  1. Same as others, I respect the Beatles however I'm just not too keen on their work. Does the Electric Light Orchestra count? Jeff Lynne is a genius.
  2. Framed Legacy? I simply don't understand why the pirate genre is so massively overlooked in the gaming industry, now we had some ideas! There's so many nostalgic names here, people I havn't spoken to in so long and have completely forgotten about. It was nice to see some people mention me, I'm still about every so often, always happy to chat on AIM if you can catch me on there. I'm definately going to try to post more. Juggling a variety of fun projects at the moment, some of which may never see the light of day, some of which may do soon and I'm damn proud of. ;D And Kasei Honoo? Name doesn't ring any bells! I got demodded in my absence! But I still lurk!
  3. Ristar Do you still draw dude? I used to love your work, especially that Tokyo Sonic I think it was.
  4. I joined November 02 I think and lurked for a little bit beforehand so around seven years now.
  5. Hoj: Spain was great thanks, and this'll probably be the updates thread for now, i'll try to keep updating anyway. :E Damizean: I know I forgot! I don't know how you live in that heat though. ;P P3DR0: Same as Lark, didn't know what you meant till I fiddled with the monitor, unless you were on about something else? Lark: Ah I see what you mean, will have a mess with those in a bit. Thanks for that. Overbound: Glad you noticed that cause it's pretty much what I was intending. Myeou: Yeah I drew nearly all of it if that's what you mean. Cheers for the comments guys.
  6. I've been delayed slightly with trying to get 360 at SAGE after a recent trip to Spain, and beforehand deciding to yet again overhaul the graphics, for the last time though! Casino Bay: Aqua Shrine: Rainbow Relic: Magma Hollow: Polar Fields Secret 6th Zone! I've also done a switch from my engine to Worlds, there's no point in me constantly trying to make better engines when Worlds is already far better than anything I could create. Doesn't half speed up progress too and to be honest makes the project a whole lot more enjoyable to be making. Any suggestions and such are very welcome, especially on Rainbow Relic or Magma Hollow, I'm not too happy with the look of those yet.
  7. Being English I was honestly expecting this list to be even worse and to be populated entirely by GTA, Fifa and Need for Speed. These games are pretty much just forced upon the public by the shops we have. My local game shop has never actually had a copy of Street Fight IV in and I pre-ordered that months before it was released, yet they managed to order in enough copies of 50 Cents new game to fill the new release shelf... genius.
  8. Penny Arcade and Dinosaur Comics are all I read now, occasionally check Buttersafe and Perry Bible Fellowship, never bother with CAD nowadays though, not sure if I just lost interest or Tims writing really has gone to shit, either way I don't find it funny anymore. =/
  9. Cheers for the comments everyone, will take everything said into consideration. Fixed up the screw gimmick, it's amazing how often I don't notice I have things the wrong way round. I dunno if anyone remembers that old Hydrocity demo but I played that recently and found I had the parallax all backwards. ;P Gonna do a major rework of Polar Fields as soon as I can also. And the spiders do suicide for now, however it's for a good reason! It's temporary until I can be bothered to add a little chase movement once they land on the ground, perhaps with a timed detonation and the ability to leap and grab hold of Sonic. Steven M: I'm quite happy with the colouring on the Casino Bay background, I do know what you mean though and plan on changing Rainbow Runway. Streak: Theres no active objects there, the lava is made to fall via a looping Y movement instead of an animation.
  10. http://s237.photobucket.com/albums/ff205/josephwaters/360/?action=view&current=MagmaHollow.flv Got a delicious video of magma hollow so far, as you can see by the end of the video its not all finished yet. Thought i'd post a quick update on how things are going and such now that i've got all the basic zone designs. Zone 1 - Casino Bay: Zone 2 - Aqua Shrine: Zone 3 - Rainbow Runway: Zone 4 - Magma Hollow: Zone 5 - Polar Fields: Zone 6 - Iron Wing: ...and Zone 7 is a secret for now. Still not finished with the Polar Fields or Iron Wing backgrounds so any comments or ideas and such are welcome.
  11. Okay so I finished up the final colouring, quite happy with it now.
  12. Glad the new design is preferred, have been experimenting with the background colours: I think I actually like the first the most, any thoughts?
  13. Haha, I must be one of few lucky people who didn't have any trouble with the barrel when I was younger. A mate of mine has never actually played Ice Cap just cause he could never do Carnival Night, he couldn't believe it when I told him. ;P And don't worry about nitpicking Lark, I'm a bit of a perfectionist myself so it's all good. And thanks for clearing up Mr. Cod Rael, and since I've been working on the Casino Bay background again I'm gonna try to incorporate the balloons somehow into the level more. Not sure how as of yet but I like the idea of involving the boss. This is what i've been messing with so far, nothings final as of yet (mainly the far background, there's too much city for my liking atm) but it's the general feel I want the level to have. It's hard mixing a casino and a bay together. :E Nitpick away!
  14. Didn't expect such a response so fast. Cyber Rat: I have been considering giving Casino Bay a make over, when I came up with Aqua Shrine and Magma Hollow I sort of thought they made it look a bit crap. I've just been avoiding it for now as I don't want to change the level layout for it again so I'll need to sprite everything to fit with the old tiles. I do intend on doing this though at some point. Zenor: Good spot with the parralax. That was me getting lazy. Would you say it's overly obvious though and I should adjust one or two of them? Azu: Hydrocity is gone for the sake of having original zones. I do intend on bringing back another classic zone instead, thats a secret for now though. Rael: It has been ages since I last spoke to you come to think of it. Theres plenty of new stuff that'll need testing soon though. ;P And the tiles for Aqua Shrine I made for Aerosol ages ago, he sent me them the other day and said he doesn't think he'll use them. Wasn't gonna let them go to waste. Diablo: I know. It's only the graphical stylings that's advance styled however, gameplay wise I've tried to keep it as classic as possible. I'm hoping i've pulled it off. Thanks for all the other comments people.
  15. I had a little mess with it myself, feel free to use it if you like however it's entirely up to you.
  16. Looks good to me, other than the few shading errors you mentioned the only thing that really stands out to me is the feet seem to suddenly appear and disappear where as they should look like they're coming out from under the character. Shouldn't be too hard to adjust that though. I like it otherwise.
  17. ....Again. =O I hadn't actually planned on posting any of this for a while as I kinda got sick of announcing projects then losing interest in them. (Don't worry Retro XG is fine.) However after a certain Blazefire began IM'ing me last night saying he had spotted them on my photo bucket and was asking about it, I decided it would probably be best to post what I've been up to. I'm being far more reasonable with the game this time aiming more to complete a plausible sized game for one person to create in his spare time, each zone has a single act and a boss, with hopefully eight zones. (I"m aiming for eight, we shall see how it goes however as I'm more intent on actually finishing it than making it a long game.) Zone 1: Casino Bay Zone 2: Aqua Shrine Zone 3: Rainbow Runway Zone 4: Magma Hollow Comments and such very welcome, I'm gonna try to keep updating this thread with any progress whenever I can.
  18. Poor picture, but I am the piratey gentleman on the left.
  19. hRooks method would work, however I find it easier to make the checkpoint a global object that upon colliding with has an alterable value set to 1. Then store the x position, y position and time in the applications global values. Using this method any checkpoints that have been hit can be activated at the start of the frame via the alterable value, and the global values will always have stored the position of the most recently hit checkpoint. Just make sure you reset the alterable values at the end of the frame. ;O
  20. Okay I redid what was there, hopefully you understand it, if not, just use the code anyway. I don't mind. Magnetize2.mfa
  21. http://s237.photobucket.com/albums/ff205/josephwaters/?action=view&current=SMKClip-1.flv Updated with a teaser video! I apologise for the lack of sound, I am a tad lazy. ;P
  22. I am actually finding it more fun to make than Sonic, since you can do anything a bit mental and it works just 'cause it's Mario. I've pretty much no knowledge of Mario other than playing it once or twice and watching a few videos so its more how I want it to play, rather than an exact clone. Hopefully it'll be taken well! Tiny Mario!
  23. Appreciate the comments, some screens of work atm: Scary stuff.
  24. Not normally! I decided to try something a bit different from my typical plundering antics.
