First (or second) review for the game is through...

Official Nintendo Magazine gave Sonic and the Secret Rings...81%

Sonic's Wii debut is by no means perfect, but it's still a fantastic game that finally gives the blue blazer the sort of fast-paced, slick action he deserves. It's tricky to master but once you do, it really shines.

Yea? Well where's the gameplay? The previews? Where's anything to make me even care? Gameplay?

:P

Edit: As far a Sonic's model.. his face shape (and yes, it is tons different than the Heroes model), height, and stomach shape make it look a lot more like the model from the original Sonic Adventure. The coloring helps tons, as well.

Alright, alright. So you've got two reviews from two equally reputable sources. =P

...wait, no, we're talking about NOM here. Never mind. But it's a good start nontheless.

Um... I hope that ONM isn't anything like their spanish counterpart, because the latter has a scale less reliable than Famitsu. Most, and I do mean most, of their reviews range from 85 to 99% - and that'd make 81% a low score lolol.

I always thought Sonic's SotR model was a heavily modified Heroes mesh btw. I like it, and might end up mimicking it sometime if I'm bored enough >_>

They gave Rayman a low 70s grade and they gave Zelda a high 90s grade. It could mean anything.

I'm still waiting for a more useful review myself.

EDIT:

If it helps at all, I know that this review was pretty well thought out and discusses a lot of stuff about how it improved since E3, the problems with it, and all kinds of other stuff.

Famitsu is also fixed.

First of all, I've got to say that the homing attack is one very very small aspect to the engine.

Second... XD XD XD XD XD XD XD XD. You call that a fixed homing attack? Faster you say? It doesn't even speed you up when you are on the ground. What in the holy hell are you smoking? All SH's homing attack was good for was having you uncontrollably plow off the edge of one of its rectangular square pieces of terrain with no wall. The only thing fast about it was that you could use it to bounce into the enemy dozens of times without stoping, which is something that only serves to soak even more variety out of the game. SH's homing attack was by far the worst I had ever seen in a Sonic game. I've never seen something as prone to throw me in a random direction in my life.

And thematic variety isn't real variety. Its only skin deep. Every level in Sonic Heroes is basically a straight line with the very rare branching path that only persists for approximately 3-10 seconds before rejoining the main. The only two gimmicks to stay unique to a single stage were the switches from Hang Palace/Mystic Mansion, and the upward flowing walls from Grand Metropolis.

Oh, and the most boring ever frog. They don't really do anything, but they still qualify as a gimmick in the most roundabout sorta way possible. Sure, you can't really interact with them and they don't really change much of jack squat. Their whole role might just be to slow you down looking for them too.

The only camera bugs I ever had playing SA2 were ones I didn't care about. These occurred in the shooting levels and treasure hunting levels... which to me was just some extra fluff anyway.

SH gave me plenty of bugs. Like for instance, the light dash would randomly just stop in the middle of a big path of rings leaving you falling to your death. Eventually I developed reflexes to correct that problem by doing a second light dash when the first stops, but I shouldn't have had to in order to make the damn thing playable. The homing attack probably killed me more than any enemy ever did and Knuckles' ability to slide everywhere while attacking probably killed me more than the homing attack. I don't even want to talk about the huge heap of bugs that came out of Bingo and the Pinball tables. Then there is falling through floors, and every other mood killer imaginable.

First, Prop 21 is for New Sonic titles specifically. Second, as I have stated countless times now, Sonic Team is a lie. The never went to shit because they never existed.

...Whatever.

I died about 80% less than i did on SA2:B due to camera glitches, bugs and homing attack errors. I know there are plenty of glitches in all the sonic games, but in order to achieve the level of annoying bugs you speak of requires you to simply suck ass at it.

Seriously. If you died that many times due to the homing attack/ speed issues, you just ____ing suck. I dont think ive EVER been killed by sliding off the stage, unless it was knuckles' annoying punches. But all the stage edges had running guards anyway, so i dont know what the ____ your talking about. The Homing attack on that game was as good as it could get, and it was a Shitload better than the one in Next.

Light dash had its problems in SA-SA2:B as well, but at least when you mis-press the lightdash button, the Tornado move actully gives you a VERY good chance of getting it right the next time, instead of just simply doing a mach-speed bounce attack down to your doom.

In all truth, the only diagnostic i can get from your Sonic Heroes problems is that you simply Suck. You have to HOLD a direction for the homing attack to go that way. If your trying to shoot right and your holding foward, of course its going to go the wrong way.

I can tell you wont be very pleased with this new one, DW.

I don't believe anything could be worse. Though I haven't read the magazine in question.

Let's just say I've had troubles finding any negatives regarding the reviewed games in the couple spanish ONM issues my lil' sister bought. It's like reading a child's opinion sometimes, making me ponder what's their criteria. At least Famitsu's hype-based reviews sometimes bring up actual valid criticism.

Can't comment on foreign ONM though, much less if they've gone through a staff change.

I suck enough to have all emblems and beat Super Hard Mode.

Yeah, that right there is enough to say ____ you in record time. You see, its kinda hard to play that argument on me. I've been abusing glitches and shoddy physics since I was 3 years old you see. So its only too easy for me to be quite good at bad games.
