DimensionWarped
For now, the concept storm is an experiment. Depending on how successful it is, it may stick around. So what is it? Well, to put it simply, it's a community activity. Each month, starting on the first (excluding this one, where we start on the Fourth), a new theme will be introduced. From that theme, everyone is encouraged to contribute basically anything they can think of. Ideas come first. Whether it's a method for doing something neat, a gimmick, an enemy, a doodad, an effect, or anything else (so long as it relates to the theme), it's fair grounds for adding to the monthly storm. Artwork is especially welcome whether its in the form of drawings or paintings of scenes based around the theme, game art (sprites, models, textures, etc) which fit the theme, or whatever other assets. Tangible examples of the concept in action within a game are of course good too. How does it work? At the beginning of the month, the existing topic will be locked for discussion and a new one will be put up. The first post will state the theme and some ideas related to that theme and those will be open for discussion. At the same time, a banter thread will be open for people to talk about branching ideas that aren't fully developed. When you have what you consider to be a fully developed idea or something else worth showing (like the aforementioned artworks and demonstrations), make a request for it. This isn't an open discussion board. Your topic will have to be approved. Once it is approved, your sub-concept will be given a topic and then you'll be free to direct the discussion of that topic. Near the end of the month, if there hasn't been a special theme already picked for the following month, we'll open a proposal thread for the next month's concept and one will be selected from the pool. If you have any questions as to how this works, post them in response to this topic. All ideas presented by anyone in the concept storm are free to use (so don't share if you want to keep something it to yourself). All artwork not specifically noted as not being free to use put into a concept thread will be assumed free for use as well. The idea is to expand community resources as well as create an idea-base for projects.
OverbounD
This is an excellent idea. I was actually thinking about creating a gimmick idea thread much in the same way we have a thread for level names. However this takes that idea and expands it much much more so I really support this.
OverbounD
Judging from the participation you could probably switch topics every 2 weeks. But I think the idea worked well.
Asuma
Maybe would could have like a topic proposal where we throw out idea ( with detail) and which ever DW two likes, we vote on it or something. Just tossing up ideas. For instance, a nice follow up to this could be dynamic weather systems (tornadoes, duststorms, etc). Maybe we could have traps as a theme. DimensionWarped
I've actually been trying to start a proposal topic for the last couple days. I have a couple stock themes picked and I'll listen to whatever suggestions. I'll be posting that topic as soon as I get around to it.
Dan
Why were the other topics removed? Can they be found anywhere?
