  1. I recommend you to just start building a game, you will learn alot making games.(at least I did) First, try making simple ones, learning the basics of the engine your using, then you can try making more difficult games and editing the engine. (adding gimmiks, etc). You will learn most of the stuff by looking how it is coded, and you should just try playing around a bit. using engines is simple too, just start building a game on top of it,by making your own graphics, sprites and levels and if you have a bit more experience you can edit the engine how you want it.(as long as it follows the rules the engine creator has given) I'd first recommend using a more simple engine, but you can directly start with SDASH if you want, though it might be hard to understans if you are a beginner. :/ I'm still kind of new to fangaming and I'm not a pro,but hope this little advice may help you out a bit.~|

  2. ^This^ Anywhoo, I completely agree with Raven's suggestion. While DASH takes a while to understand, once you get the style of coding down, it's pretty damn easy, if I say so myself. I'm planning on converting my fangame from it's old engine to DASH because I'm more accustomed to it now.

  3. Hey! I was new a couple months ago. Here's a pretty great response I got: http://www.sonicfangameshq.com/forum/showthread.php?t=7141 My own response; I recommend SDASH. It's harder to understand the coding behind it, but it's more complete than REX, imo. I got to grips with it by creating a new character in SDASH from scratch, and then reading all the coding behind Sonic's character to create my own. It worked pretty well. ;D

  5. Use Dash+. It's a highly advanced engine that is based upon the old DASH engine. The link for it is HERE. Of course, it's pretty useful and provides explanations for a lot of stuff. Once you get used to the coding style, it's easy.
