: Redsonic)

Alright, I've edited the ban policy rule as well. Since PC0 hasn't been around in a year, I made the active admins in charge of letting banned members back in. Any banned member may contact Rael0505, Slingerland, Ila, or Gamerdude to try to work something out.

Added the rule on multiple accounts, it needed to be done.

the other way round is also annoying, when people make "team" accounts and share the password between members. (or bugmenot ones). all can be reduced to "One account per person, and one person per account"
