TheJeli
I really enjoyed Generations, it was a very good game and was a great return to form. However, I would have made some slight changes that would make the game a bit better. It's a weird thought, but Generations doesn't really feel like a game, but more of a level collection. I would have made it so you started on classic Green Hill, moved on to two of the best missions to emulate act 2 and 3, and then do the same for every other level. I would have put Metal Sonic after Chemical Plant, Death Egg Robot after Sky Sanctuary, then shadow. Perfect Chaos after Seaside Hill, Silver after Crisis City, and Egg Dragoon after Planet Wisp. I would have changed a few levels too. I would have changed Seaside Hill to Casino Park, Crisis City to Tropical Jungle, Rooftop Run to Cool Edge (just so we got Icecap) and Planet Wisp to Asteroid Coaster. What are you're thoughts? What levels would you have?
Serephim
I feel like Sonic has abused its "returning to roots" approach at this point especially since every attempt is so lighthearted in execution. I would have removed all of the 2D sections from the game and made it one big 3D adventure that gave you 2 acts of all the old stages. I also would have included WAY more classic-era stages. the 2D sections of the modern stages in generations just felt unnecessary to me. Jumping on the poofy clouds in Sky Sanctuary or running down the different chemical pipe tubes was something that only the 3D gameplay could have allowed. The 2D switching just kind of killed that unique experience, just to include a pseudo-classical feeling to the game when the NEW method was so much more natural and better. the first act was nothing but 2D stuff. Why does 50% of the modern stages have to consist of stuff you don't typically play modern sonic for? By that logic, while i didn't dislike the 2D sections, I dont think it's a stretch to say nobody would have cared if the entire game was modern and many would prefer it that way. InfinityAlex
I would have added more stages and Hyper Sonic, 'cuz I'm a Chakra-X fan! (I know Hyper Sonic isn't fan made.) I would also have put in more bosses and more DLC, like Aquatic Ruins as a DLC stage. Also, Special Stages in the console version and actual 3D segments in the hand-held version. TailsSena
Similar to all of you, I'd have made Modern Sonic almost entirely 3D. We didn't need 2D sections when we had an entirely separate character dedicated solely to 2D. Other than that, I'd have fleshed-out the story. That cutscene at the end of Chemical Plant was nice... Why couldn't we have that for all stages? I recall that Mike Pollock noted that his lines for the game were recorded almost a year before the game came out... I think he may have also said that there were unused lines.
InfinityAlex
Wow, he actually had a good idea... (C'mon, you know I'm joking.) But seriously, this game did lack depth. Even Colours had more to its story than: "Sonic goes through level. Sonic saves friend. Friend comments on Modern or Classic Sonic. Repeat Twice before rival needs to be fought. Boss needs to be fought. Final boss appears. (Classic Era) Sonic goes through level. Sonic saves friend. Friend comments on Modern or Classic Sonic. Repeat Twice before rival needs to be fought. Boss needs to be fought. Tailses figure out that Sonics are time travelling. /Emeralds come into plot. (Dreamcast Era) Sonic goes through level. Sonic saves friend. Friend comments on Modern or Classic Sonic. Repeat Twice before rival needs to be fought. Boss needs to be fought. Final boss appears. (Modern Era) Final boss fought and defeated. Everything goes back to normal. And, yeah, scrapping Moderns 2D sections in this game would be nice. His 3D gameplay has improved enough to stand on its own. Kessler12
I would have used 2 levels per-game, a playable shadow/Metal sonic for muitl player. Also have mecha sonic, classic knuckles and amy somewhere...
TheJeli
They had to rush the game as it is. I don't think they could do more any more levels.
DimensionWarped
Do the opposite of what Seraph said. Scratch the 3D element entirely leaving only 2D in place. Have physics that actually legitimately resemble classic physics at least for classic Sonic Leave the 3D visuals in place With 3D out of the way, there would be no pressing need for classic Sonic and modern Sonic to have different levels, so... Each game gets two distinct zones represented in one act apiece instead of two acts per zone. But the characters play through the same levels Add unlockable characters that also play through those same stages. Classic Tails and Knuckles with flight and gliding, possibly Shadow and Blaze as an alternative to modern Sonic with them doing... whatever it is that they can do to be different. Serephim
Well if we're to assume Sega would actually be able to correctly emulate the classical physics, or even classical gameplay (with multiple characters) then i'd change alot of what I said. TailsSena
Trust me, if we of all people can emulate Classic's physics, I'm sure every programmer on Sonic Team could do it if they wanted to. Problem is that they don't seem to see any reason to.
DerZocker
Sad thing is, the physics were almost good on the 3DS version but the game's so crappy >_> First it should have used levels from the GG games and second they shouldn't have made it 2D only. The 3DS is capable of so much more, but instead it's kinda half-assed. Except for the physics I'm actually quite happy with the console version except for the lack of new DLC zones
