Highwire4
Why the balls has this not been blowing up. CISPA is back and has a very real chance of passing the house vote AGAIN tomorrow. With that each and everyone of you will loose your privacy. It'll all be funneled straight to the US government without just cause or even a warrant. Less than 24 hours to help stop a bill worse than SOPA. Most of the represenatives support CISPA because of how it will benefit businesses, not people, so let your voice be heard and tell them we value our privacy. Spread these links around to anybody you can, tell them to call their represenative and pass it on, we need to get the word out and get people stepping up. You can find out your represenative's phone number here: http://cms.fightforthefuture.org/cispa/ Other links for if you want to know more about why this is a huge freaking deal. http://www.guardian.co.uk/commentisfree/2013/apr/18/cispa-2013-house-vote-internet-privacy http://www.techdirt.com/articles/20130417/16253022748/oh-look-rep-mike-rogers-wife-stands-to-benefit-greatly-cispa-passing.shtml List of those who voted yesterday to take away your privacy: http://clerk.house.gov/evs/2013/roll117.xml Seriously guys, lets get the ball rolling. Not trying to preach or anything but the freedom of the internet is in serious trouble right now. It'll effect us all. so GOGOGOGOGOGO!

OverbounD
Done. Thanks for keeping an eye on this Highwire. This is an issue that should be important to us all. Everyone take it a step further too. Post on Facebook/Google+.
GSF
Updating the recurrent "Stop <dumb law>" top bar link right now... EDIT: Done. It's just ridiculous to see how far companies and government can go in order to fuck shit up. But the internet is one thing they won't be able to fuck up. So get on it, people. Highwire4
It's the least I can do. Anonymous is really who we should be thanking. Speaking of which, they've called for an internet blackout on Monday, april 22nd in protest until Obama promises to veto CISPA. http://anoninsiders.net/cipsa-1702/ Found some other petitions as well. Share them at your disclosure: http://www.sitesnotspies.org/ https://act.demandprogress.org/sign/cispa_facebook/ http://www.saveyourprivacypolicy.org/ CISPA is pretty fucked up though. Never seen so much corruption: http://news.cnet.com/8301-13578_3-57580268-38/cispa-permits-police-to-do-warrantless-database-searches/ http://57un.wordpress.com/2013/03/11/cispa-whos-for-it-and-whos-against-it/ http://www.techdirt.com/articles/20130417/16253022748/oh-look-rep-mike-rogers-wife-stands-to-benefit-greatly-cispa-passing.shtml Until then keep signing and calling and sharing. Literally spam this shit anywhere you can.
GSF
A blackout bigger than SOPA's will surely leave an impression. I just hope that nothing happens the day after that...
TailsSena
You know what CISPA reminds me of? Socialism. Applied to the internet, of all things. Safe to say I'll be on this boat, too. Though I'm not sure I'll participate in the blackout, I'll certainly exercise restraint from using the internet.
Clouder
Too late. They passed the bill. But President Obama has said that he will veto it.
Highwire4
It still has to go through the senate as well. Plus we have to make it clear to the senate and the president that we wont tolerate this kind of affront to our liberties. This corruption is disgusting: http://reporting.sunlightfoundation.com/2013/pro-cispa-backers-spend-over-100-times-more-lobbying-opponents/ Plus what else is mind blowing is CNN's bogus coverage of boston coincided EXACTLY with when CISPA was on the house floor. Everything is against us. We got to push with everything we got.

Serephim
Just like the last one, i really doubt this is going to get through. Regardless of what anyone says about Obama, i honestly just cannot see him reneging on his promise to veto this. First of all, speaking on it shows us all that he acknowledges it. Going back on that would not only make him look terrible, but it would cause an internet worth of people to hate him for it. I seriously, seriously, seriously, really really doubt this is going anywhere. It's ridiculous even by standards of politics, and they're fooling nobody. If there's one thing you can't fuck with inconspicuously, it's the veil covering up the shit people do on the internet.
DimensionWarped
It only cost them two million dollars per vote to get it past the house. I'm sure it was all perfectly by the books of course. I mean, how hard could it possibly be to convince an elected official to pass something that no member of their electorate that isn't some kind of corporate plutocrat with aspirations of world domination supports. Highwire4
I have those hopes too but that's no reason to not do anything about it, especially considering how much effort has gone into making this sneak under the radar and make it near impossible for opposition in the house to even talk about it's flaws. The news isn't reporting on it at all. Nobody knows about this. Yeah, sure, maybe I'm freaking the fuck out a bit too much here but the internet is literally on its own with this one. We don't have big corporations backing us like we did with SOPA. I have hope that Obama will veto it but I can't even trust the government anymore. I'll calm the fuck down when CISPA is crushed
ila
Who said I'm not doing anything about it? I called my representative and actually had a nice chat with him about his intention to vote no. Then I called him up later today and left a message with his receptionist with a lovely voice and thanked him again for his vote. Then I sent an email to my senators. Also sent out a few tweets and then ate some leftover Chinese food. What I didn't do was down too many 5 Hour Energies, link to a group who insists on referring to President Obama as "DronObama" and a bunch of biased tech blogs in a dire panic and write large walls of text on a tiny message board about how the world is out to get us. I've already done my research, but if I haven't and I came across this topic today, I would have thought you had gone mentally hilarious. Part of getting your arguments across is coming off as a sensible, reasonable person. Right now you are not doing that.

I mean, how hard could it possibly be to convince an elected official to pass something that no member of their electorate that isn't some kind of corporate plutocrat with aspirations of world domination supports. Gotta admit, my ignorance on this kind of shit makes me highly cynical. Nearly every large company with a known name, regardless of business type, supports this bill. Everyone who you'd think shouldn't support this bill supports this bill. Which in my mind just says they all have something significant to gain from it. The people who should be 100% on top of protecting privacy are supporting a bill that effectively destroys it. I'm guessing since privacy is such a huge and growing issue these days, being able to shift the job to the US Government and hold some bitch position of zero liability is something these companies refuse to pass up. Every company on earth saves their own asses, Government gets more power, sprinkle your own layer of conspiracy agenda shit, now everyone wins except the people who dont, which unfortunately happens to be everyone who isn't physically pushing for this bill I'm scared about this bill passing because it's fucking stupid. But i'm not terribly concerned about it passing because, its fucking stupid. I'm gonna call and try and chat with more of these guys over the phone, but in the end every fucker in a high dollar suit wants this to pass. I hear Facebook once supported this and then backed off after the shitstorm that ensued. Im sure they still masturbate to the idea though. It's the least I can do. Anonymous is really who we should be thanking. Ah-ha, really? After countless pizzas, rape threats, months Single Player PS3 and Encyclopedia Dramatica, i really don't see how anyone takes these kids and their "internet heroism" fuckshit seriously. I guess their attention-grabbing nature is good for this cause though.
