Pheonix Gamma
I was going to start a Platinum thread, since we had a pretty big one for D/P awhile back. Haha...D.P. Ahem. Right. Anywho, since I'm not sure how much there is to actually discuss this game anymore, I figured I'd post an entertaining news story along with the usual first impressions. News story enclosed in spoiler tag because it's a tiny bit long. Trouble was brewing at the Pokemon Platinum release party earlier today, caused by none other than the notorious team rocket. An overweight, sweaty, and generally unkempt man dressed as James from the Pokemon Anime distributed his own, edited version of the flyers being handed out by nintendo officials, including an extra line regarding a mystery gift event (which was not officially scheduled to occur). Using his own hacked copy of the game, he distributed a mystery gift containing a shiny level 100 Gengar named ["the N Word" PG] (moveset: Thief, shadow claw, sludge bomb, and snatch [Also, Truant was his special ability PG]). After several announcements through the loudspeakers dotting the area around the event not to download any mystery gifts (because they would "corrupt your game"), officials finally tracked down James and escorted him off the premises. As he was dragged away, the overweight cosplayer rebeliously yelled "TEAM ROCKET'S BLASTING OFF AGAIN!" No, really. You can't make this shit up. And an image of the guy: Now, I've actually seen this guy a few times before in , so this is a mix of creepy, offensive, and fucking hilarious. As for the game, they changed a few things around. There's some cop guy in a trench coat that hides behind buildings and shouts at trainers, the intro is changed up a teeny bit, and some of the trainer rosters are switched up. The graphics got tightened up a bit (some superfluous, some a little more major) and the new battle recorder is given to you pretty early on, which is neat. Haven't made it to the revamped gyms or new dungeon yet, but I should be reaching it pretty soon; I just transferred my main party from Diamond over so that I can start tearing new assholes into all of the trainers. Aerosol
I sold Diamond. Pokemon got less fun when I realized that it would truly take forever to catch them all.....A childhood dream. Shattered.
Pheonix Gamma
Or a group of friends :V Between the four of my buddies, we managed to collect and trade them all.

Aerosol
None of my friends play pokemon PG. TRD did...then he quit. So I quit. He was my source of legally-obtained pokemon that I couldn't be arsed to catch or trade for.
Cyber Rat
I haven't played Pokemon in ages. I think I'll try Platinum to see how far the series has evolved (I think the last thing I played was Fire Red...).
shadowgoten
shit i got it loaded up, haven't pokeman'ed in a while, and the formula still isn't old to me yet.
ila
I'm playing Platinum right now, when I'm not being sucked into Rittai Picross or my Persona 3/4 replays. Decided to trade some eggs to my game. Starting with Torchic, Squirtle, and Chikorita is fun.
Eminence
I legitimately "Caught" them all on Blue Version via trades... after that I really wasn't too enthusiastic when they released Gold and Silver saying, "OH HAI LOOKZ DERE ARE 100 MORE." I mean... I still played Gold/Silver with pleasure, but as a middle-school kid I feel like I'd been had. Last Pokemon game I played was Gold Version, I might just start back up again however. DimensionWarped
I on the other hand would have been pissed if they hadn't decided to keep adding more to every generation. If you are going to keep a franchise around, you'd better at least add more to it every now and then. It isn't like catching them all ever did anything worthwhile anyway, so people who are complaining about having that achievement taken from them are kinda retarded. *this player never gave enough of a shit to catch more than 80 in a game*
1LT Worm
I've been playing Silver version lately...I can't be bothered to buy a DS to catch 200 more oddly designed Pokémon. At least the new 100 in the 2G series were cool.
Pheonix Gamma
@Ila: I'll probably start rockin' Pikachu as my main starter. He's sitting in my party, Light Ball in hand Don't mind me, wild Starly. I'm just VOLT TACKLING you. Fuck you and your stupid face. This 'Chu is bred to kill. @Worm: You should play the GBA hack, Pokemon ShinyGold. It's not totally complete yet (Kanto is all that's missing) but it's got all the bells and whistles of the GBA games, but with some added features made by the hacker. This was me as a middle-school kid bro. I watched the show, played the games, bought the cards. With the intent of franchise "Gotta Catch Em' All". Which I did. Feeling accomplished. Having an additional 100 just recklessly thrown at me, while having to collect all 150 from the first game again. Yes that was frustrating. Sure I still played Gold/Silver, but with less drive. Obviously to keep the franchise going they had to add more, but I was merely telling a story from a child's perspective. Thanks for calling me retarded though. It added some real substance to that last post.
wesker
I caught the 150 plus glitched Pokemon in Red/Blue then never played a Pokemon game ever again. Not because I don't like them but because I just don't really care anymore. If they made an MMO, i'd give it a go.
Aerosol
...that's what diamond and pearl (and platinum) are though, wesker. Or do you mean being able to walk around do that social jazz in games like Ragnarok and stuff?
wesker
Yeah a straight up MMO. Start as a scrappy trainer from the inner-city of Johto (Or some other place) and fight your way through gyms and through a tourney of other trainers for the chance at your own gym. Oh yeah. Doubt they'd ever make it or even make it the way i'd like to see it but, i'd be on it if it were made.
Pheonix Gamma
Over 54,000 levels! CONSIDER YOUR GAMES...TOASTED! And a Pokemon MMO was actually pitched to Nintendo by a third party awhile back. Obviously it didn't pan out. Nintendo would need a competent online system before they could start making that. And even then, the game's creators have specifically stated that they want to keep the main series on portables.
Aerosol
That would be pretty awesome, except there would have to be dozens and dozens of servers. The sheer scope of a Pokemon MMORPG where you can buy ferry rides and bus rides and such to and from every region in the pokemon world is mind boggling. If only there were somebody bored/talented enough to start modelling locale from Red and Blue into a full world. EDIT: And what PG said. Nintendo's system of online sucks ass. I already ranted over this in another thread so I ain't doin it again. As for Platinum: I haven't been picking up many DS games lately, but I may pick it up once I get the chance and I'm back in the pokemon mood. As for the whole "gotta catch um all" thing? It was the "it" thing back in the day and every kid wanted to do it. As soon as Gold and Silver came out, I wasn't mad that there were a hundred more to catch after catching the last 150. Hell I was excited! Come on, a bunch more pokemon you can fool around with, new evolutions, new moves and new types; That's a challenge and I loved it. And so did a majority of its fanbase. But the phrase has died since Ash (Aka Mr. Regional Amnesiac Retard) didn't get with the program. P.S: Nintendo, still waiting on a Gold and Silver remake. I'm serious, you pull this off and the dough will literally fly at you.

There is a fan made Pokemon MMO that is relatively complete. It's still being made and everything. Also it's made with java. http://www.pokeglobal.org/ Anyways They are eventually going to run out of ideas and then will make horrible spliced creatures that will look ten times worse then P/D are already. Streak Thunderstorm
There needs to be a pokemon RPG that has a full world, realtime battles and the battle shsould control like brawl or something close to it. Shit moves like Tail whip and pound wont be learnable as they are basic moves that anything can do... Special moves like rollout or overheat can be assigned to specific direction+button combinations to have a dynamic as F*&& effect on how battles go. [Sly]
Hey guy Pachirisu and Lucario are awesome >((((((((((((((((((((srsly a jedi dog that knows Kung Fu that shit is crazy Yeah those two are cool and also some others are too but look at the really awful ones like, Magnezone Magmortar Electivire Tangrowth Rhyperior Lickilicky They pretty much raped them into hideous monsters. Pretty much they have pretty cool concepts in the new games but from the looks of it the new pokemon are gonna have more and more abominations and eventually they will run out ideas for what the new pokemon will control. They pretty much have everything, Space, Time, and Human Emotions. Soon they will have to make pokemon based on household items. Toothbruzor Brushicon Shaverous Lawnmowix and so on. My favorites were Gold and Silver because it was adding a lot of new features that were not in the original.
