VectorSatyr
Anybody heard of .adx? It's a decent quality filetype used for music on the Dreamcast and the Gamecube. It was developed for the purpose of establishing compressed, seamlessly looping music, but can be used for other things as well. Haley's Comet Software produced a neat dll for effectively playing and looping .adx files in Winamp. What does this have to do with Game Maker, you ask? Well it just so happens that we've already been blessed with a Winamp wrapper for GM, straight from the pages of Game Maker Forums. Combining the SXMS system with "in_cube.dll", we can create seamlessly looping music in our GM games. Advantages * Did I mention it loops seamlessly? * Decent filesize, though not as great as your typical mp3 or ogg. * Can still play the music outside of GM by installing the in_cube.dll into your media player. Disavantages * Can potentially suck up a noticable amount of processor time, so you'll want to minimize memory usage on your computer (and in your game, as well) before implementing it. * Converted .adx files will typically be quieter than their .mp3 or .wav counterparts. It's a complicated process, but worth it if you're sick of audio that doesn't loop correctly, or has a noticible pause before looping. Requirements GAME MAKER 6.x (Registered) - SXMS (Winamp side) - in_cube.dll Please, share your methods of audio usage in Game Maker! EDIT: For the .adx creation tut, you can use Audacity or Winamp to make the .wav files if you're converting from mp3 or OGG vorbis.
Slingerland
Looks better than Felik's crap ass version. I might have to check it out to compare.
VectorSatyr
Just to be safe, I'm going to try this out on multiple systems to determine the best recommended setup to use them. I'll edit this post with frequent results.
Gradient
That would be good. I can see myself having problems with memory usage, but we'll see. Good find.
BRPXQZME
The BRPXQZME approves of .adx, just thought you'd like to know (not). After all, those MUGEN kiddies love it. (P.S. "seamless" music looping is good. "seemless", ironically, is not good. an unfortunate misspelling for sure.)
