  1. Hello everyone! I updated slightly with an engine test video: Please excuse the bad collision detection and animation...I wrote the engine myself and I still need to program slopes ;P. If anyone has suggestions to helping me make the engine smoother, please let me know.
  2. you can switch the two bottom quarterpipes and make them slopes so that you can use that charge move your character has to bounce up. The flow of the boss wont be killed if you take advantage of that.

  6. *reads above post* Now I find myself impatiently awating updates on this project... Dammnit Strife! Look what you've done. I really like the little touch you said you added to the enemies. Not to sound like a bitter but do you mind if I play around with the idea for one of my projects?

I know how to make layers change in a sonic game (place a layer change object somewere and when the player collides, the current ground becomes a non solid object and the new ground goes from non solid to solid) but I want to be able to make the player change the layer at the push of a button: This is my attempt at this. I put this in the step event of objcontrol and it doesnt change the layers. In the ground objects, I made it so depending on the layer, they will be either solid or non solid... Help would be much appreciated. EDIT: I also need some help making a small block in my game have physics. I want to be able to click it with the mouse and have it go flying or click near it and have it move slightly. And if anyone knows, I would also appreciate it if someone told me how I would go about making water ripple effects in GM. I know it has something to do with particles but I'm not exactly sure.

  10. Just looked up what Tempo was and i think you just introduced me to the most amazing game ever... From what I remember, I think pictures are enough. I'll get a video out asap though just in case.
  11. UPDATE: A lot of things have changed concept-wise but it is still the same game at its core. I unfortunately am not versed in programming or music but I definitely tried my best in those fields. There are many place holders as is apparent. I almost finished the art for the rest of the fans and EJ but my biggest concern is programming. I have a sufficient amount of proof and effort put into this game so if anyone would like to help who is familiar with GML, I'd greatly appreciate it. Story: Once upon a time in a universe known as Illuminosity, there was a king and a DJ. The DJ's music was played widely around all of Illuminosity but the jealous king did not like this very much. The king did research and found a way to get HIS music to be played widely around Illuminosity instead. One night, the DJ was performing when his eyes connected to a beautiful girl; the king was also interested in this same girl for his own reasons. So the king decided to kill 2 birds with one stone by capturing the girl and taking out the DJ in one fell swoop. Will the kings plans go the way he thinks they will? Will the DJ get this girl to fall for him? Who is this chick anyway? Welcome to the love story known as JAM! Game Details: Just close your eyes for a second and imagine this: When you toss on your headphones, you usually do it to zone people out and enter your own world right? A place where YOU control your enviornment, YOU ARE THE DJ! Depending on the type of genre of music your listening to, the level art and pathways change. You like rock? throw some rock on and watch as skulls and crazy spikey stuff comes out the ground. Like Funk? Well throw some on and the world of Illuminosity will bend for you! This is a music game...Buuut not just any music game; This is a music-based platformer! Features: -Welcome To YOUR World: Change the music on the playlist to change the enviornment around you to find hidden paths and secrets. -Reek Havoc: Throw sound waves to have fun with the enviornment. Hit blocks to have them go flying or hit a pot with a wave to have it shatter. -Explore Illuminosity: Take E.J. The DJ for a love trip like no other. Go through the story and find out what happens to the DJ, the girl and the king. -Any Weapon?...Really!?: Well not really but explore what is known as the Armory Pool... Characters: -E.J. The DJ Screenshots: Engine Test 1: Engine Test 2: **UPDATED VIDEO** Engine Test 3 Hystory: I started designing this game in my 8th grade year in middle school. Its name bounced from "Moon Light Nights" to "Genesis" to "Arms Race" then to "JAM". E.J. was once named "Emerald" when the game was still named "Moon Light Nights" and he wasn't black(E.J. is now black;p) The main character was originally going to be a girl named "sakura" because I was going through my otaku phase at the time. In my junior year of high school, I met this girl that I had a feeling would change my life(...dont ask-__-) so I dedicated this game to her ^__^( sounds cheesy, I know but what can I say, I'm that kind of guy) And since then, I've been working diligently on this game...concept-wise(I legit have EVERYTHING planned out). I recently found a programmer so this game will see the light of day soon...Infact, I plan to get a engine test video out before Thanksgiving to show you guys how it will play Currently making this in Game Maker and all the in-game level and character art will be original and hand drawn.   12. That was awesome! It looked like a sonic game but at the same time it didn't which was pretty wierd...But not a bad thing at all! I really liked the music too, it gave that dragon- like vibe; whos the musician?
  13. WHAT!?! ECLIPSE ACTUALLY POSTED A PIECE OF INFO?!? Well ladies and gentelmen, This game has been in the making since I started highschool(end of middle school) and because I recently found a programmer, I can bring it to fruition! These are the two main characters: E.J. The DJ and Kiki Von Tea respectivly. I have soooo much concept art to show you guys but I'm more focused on getting out a video or demo for my portfolio at the moment... Work in progress but you guys will love the finished product ^__^

  16. I appreciate the concern you two but at the moment, my biggest priority is getting a basic momement engine down which I know for a fact does not require a pro upgrade. What I used to do for movement would be: If keyboard_check(vk_right){ hspeed+=.7; } And the player would slowly accelerate if I held the right button, but now in 8.1 they accelerate but they go right off the screen even if i release the right button. I then tried using keyboard_check_pressed instead but i didnt know what to put for keyboard_check_released.
  17. Nice snow Delta but the style of it looks different compaired to the rest of the shot... in my opinion anyway. Could you maybe try adding alittle more shade to it in the right places? Kind of like the snow on the bottom right of the screen...
  18. I had it for GM 8 but I had to get my PC cleaned so it was erased. I'm not exactly making a sonic game perse but I am making a platformer. It wont be using a 360 loop engine... Just a LOT of special effects.
  19. Recently downloaded the new version of game maker and to put things bluntly, its ridiculously confusing to me. Ive been using game maker since GM 6.0 and I feel like the coding engine has been changed in this new one. There was a nice little platformer tutorial that used sonic advance 2 sprites and had gray blocks on the SFGHQ website but I cant access it for some strange reason. Can anyone be so kind as to help me find that tutorial? Or if another one that may be equally as helpful is around... Im specifically having trouble with: -acceleration/deceleration for left and right player movements -making the player jump -block collision detection Its probably just me thats just rusty but I'd like to use that sonic tutorial seeing as it was easy for me to understand as oppose to other tutorials. Help would be much appreciated, thanks.

  21. Trying to get a night time club feel. I drew out the enviornment but I'm having some trouble figuring out how I should make the ground look... I dont just want to put brown dirt because the feel im going for with this game is the very old school arcade, IN YO FACE feel. I wanted it to resemble glass of sorts but im having trouble. Help would be much appreciated. EDIT: Sorry for the image size, I'm using tinypic as an uploader and i cant change the size for some strange reason...
  22. Can I be the first to say that Garland Grove is the best looking level in life...ever... Not that you have to but out of curiosity, are you going to customize the player sprites?
  23. But keep in mind that if you just kick all the "newbies" to their own section, it wont solve anything. It would be better if everyone just learned from each other through critiscism no matter how harsh it may be. If someone isnt mature enough to handle this site, then that person probably shouldnt be on the internet. @Mysoniks: I like it. If you feel it may be too similar to SSK, you can always change it slightly by maybe using characters that werent in SSK or making it more street fighter/mugen esque. To be honest, if you were to be ripping off one of my games, I'd feel honered before insulted.
  24. In my opinion, you'll find the best suited name if you base it on the thing your trying to show off the most in the game. You apparently had a time traveling gimmick but removed it for some reason...so what would you say is going to fill the void of the time travel gimmick, in the sense that it is exploitable?
