Anyone remember this?

[qimg]http://dl.dropbox.com/u/5505419/DD_Original.png[/qimg]

Well, 6 hours later....

I do plan on not letting this awesome looking zone go to waste.

That level design actually inspired me for a desert stage of types, minus that bull head in the ground which seems to break the level design in my opinion.

One thing that would bother me is how ridiculous and cheap the parallax scroll would look in the flat land portion of the background.

Sonic 1 and CD use 256x256. The zig zags seem too small for a Genesis style level though.

and Blazefire, the Desert Dazzle screen is already clean in Sonic CD, you just had to rip it. :/

You're kidding.......Well shit. At least it was good practise though. However, it still doesn't have a complete tileset so I'll at least continue down that road. How did I do with it though? Is it accurate enough?

You know, I'd REALLY like to make a zone with this, including Time Travel.

I'm trying to finish both Stormy Sky and Radiant Shrine on these vacations.

You mean, if I use it I could be "in a literal sense" using Taxman's work assuming it was Sega's? Because if so, I was assuming it was official. Since I know most of us are accustom to using most of the scrapped content from most Sonic games. Now that I think about it, there is a big C.W in the corner. (Christian Whitehead). :S I have no way of contacting him anyway so I can't really ask for permission. If what you say is true I'll just have to drop it.

I'm not really asking for this "Desert Dazzle" thingy, but I just want graphics here. Any graphics, if they're cool. For Past, Present or Future.

@BlazefireLP What happened to

>:

Stopped working on it randomly after watching a shit load of MLP - FIM episodes. =/

Since its an official release of Sonic CD anything within the game is fair game. Arguably without even crediting Taxman and definitely without speaking to him on the matter. I doubt Taxman is legally able to give anyone permission to use those graphics because they are probably owned by Sega. Anyway rarely do we bother crediting anyone with official graphics besides "Sega".

The only thing that makes me question that, Overbound, is the fact it says C.W at the bottom right corner. Being "Christian Whitehead" which is Taxman's initials. I was redoing it while having the same state of mind as if I just simply grabbed something like Hydrocity and started editing it.

I'll keep visiting Retro untill I can get some clarification of if it was him that specifically put it in there to show what it was going to look like.

Taxman already confirmed that Desert Dazzle was a level he proposed to add to Sonic CD. SEGA ended up saying no.

So what is this image doing in Sonic CD?

Basically, earlier on in the remake's development there were 2 new levels: Desert Dazzle & Final Fever (another boss)

Neither level was fully complete, and we had to make the call whether or not to go ahead and finalize them. Sonic Team felt the game should not deviate too far from it's original form, and in retrospect it was for the best since we had a lot of other work to do anyway.

I left this image in since it's quite a groovy looking Zone, and it also serves as a way for you to get to the stage select as Tails.

The direct quote.

@SnowToilet: Huh, I missed Brads post. Just ignore him snow toilet. I have done for the past several years. It's the only way....

@Slingerland: MerryChristmas!

@Sparks: Since he is the one that proposed it then I guess it was in-fact his. I'll just scrap the idea of making a zone of it.

@chaos fusion: I really like those tiles. They are very good for a first try. Based on seeing this, I think you'll go far with tile making very quickly.

He never replies to me. I've sent him a few in the past. Still waiting for a reply in the current one I sent.

Ok, someone pointed this topic out to me, and I checked every single point of contact I have. No messages from you ever mate.

FYI : I designed Desert Dazzle and Final Fever during the Sonic CD (2011)'s development. That particular screenshot is property of SEGA as it was included in the final product.

I will not give permission to use this, just as SEGA never gives you permission to use other graphics. Whether you choose to ignore intellectual property rights is your call. It would be a shame to have my work recognized by an inferior copy though. (less than half of the artwork is even visible to you, nor the actual level design).

Why not spend some extra time and come up with your own desert level?

Well, if you'd rather me not use it Taxman, then that's completely understandable. Bareing in mind though that I wasn't just going to leave it as is, I was going to add variety and stuff. I have made MANY tiles before. Overbound is a good coach. I'll just drop the idea and leave it as is, in SonicCD where it belongs. Thanks for clarifying though Taxman, really appreciate it.

Thanks for the confirmation Taxman, turns out I was wrong. This does raise my interest to how copyrighted material works in video games! (and encourages me to practice customs more whenever I can)

As for original desert levels, maybe someone will design a level based off the biggest desert in the world.
