Final Fantasy 13

Recommended Posts

Everytime the game puts me back in control of Lightning, i have an absolute blast. Sazh became fun as soon as i acquired Blitz for him, and even MORE fun once i got his 4th attack and he pulls that rifle out.

Oh and i actually timed an attack for the Scourge skill. I have achieved a Meteor Smash. This game is officially the coolest RPG ever. I mean shooting multiple nukes is awesome, but how often can you knock someone into the air and DBZ their asses in realtime srsly

so anyway back to the topic. The damage cap on this game is like 999,999 damage. I saw a youtube video of some guy fighting one of those giant fuckers on Pulse. Start of the match, it used Quake and did over 10,000 damage to his entire party. yay for endgame content!

gb2 to doing whatever cool kids do. Like smoke behind the bleachers or listening to bands no one gives a fuck about, or whatever. We're trying to have a fucking discussion about video games on a forum about making video games.

As us nerds like to say, go chug a dick.

With that out of the way, wow, Sazh, Vanille, and Hope are an abysmal team and being stuck with that god forsaken party was just plain awful. Getting Lightning back was a godsend. Also, that Odin battle was brutal. Had to restart a few times before I figured out the right strategy.

Oh, and someone bought me the players guide today. I've never laughed at a map so hard before. I'm totally down with the linear gameplay, but damn, I'm not gonna get lost or anything! Ah well, it's the thought that counts.

didn't you already tell me to do this?

so yeah, FF13, haven't played yet, but I kinda hope I can eventually. (this is assuming i'll ever afford a PS3)

Yeap. Just wondering why you haven't done it yet.

Its on Xbox 360 as well which is considerably cheaper. Dunno if you want to buy an xbox just for FFXIII though.

BTW, you nerds obviously don't understand ironic humor. I buy video games, play them, make them, draw fuckin Hedgehog robots. You damn nerds need to lighten up and maybe STOP chugging dicks.

I know you're being ironic, I laugh when it's not in a thread I actually give a fuck about. Talk about the game though, save the dick chugging to threads I don't care about.

As for me, haven't had much time to play through the game, but I hit chapter 11 and was floored at the massive area I got thrown into, I beat a cactuar and ran around leveling up for a while. I almost feel obligated to sit around and max out my crystariums for a while : \.

The Chapter 11 boss was ridiculous. If you turtle him in theory you can beat him, but then he decides to cast Doom on you if you take too long to finish him off. The target time for the boss was 10 minutes for me, but it took me 20.

for the chapter 9 boss I maxed my crystariums, had a party of Lightning sazh and snow. Anytime I needed to heal I had sasz set to his synergist role, and he'd cast haste and attack/magic boost buffs which are all godsends. Use a librascope to get all the weaknesses and resistances determined from the get go. Go to town on the secondary heads, I think the right side is way harder to kill, i could be totally wrong though.

This game is subverting jRPG relationship cliches. Leading dude is already engaged, leading female wants to fuck a 15 year old boy, the other two females are lesbian partners, and the last remaining dude's already got a son.

HOW THE HELL AM I SUPPOSED TO MAKE A OTP AND FANFIC IF EVERYONE'S ALREADY TAKEN?! I QUIT VIDEO GAMES.

Actually, I'm about to polish off Chapter 7. Hope threatened to be unhorrible for exactly 3 seconds before getting his shit pushed in by a boss. Also, I can't get sentinels to work for the life of me.

Sentinels are the shit, basically if you're controlling them you mash X whenever you're turn is open, other wise, let the comp pull hate for you while you accomplish what you need to with that particular paradigm. I have sentinels set up for healing and buffing mostly.

I really found it funny instead of the lead guy going for the lead girl, he ends up HAVING his sister before the game even started. Hope and Lightning are the lonely people in the group. Hope looks like a 13 year old girl and fang already has vanille to violate. Lightning is too much of a man to pull a guy who isnt some demigod superfighter, and Snow is too fucking annoying to have pulled anyone but Lightning's 12 year old sister.

Actually, i'd say they're avoiding the worse of the RPG tropes in general -- all the characters being BFF. One of the characters actually wants to kill the other for a good 15 hours of the game, not to mention the only person who liked Snow from the jump was Vanille and maybe Sazh. I know I didnt like Snow at the beginning of the game. And Lightning points out his character flaw so perfectly at one point that it made me laugh. I guess he just grows on the cast when the whole team is just so fucked that his classical JRPG Attitude is the only thing that can keep them sane.

In all, i'd say they did a good job with the character development on this game, better than any of the other titles ive played anyway.

And Sentinels DO feel kind of like a 5th wheel at the start, but oh god how they are important as you progress the game. Basically, Provoke --> Steelguard or Mediguard (or the one that counterattacks, if you feel like it.) It is not a class ment for killing, only stalling for time to accomplish something (Buffing/Healing your party without the enemy finishing you off) or getting out of a horrible imbalance, like 8 enemies trying to kill you. Provoke takes the bulk of the pressure off your party so you can actually get them down to a managable number before finishing them off. Only issue with the class that it seems Square overlooked is when you're fighting an enemy that has attacks with Splash Damage, the characters aren't programmed to spread out away from the Sentinel, so if your tank is close you're screwed. (coughalexandercough)

Just got to Chapter 11. Gotta say, when they showed this part of the game early in development (and it was lagging up a storm) i didn't expect much, but damn its awesome. Oh yeah, and the game just took a serious difficulty curve. Its like almost every other enemy you run into decimates you. Ive been here doing the clan marks for like 2 hours, damn these battles are fun.

Also, the high level abilities are just so fun to use, with the changing camera angles and huge asplosions and stuff. Ruinga made me laugh for like the whole match i first used it on. So did Fang's awesome 4th ground attack. (It happened way back, but Sazh's took me by surprise when i first noticed it changed, too.)

Yes! Saszh's combined rifle attack is the shit!

As for sentinels and splash damage, if you've gone through fangs yet, you'll notice she has an ability that mitigates splash damage to her team mates as long as she's in sentinel job. It's quite useful, I'm hoping snow gets that too, cause that's all she's got over him right now, though he's swimming in HP.

...Wow, there's actually a skill that does that? Well i guess they didn't overlook it then.

Fang's biggest minus for me is that she does not have the Ravenger class. Doesn't matter though, she is an excellent Saboteur (with the Slowga, Cursega and Dispelga) and she is a better Commander than Snow is in most cases for me.

My team for the time being (just entered

Gran Pulse

) is Fang, Sazh and Lightning. Sazh's Synergist buffs are the absolute shit, and Fang doubles as an extra commander or the Sentinel, which is mandatory for some of the enemies out here. Only flaw is it makes both lightning and ME the healer, which is horrible both ways because the CPU is usually alot better suited and my Lightning's healing capabilities aren't the best. But when there's one enemy left on the field, nothing is more fun than Breaking them and going com/com/com on their asses.

This is like the best RPG battle system i ever played with, and it only got better now that all the roles for my characters are unlocked. (Too bad each node from the start is like 600 billion CP.) I cant wait until im able to take down enemies like those huge Adamantiose or the Behemoth King. (which i KNOW must be difficult, because near low health or break status they like to stand up like the other ones from FF)

Just got to Chapter 10.

Jesus christ. That 17 minute battle was tedious as fuck. It's not even that hard. I just got pissed when I had a few percent left to stagger and he'd use that fucking charge move.

Now I'm even more upset because my indecisiveness means I have trouble picking party members AND character growth. Then the damn game gave me all 6 roles for every character at once!

This game will be the death of me.
