I realize you mean those things that started becoming SEGA's answer to all of gimmicks once Sonic Heroes took off. Honestly, it's beyond piss easy to make. YSpeed = 0, XSpeed = some value depending on the direction and power of the ring. badda bing badda boom. Play a cheesy sound effect and set the player to the spring state or something and you are set.
