  1. Good job at completely missing the point. You're always like this; you only got 1 side of the bed to wake out of labelled 'wrong' or something?
  2. Yeh, I thought I'd address this. A lot of the reason that the viewable area of older games are just due to technical limitations. Sure, you could make shit smaller, but at the cost of detail. Here and now, 20 years later, having a low resolution 'just because that's the way it's been done' (even up to DS/3DS titles) is a crock of shit, in my opinion. Level design is subject to how much you can see, true, but that doesn't mean seeing less is always better. As fast as Sonic (or whoever) goes, larger viewing distance and levels designed to take advantage of it is definitely a refreshing change, even if it's not the norm. It has a lot to do with reaction time; the same reason 60fps is so crucial to games of this sort, i.e. f u xbox/ps3/'modern' indsutry standard of 30fps.
  3. terrible level music you should fire the guy who made it
  4. Regarding 'diluting', that's a natural function of particles in the air, and I was wondering how it'd look if the far background was purple, and anything in between (i.e. the stalagmite layer) was something in between purple and blue, to suggest that the air in the cave has hints of purple smog from something. Then again the game is supposed to nail the retro look with a limited color palette so I dunno. D:
  5. The FMOD extension isn't anywhere near complete last I looked (granted, years ago) Also .
  6. I thought making Sonic 2006 -was- the mistake
  7. As to why, once upon a time I found out I had Quicktime installed. That's why I uninstall software.
  8. Eh, that's a surprise! I want to say SEGA is one of the companies who actually -like- their fans but *coughSORcough*. Fingers crossed!
  9. All about context. In some respects, the above is true. Without meaning to shamelessly plug, if I hadn't pushed through with what I thought was a musical direction to go for, BTS may either have been simply left as it was, or had a VOPM/chiptune/retro-ish new soundtrack. As it was, I -knew- what I was going for and I stuck by my guns despite quite a few people yelling heresy (wobble and orchestrals in a retro, pixellated fangame?) Listening to feedback has its merits, don't get me wrong. Equating the current situation, with its history of the Lilac cycle, to the reprobates on DeviantArt, on the other hand, is pretty much as strawman as it gets. Like I said, all about context. That being said, I'm glad Strife has picked a direction and moved with it. Being stagnated by indecision is far worse.
  10. You done putting the "straw" in "strawman" just about yet?
  11. I phrased this another way over at retro but honestly speaking at this point the only opinions that should matter are yours, and SEGA's (and Ziyo Ling's but I understand the recent issue there) You started out wanting to make a platforming tribute to Sonic. Changing that now after gaining so much exposure is just asking to sell yourself short and possibly open you up to even more drastic feedback when people figure out they can influence the game to be what they want it to be, rather than what its creator wants it to be.
  12. Fmod or Wwise integration. Preferably Wwise because it's far more powerful. Oh my god. YEAH I JUST HAD TO GET THAT OFF MY CHEST, I'LL GO BACK QUIETLY TO MY CORNER NOW.
  13. KgZ received the e-mail, not me! Ultigonio: Sure thing; I'd love to take a listen.
  14. I just started thinking of ATS stuff a couple of days ago after taking a break for college finals (... 'taking a break for college finals', good lord) and comparing my plans from back then while working on BTS to what's still feasible now. I originally wanted to open up ATS to as many people as possible as a training camp of sorts and to promote more exchange of ideas between musicians since I personally felt that that was something that was lacking compared to graphic artists and musicians just seemed to... tend to be a little more competitive/isolated in general. There are a couple of factors that have made me re-think a few things: 1) I never thought BTS soundtrack would have gotten the unanimously positive reaction it did. When even Jun Senoue e-mails with praise, there's quite a bit of pressure for ATS soundtrack to raise the bar. D: 2) All four of us that worked on BTS are gonna work on ATS too. This is a slightly different situation from when it was Andy and I and we were looking to pull in more. 3) There are a couple of people whose compositions have inspired Lake to make certain zones. One has already replied that he's in. Along with 2) and the danger that 'too many cooks spoil the broth', it's getting harder and harder to accommodate more people. The last thing I want to do is turn ourselves into some kind of elite club, because after all we're all still a fan community and I still would like to accommodate, though, but do understand the bar is really, really high right now (higher than even I'm comfortable with, tbh but them's the breaks) so if I feel you won't make the cut, I'm going to have to say so; please don't take it personally.
  15. Don't get me wrong, a Chinese localization has practical use in other regions that aren't complete toxic dogshit (Hong Kong, quite a few parts of SEA, etc) but so many people, even many big companies make the mistake of saying 'oh my god they have 55 trillion people we definitely will turn a profit there' only to get burnt in the ass. The few that actually do profit either have ways to enforce monetization of their IP and/or have deep enough pockets to be able to hold their nose and not care. But even then you end up with hilarious shit like this.
  16. Just name the Japanese translation "Flying Raccoon Hat Gaijin Adventure: It's Enjoy Time Now?" edit: I don't mean to be rude or racist but there's honestly not much commercial point in trying to localize for China. Unless you want a dozen asset-rip bootlegs. edit2: Actually I did mean to be racist there.
  17. integrated ingame online scoreboard you nincompoop also downloadable run data for shadow racing etc
  18. O lawdy, a sonic-styled game without spindash; competitive speedrunning is going to be fresh for a good while.
  19. whatwhatwhatwhat noooooooooooooooooooooo
  20. Answering that would probably spoil some things in ATS. But no, they won't go to waste.
  21. That's what I was initially using; after 8 attempts and only 2 successful uploads, I swapped to mp32tube, watermarks be damned. To be very honest I'm not exactly fond of youtube for music in the first place just due to quality concerns (people ripping mp3s off youtube videos -> reuploading -> reencoding mp3s -> WHEN WILL THIS LOSSY MADNESS END) but I guess I figured doing it myself and having an 'official' channel would help curb that... to some extent, anyway. It's been a mad couple of weeks. I'd really like to say that the other dudes more than pulled their weight. All three offered to step in and help past their initial zone features during periods of sheer crunch time and/or writer's block. Some misc dirty laundry trivia: - Last two level tracks to be wrapped up were Titanic Tower Act 2 (which Pejman really, really did pour his heart into) and Cloudy Crowd 2 (which I had sitting half-finished for a couple of weeks after me screwing up an SSD OS ghost left me needing to reinstall my DAW... and my 120GB++ of sample libraries ughhhh) both being checked in on August 4th (lol) - Rocky Ride 3 took 15 minutes give or take, not counting the time it took later on during the OST mastering stage for volume/balance/etc. - I have 6 special stage tracks in various stages of completion. D: Oops. (In the end I figured it'd be best to just keep all special stages as-is rather than go half-and-half) - I spent wa-aaay more time on the ~20 sec intro cutscene music than I should have. It was completely rewritten no less than two times. The second iteration was a remix of the splash screen/main theme. Until I realized -that- plays immediately after and just plain sounded stupid when put together :V - Many of the musical ideas in Star Shores boss were actually from a concept piece I threw together for Metro Madness boss to originally pitch this '12 special edition to LakeFeperd, i.e. it's technically the earliest piece of music written for this version.
  22. Man, I understand from a music industry perspective why Youtube doesn't have an easy way to upload MP3s, but good God I feel like slashing my wrists right now.
