  1. Well, while you can use almost any engine for any kind of game, I haven't seen many strategy games that use the Unreal Engine, so it might not be suitable for that. Have a look on the UDK Forums as there are some example source codes for RPG's, adventure games etc available.
  2. I hate to sound negative towards anyone that works with SGDK (there seem to be so few) but it doesn't seem like much progress has been made. Everybody has made a woodland type area with the UDK assets at some time, but it is certainly not enough to then say you are making a full game. My advice? Wait until you have at least one level complete, show it off, then try and get assistance. It seems to be a recurring trend with SGDK teams to promise a full game, until they realise the monumental work that is required and it fades to dust. Make sure what you are proposing is actually feasible, given your resources.
  3. This is, unfortunatly, a rather rare issue with loops. I very rarely encounter it, so it's hard to find them all. I'l look into this one, thanks. Out of interest, what kind of spec is your computer? What kind of FPS are you getting? Which graphical setting? By controls, if you mean the annoying combination of mouse for the menus and keyboard / gamepad for the gameplay, there's nothing I can do until the menu is replaced. Considering I know nothing about Flash / Scaleform, this is one of the last jobs in the project.
  4. Some footage of the fourth level in the game. What do you think? WIP.
  5. Yeah, it is seriously lacking detail. I wanted to get the base down before I started making it pretty. Which it will in time The lower route is, at the moment, paced slower than the top route while being a little more open.
  6. If you miss, you fall down to the "lower" route. You can see an example of this at 1:20 in the video. However, that route is not finished, which explains why the ground is sparse close to the end of the video. There are some opportunities to come back to the top route if you explore.
  7. Thanks! The aim was a "first level" kind of feel, so I wanted to make it a little more linear than I normally would. There are quite a few hidden things, if you take the time out to look for them... I'l continue work on it, whenever I get the chance. Sonic Incursion is still my main focus.
  8. A while ago, I started work on this 3D level in Sonic GDK. It was just for fun, and I started it because I was a little tired of Incursion at the time. I recently opened it up and worked on it a little more, and you can see the level itself below. It's the first level of a hypothetical "cartoony" Sonic game. I don't know when, or even if I finish it and release it, but I thought you might like to see it.
  9. Very nice. It's visually striking, the music is fantastic and it's refreshingly original. I really don't mean to insult you, but do you know how to use Kismet? You can do some really cool things with lighting or changing materials when you use it. Considering what you have shown off of your levels, I bet you could put it to great use. Keep it up!
  10. SGDK has included rankings for some time. I saw the video you uploaded and it looks like an old version of SGDK. Here you can download the newest version http://www.indiedb.com/games/sonicgdk
  11. If I wasn't already working on Sonic Incursion, I would offer my services. That being said, I'd say I know a thing or two about Sonic GDK and would help you / your level designer with any problems you might have.
  12. Sorry for the double post, just a small update. Progress is still going strong. Sometime in the near future, I'l upload a video of a new level. In the meantime...
  13. So...has anybody else had a chance of giving it a go?
  14. This is an excellent post, and I've highlighted this part for truth. When you are playing your level, you know it inside out, so you will be completing it very quickly. If you can't complete your level safely in under 2-3 minutes, then you need to rethink the size.
  15. Well, I've never worked with Sonic Worlds, so I have no idea if the test tiles are appropriate. If they suit your needs, I'd suggest using them, just so you can make your level playable. You can make it prettier and more complicated afterwards, and as well, you will know exactly what tiles you need to make when you do it this way.
  16. This may not be much help, but I have very rarely drawn a level design out. In the case of Sonic Incursion, I know the theme, and I have some gimmicks drawn / thought out and what kind of speed you can expect to achieve when I first begin. Then I just start. I make it as though I'm playing the game, and I stop every few minutes and play it, to see if it is fun. In terms of the multiple routes, as I'm making and playing, I think "Should there be a branch here? A hidden goodie? Go fast here, or slow down?". This approach hasn't really come back to bite me, so it's the way I will continue to work. It worked wonders with Sonic 1 Alt. I do suggest having a few gimmick ideas down on paper before you start. This will help you to make specific sections that cater to your gimmicks. My approach is very informal, so it might not work for you.
  17. Yes, the gameplay is completely 2D. I'm more confident with making 2D level designs. I guess the Mobians just like to party all day as well as all night? Seriously though, daytime fireworks aren't unheard of, yet they do look different to 'traditional' ones. Thanks for the input!
  18. Hi all. I'd like to present the fangame I am working on, named Sonic: Incursion. It is a 2.5D game, powered by UDK and made possible with Xaklse's SGDK codebase. I have been working on this for one year and I have made significant progress. In addition to sporting 2D gameplay, the third act of every zone is smaller, but focused on a specific gimmick. For example, the first zone has a segment reminicient of Sky Chase Zone, the second has a small exploration puzzle. There is a demo available, which has the first zone fully playable. I hope you can download it and give it a go, I'd love to hear your thoughts. Alternatively, there is some gameplay footage of Sunkissed Shore Zone Act 1. Screenshots. Please note, some of these are already out of date.
