Chaos-Fusion
Just recently, I discovered that my year old 2TB Seagate hdd is in need of service (despite it being handled properly) and I need recommendations of HDD brands since I'm not too fond of taking another chance with Seagate. What Brands would you guys recommend?
DimensionWarped
Well, my luck with Seagate hard drives in general has been rather poor. On the other hand, I've never had a non-laptop Western Digital HD fail... at least not in less than 4 years, and that was just one drive.
shadowgoten
Western Digital makes some quality stuff. http://www.amazon.com/Western-Digital-Passport-Portable-Drive/dp/B006Y5UV4A/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1343241015&sr=8-1&keywords=external+hard+drive I had a friend that has the older version of these guys ^ and seriously that thing took a beating and worked like a champ for several years, and even now it's still fighting on. GSF
I had good experiences with WD and Samsung. (Seagate has been quite crappy lately. Just ask the ones with a certain variety of 500 GB HDDs that got stuck with the BSY bug...) WD Passports or Samsung externals should do the trick. But if you have several drives lying around, consider getting an enclosure or cradle for them - they're cheap, and easily let you switch drives. Falk
If this is for external backup rather than mobility I cannot stress enough getting powered drives. They just are much less prone to failure.
TailsSena
All I can say here is that I've heard good things about the Seagate Baraccuda drives... If that helps at all, considering what seems to be the universal opinion regarding Seagate...
Chaos-Fusion
Alright, WD 3, Seagate 1. Thanks for the quick recommendations guys
Ristar
I have a 320GB Western Digital passport and it has been a total sweetheart. Got me all the way through university and is still going strong. Though now I've said this it will probably die.
