  1. I'm surprised that someone still has my old 3D "Sonic Point of Action" demo. Anyways, the demo that was released during SAGE 2008 did not run on some computers (like Windows Vista and Win7). If you want an upgraded demo (that runs on all Windows platforms) you can download it from here (link).
  2. Happy Birthday Overbound! and to top it off:
  3. No offense, but this is nothing new. Sonic GL, Sonic Bastardized, Sonic Genesis, Sonic Ashura Dark Reign, Damizean/Mark, Sonic Point of Action, Athimator's Sonic BGE, and all major 3D games engines use ray casting for collisions (and slops). Quoted for the truth. True... but then why don't you just use pure C++ and save yourself the trouble of using GameMaker? Well, it appears that you put a great deal of work into your engine and it is good for a GM game. However, nothing that have you mentioned is "new". Then why do you use it? Please, look around at better engines that are designed for 3D games. I strongly recommend that you take a look at the Blender Game Engine if you want to make a 3D game.
  4. Anyways... Is there any word on what is going to happen to the project? If it was released as open source, the community would at least have the opportunity to revive the project. It would be waste to see it just die like this, but the final decision is up to the developers. Edit: Nevermind, I found the answer:
  5. That it true for most open source / freeware apps. However, there are some rare exceptions to the rule. For example, I suggest that you look into some of the work done by Erwin Coumans. He's a software developer at Sony but (in his free time) works on fantastic libraries and applications for free. His Bullet Physics library is free and open source. It has even been used in Hollywood films (link)(link).
  6. *sigh* Another good project dies... Have you ever heard of Freeware and/or Open Source? Some great open source / freeware apps include FireFox, Gimp, and Blender. Also, there are countless (free) professional libraries including Bullet Physics, SDL, OpenGL, Irrlicht, Ogre, and many others. In addition, there is also a free operating system (linux). Now, it is true that most open source (or freeware) projects lag behind commercial products. However, saying that they are "bad" or "below professional quality" is simply not true.
  7. The wii is quite durable. My little brother pulled our wii off the shelf (twice), which is about a 4 foot drop. On the other hand, I believe the disk reader is just about to go. Every time the wii reads a game disk, it is extremely loud (and constantly getting worse). I had similar problems with my old GameCube until one day it stopped reading games... now the same thing seems to be occurring with the wii. At least my wii is homebrew enabled. If the disk reader dies, I can just boot the games through the HB channel.
  8. The best thing is to try and prevent viruses from getting on your computer in the first place. There is an add-on called "no-script" (that works with Firefox) which prevents unauthorized content from loading in your web browser. I haven't had virus since I installed no-script and I strongly recommend it.
  9. Where I live (Wisconsin), it only takes 5 minutes to walk down to the store and buy a 16GB flash drive for $50. But yeah.... on ebay it's always "buyer beware".
  10. I finally had a chance to try this on my new computer and it is rather impressive. I do have a few minor things to comment on though. - Before the game runs, it does a live update. If security software (or the fire wall) blocks the application from connecting to the internet, the application hags. The problem is that even windows task manager can't kill it. In order to close the application, the entire operation system needs to restart.... while a simple timeout feature would prevent that. - The controls seem a little odd to me. Being able to customize the controls would be nice. - When you get hit by an enemy, sometimes you will go flying through barriers, walls, etc. For example, I was fighting knuckles when I was hit through a wall and end up somewhere outside the stage. I know it's just a minor glitch, but I'd thought I'd bring it to your attention. Other than those minor bugs, I found this game rather enjoyable, and it definitely has potential. One of the most interesting features of this game, is the amount of interaction. Keep up the good work. =)
  11. While not particularly designed for 2D games, you might want to take a look at Blender. Blender has a 3D game engine that runs on Windows, Mac, and Linux. While it's designed to make 3D games, you could make 2D games if you want. Blender also has a huge forum and lots of support. You might want to take a look at the Blender artist forums when you find the time.
  12. I have the same problem as sonicyoda - except I know I have OpenGL on my computer. It's not a question as to whether or not you have OpenGL, but rather, it depends on the OpenGL version and/or graphics card your running. Personally, I'm using a Intel integrated graphics chip (I'm guessing sonicyoda is running something similar). In order for your game to work, I'm guessing you would need a Nvidia card or ATI card.
  13. Well based on the number of post, I'm not sure if that many people have played it yet. AeroGP: What version of Game Maker did you use?
  14. The intro and graphics look very professional. It seems to well on my computer. The only problem is that everything seemed to move in slow motion (but it wasn't skipping frames). I'm not sure if that's how you made the game, or if it's just my computer. But even if it was my computer, it still didn't effect the game play too much. Nice work.
  15. Happy B day DW. You deserve this. =)
  16. Does "GLSL" ring a bell? Anyways, great stuff Azu. Those shaders are awesome!
  17. I feel your pain. I had a smooth frame rate a few days ago with my game. But I started to add higher resolution textures and extra details... which caused the frame rate to suffer. I know I could fix it if I had the time, but like you said, there's less than 24 hours left.
  18. Yea, that's good. I think we all are in the same boat (generally speaking). I mean, a lot of development changes can be done within a week and a half. And I believe I'll register my booth on the 7th (everything is nearly complete). You know what they say, you shouldn't wait till the last minute... so wait till the minute before the last minute. =P
  19. I can guarantee that 3D Sonic Action will be in SAGE again this year, and this time, with a playable demo. Progress has been very slow, but steady. 70% of the progress the past year has been in the hard code (programming). I'll have to update in a few days and then I'll submit some info.
  20. This is garbage! I also heard that Nintendo blocked freeloader too. >(
  21. hmm... I guess this thread was pretty old. My bad. But seriously, why aren't there more updates on this game? I guess well just have to wait... *Thead sinks to the bottom*
  22. Wow, almost 3 pages about "how SEGA should make games". Now I can see why Slingerland was getting annoyed. Anyways, the engine is very nice. I do have an issue with the camera, though. Personally, I like 3th person games where you don't need to manually control the camera. If you still want to keep the mouse controls perhaps you could allow the user to choose what type of camera he/she wants. Just a suggestion.
  23. P3DR0, what driver does MMF2 run off of? - DirectX, OpenGL, etc? Wait, it isn't running off of OpenGL because Fraps doesn't work. But when Fraps is running your game goes about 10X slower, plus it causes unusual errors like robots reappearing in spots there not suppose to. By the way, my new best time is 40:34 seconds.
  24. Beat it in 44 seconds. =P I wouldn't call it the "best" 2D fan game necessarily, but it is defiantly up there. I can't really say anymore than what's already been said.
  25. Ok, I see what he means. Yea, you can scale your "object" with the "s" key. To scale on only one axis press: x+s or y+s or z+s. To scale on a local axis you can press: x+x+s or y+y+s or z+z+s. To move an object press "g". Moving an object on an axis is similar to how you would scale an object on an axis. That is called an object.
