DJ espeed
Hello all. I've only shown my drawings to a few people, and I think it's time I put some stuff on here. Here, I try my hand at sketching the 458 Italia, using this image as a reference. Note that I'm not trying to copy the reference photo. The angle I'm using is a little higher. Forgive me for the crappy photo quality, I drew this on paper and I don't have a scanner to scan the drawing. I am a bit of a Ferrari person, even though I'm not even rich enough to own one of my own. At best, all I have is a little fixer-upper 1988 Mercedes 190E 2.3. Back to the subject at hand, when they unveiled the new 2010 Ferrari 458 last year, I was just so amazed. The design of the car was just so fantastic, curvy, and pretty radical. I tried drawing this car many a time, but I think this is the best I've done as of far. It's pretty hard trying to translate such an elegant design to the paper and graphite medium from a press photo.
DJ espeed
I love my Forza, and I love mah carz. vroom vroomz! So, I tinkered around with making my 2006 Lotus Exige look like the prideful UK car it is! It's still a work in progress.
Aerosol
That's a pretty neat sketch! I can't draw cars for the life of me, but I've always tried. Forza Motorsport has a user-created skinning option? I didn't know about that!
DJ espeed
Thanks, lol. Forza has had a livery editor since the first iteration. It's a pretty neat feature and there are people who can create some pretty kickass stuff with it, be it portraits or near-realistic recreations of real racing livery. DJ espeed
Hello again, all. Here, I have tinkered a bit more in Forza liveries. This one is quite simple. I added some black vinyl decals to my precious Corvette C6, to give it a cool-racecar look. It's still in the works as of this post. I plan on adding some other custom vinyl and manufacturer decals to this to finish it up. My Lotus is done at this point, but I've been too lazy to make space for it on my FM.net profile. DJ espeed
Good evening. I've done some more work on the C6 Z06 I showed in the last post. It's nothing as cool as the official racing liveries themselves, I think they're cool. And here's my finished Lotus.
DJ espeed
I translated my Z06's design to the C6.R itself. Came out great. Edit (29-10-2011) The first pic somehow changed to Modern Vampire. WTF? So I removed it.

DimensionWarped
Damn you, thanks to your thread here, I got mentally derailed and spent 3 hours tonight trying to figure out what my first car should be.

DimensionWarped
Actually, I was mostly just going to tell you that covering imaginary cars with imaginary stickers and stencils doesn't really qualify as art, but I had a change of heart and decided to look at something I'd been putting off instead. At the end of it all, I think I'm going to keep putting it off.
DJ espeed
Actually, I was mostly just going to tell you that covering imaginary cars with imaginary stickers and stencils doesn't really qualify as art... Sure, it's not art in the traditional sense, but I see the cars (which I assume you mean imaginary in the 'I don't have enough money to have this in real life, so I have it in a racing game' sense) and the livery editor as a creativity tool in the same way a painter sees the canvas and paints. If you don't think it's art, I wouldn't hold it against you. Be that as it may, 'imaginary' cars and stickers are my medium, and I think, to some extent, it is art. ...but I had a change of heart and decided to look at something I'd been putting off instead. At the end of it all, I think I'm going to keep putting it off. Alright. Let me ask you this: Even though it does not qualify as art to you, would you rather this be in the General Discussion subforum or here?
DJ espeed
I've been working on some designs for a custom Vewlix clone I'm making. The first two are sidepanel designs. Got some rough measurements of what I want to cut. Here, I've taken the above design and smoothed it out some. Here's a control panel design I've been working on. Ristar
Actually, I was mostly just going to tell you that covering imaginary cars with imaginary stickers and stencils doesn't really qualify as art Disagree! If there's one thing I learned from my art degree it's that once you display something in an artistic context (such as an art gallery or art forum) its meaning can be interpreted in a completely different way. I've seen a rubix cube covered in gay porn, a bicycle next to a clear box containing mouldy bread and a picture of a vagina stretched across a huge wall. In my opinion this is as much a piece of art as the gayporncube is
Serephim
art a matter of opinion, and as such everything and nothing counts as art. ....technically, anyway. If he views customizing his videogame cars as art, then it's art. No different than us rearranging sonic the hedgehog sprites into fangames, anyway. Rawr
That's a pretty neat sketch! I can't draw cars for the life of me, but I've always tried.! quoting an old post because it is relevant to me too. I'm sure if I sat down and learned to draw one it'd be alright but I also am pretty bad at drawing cars haha. Anyway those are some interesting blueprints/concepts, but I have no clue what it is. I have no clue what a Vewlix is, and while I'm sure I could look it up on google, I figure it'd be just as appropriate to ask seeing as you've got it in this thread
DJ espeed
Let's just say that I'm an arcade nut. The Vewlix is a candy cab (a Japanese arcade cabinet) made by Taito. They're fairly popular among custom cabinet builders. I wanted to build one for MAME and for when SSFIVAE comes out [on Steam as I have it preordered]. Personally, I've wanted to make it kinda

EDIT: Of course, Steve Martin would probably argue that among these things, only the gayporncube is art. On the other hand, he can't quite tell what the difference between what he calls fine art and a paint swatch is, so screw him.

DJ espeed
You know i read Ristar's post but i never really read it.That's amazing. Indeed. Oh nice. Good luck with that then! Should be cool to see your progress on it. Thanks dude. I'm hoping to get this project done before winter rolls around. I just need to get the doors done and get the base of the cabinet assembled (I promise pics will be up when I get it assembled). Then I can get onto the hairy business that is the side panels and other parts. So... I've been modeling my cabinet in Google Sketchup, and I've included most everything except what'll go inside the cabinet itself (such as speakers, a PC/game console, etc) and the control panel. DJ espeed
Bump. So, in regards to the Vewlix, I have good and bad news. I'll start off with the bad news. I'm abandoning the project for the sake of time and materials. I constructed the base, which is good. However, I used plywood instead of MDF plywood. This is not best for an arcade cabinet. As such, I am adapting this for a driving cockpit project I have been putting off. Good news? I just saved a whole bunch of money on my car insurance by switching to Geico! Nah, I keed, peeps. I know the joke is overused. Seriously, the good news is that I will be restarting the project next year so I can restart with the right materials. On to other things. I recently got my copy of Forza 4 and started getting into the game's photo mode. I've already messed around with the photo mode and took some pics. I'll be uploading more as I shoot 'em, and I'll be posting the choice ones over here. For my newer photos, check out my gallery on the MyForza section of forzamotorsport.net. DJ espeed
Some silly spontaneous idea I had. I just had an idea for the five frames (left all the speech bubbles empty on purpose), but I couldn't capture all of it. No, I do not have a scanner or a tablet. But hey, I tried and got most of it. The premise is that this character is bored, in his room, and is listening to the radio. He hears something that excites him (i.e., his favorite "A-List" musician is performing), but then ultimately is disheartened and angry when he hears something that prevents him from viewing whatever it was that excited him. Flaria Icaria
I like the idea sketch of the short comic for those who have bad days. Lol. I like to see more of variety besides the car sketch that I'm drooling on. Yes, DROOL puddle of mess.
