Spanner
Since the SAGE forum isn't up yet, I guess I'll just post my thing here. Considering that a screenshot and a video has caused a lot of reactions in the screenshot thread, I've decided to make a topic out of this to prevent things from clogging up. Why is this hack being created? The idea for this hack came when I wanted to do something for the hacking contest which didn't involve innuendo special stages and a slideshow that you've probably seen and had to bleach your eyes after viewing. So, why don't I take the piss out of Dimps! We all know how bad Dimps are with Sonic games, such as placing speed boosters everywhere for no reason other to hide their shitty physics. As well as that, their latest game Sonic the Hedgehog 4 has caused a lot of fuss with their choice of objects too as well as poor physics, dust and a lot of other stuff. Features: Here is what has been implemented in the game so far: - Freshly programmed speed boosters which will be in every level (except Sky Chase Zone since the level is played on top of the Tornado). - Homing Attack which can be abused just like Sonic 4 forces you to. - The Sonic 4 version of the spikeless Bubbles badnik, available in Metropolis Zone Act 3 in this release in an area where you will be forced to rebound off them or die. - Sonic only gameplay (The removal of Tails as a playable character was actually because Tails' VRAM space is used for the dash pads) - A botched up soundtrack, much like Jun Senoue's soundtrack in Sonic the Hedgehog 4. - Boss theme replaced with a port of the Sonic 3D unused track which is being used as a boss theme for Sonic 4. - A few physics tweaks to dumb down the game. - Title screen menu removed (no point for 2P mode and the options menu). - Misplaced sound effects for a few things. Screenshots: For more information, including the download, videos and credits, click here. As Ken Balough would say, this is truly Sonic the Hedgehog 2 as you imagined it. Spanner
Am I the only one who isn't laughing? Looks like you skipped the hundreds of users complaining about Dimps around the community. It's only a joke, lighten up. I bet CPZ is going to be dashpad hell. XD Zones after that are dashpad hell too.
Cyber Rat
Based on the videos: If you wanted to make a parody, I honestly think you should have used more dashpads to make it feel as "on-rails" as possible. For example, in the Casino Night Zone, you missed a lot of opportunities to put a dashpad, but then stacked 7 or 8 right before the boss fight. And why no dashpads during boss fights? Honestly, that would be awesome in my opinion. By the way, I don't know much about hacks, but would it have been possible to increase Sonic's max speed? Forgive me if I sound upset, but I just don't find botching a game because "it's just like dimps makes ololol" to be funny.

Spanner
Just a note, there will be a bugfix release fixing a few issues that the current build has. A few issues have already been noted and fixed, with more still to come.

A few issues have already been noted and fixed, with more still to come. And here I was thinking this hack would be faithful to the Dimps model. Aerosol
Dimps Edition? Oh come off it. Putting dash pads everywhere doesnt make it "just like Dimps". It makes it irritating and obnoxious, considering Sonic 2 levels are designed in the opposite way Dimps designs their levels. I don't want to be sent careening into the air in places I normally wouldn't. Going vertically airborne is decidedly un-Dimps. I hope you're making changes to the levels to accomodate the dash-pad bonanza. I guess I'm just not getting the funny here.
Sparks
I hope you're making changes to the levels to accomodate the dash-pad bonanza.I'm pretty sure they are. They even added Bubbles and Homing Attack!!
Aerosol
Homing attack doesn't make a bad game. I'm actually pretty sure I hated having to manually bounce on enemies to get somewhere in the original games, so I welcome the homing attack. But that's just my opinion. Point is, putting dash pads everywhere doesn't automatically make it LOL DIMPS.
Sparks
I was implying they did more than just add boosters >:
Spike
Even after reading the big list of what's different, all I really notice is that dashpads are everywhere.

Funny thing is, Iizuka told the Dimps level designers to go for Sonic 2-like level design for Sonic 4 and look at what they did. Classic Dimps. =P
Serephim
the issue with the sonic games are simple, they just dont have the talent of the old teams. And are apparently just incompetent as well. I dont disapprove of this hack, but i dont understand where the hatred of it is coming from
Aerosol
It's not hatred. It's criticism. If this is a bash of Dimps, it needs more than just dashpads. If anything, adding a boost button with matching graphics instead of throwing dashpads everywhere makes it more like Dimps. And Iizuka can tell them to "go for Sonic 2 like levels" till the cows come home. If they can't do that, they can't do that. Period. You're not about to tell me that a single of their levels so far look anything like Sonic 2, even without their dashpads.
Sparks
Aerosol you're taking this way too seriously dude
Aerosol
Because I want a boost button, or a speed break type function like in sadv2. Boosters does not equal Dimps, and it just seems like a cop out. It'd be far more impressive if there were a boost button. Maybe I've just been spoiled on some of the more technical hacks, but this seems like a pointless bastardization of a classic game based on a misinterpreted assessment of Dimps' attempts. Guarantee you that if sadv2 had less boosters and still retained the hyper speed function, or if sonic rush had less boosters and still retained the boost button, it'd be those functions being parodied. I think, in fact, that it should be parodying those functions, not the level devices that facilitated the abuse of those functions. If ya'll think I'm taking this too seriously, feel free to ignore me. I am entitled to my opinion, though.
Steven M
Aerosol you're taking this way too seriously dude Pretty much this. The hack's just a megabyte of SonicEpsilon going "HEY GUYS DIMPS SUCKS AM I COOL YET", don't get overanalytical about it.
