  1. Hopefully this never carries over into Canada. I think there was one guy in the government at one point that said that as long as photocopiers are around, music downloading is legal. I forget who said that though, its been a while since I've seen the article (years ago). Either way, this blows.
  2. Hmm, that song sounds really familiar. What band is that =D? Anyway, looking real good so far but as stated the enemies need something a little more to do. I also noticed, and maybe it is just the video, moments where the sprite animations seemed...'slow'. Not sure how to really explain it. Maybe choppy would be a better word? That being said the level graphics look really cool and I like the HUD you have.
  3. Well, I was just giving off ideas of what I would perhaps be doing. Right now I haven't put too much thought into gimmicks ^^. I'm going to once I get a little further, I'm just trying to generate ideas for them. I'll definitely keep that in mind though once I get more things done =D. Thanks =D
  4. Oh cool, I'll have to try and make a HUD then. It can be ANY style right? I'll have to start thinking about what I want to make.
  5. Thanks a lot Cstyler =D. Also, thanks for the critique there on the music. I don't know if I mentioned it up above that they were all demo tracks or not. I know that the volume levels on the tracks are way off, and will be re-doing the main melody of Icicle Island's theme. As for the background sounds being strings - I guess technically they might be, but that is actually my guitar xD. I never used any midi or synth stuff other than the EZ Drummer program for the tracks. I just used a bunch of effects from my mixing board and mixed it with effects from my guitar. I'll definitely be fixing up volumes and whatnot ASAP, and re-recording Icicle Island's main melody is going to happen somewhere down the line. Thanks again for the critique again. I too, also am unhappy with Icicle Island but it was the first of the three tracks I got to recording and I didn't know exactly where I wanted to go musically xD. That and I've never really done music for a game before, so it was first =). Hopefully future tracks will be a bit tighter in terms of musical quality ;
  6. Oh, I will be. It was just there because I wanted to use it as a sig as well, so I forgot to take it out of the actual image when I was done making it into a sig image. Thanks!
  7. I guess it is about time that I posted up this topic instead of using my art topic for it mainly. I've been working in my spare time on things for my own fangame, which has Knuckles as the only playable character since I don't want to set my bars too high when I'm just getting into fangaming. The game won't be anything super innovative, mainly due in part to the fact that I can't really use MMF all that well yet and programming was never really my forte anyway. Instead, I had planned to include original graphics...but that didn't pan out because I know I wouldn't have enough time to make EVERY sprite in the game completely in my own style. Maybe somewhere down the line I can always try something like that, but for now I'm just using custom edited BGs so I don't have to make new sprites. However, I -will be having custom music in my game, which I'll be doing myself. I'm not the worlds greatest musician so chances are my music will not be all that awesome...but anyway...I'm rambling. I'll just list everything here in a list format and provide you with the screens of what I DO have done so far, and three music track demos I've been working on =) EDIT: Oh boy, how could I forget about this x_X, but uhh, this game is being made in the Sonic Worlds Engine =D. I take no credit whatsoever for the actual engine, since I didn't make it. I forgot to mention that before but I guess it is also in the first WIP screen there. NAME OF PROJECT: Untitled (I've just got it dubbed 'Red' for now since I can't think of anything yet) =STORY (very W.I.P)= Dr. Eggman is at it once again! This time he is building what could possibly the most dangerous machine yet, the Genesis Gateway! In order to power this machine he needs the power of the Master Emerald, which unfortunately for him is guarded by a certain Red Echidna. However, he gets Knuckles by surprise and manages to take the Master Emerald and begins to initiate the final stages of the Genesis Gateway. If he succeeds, he'll be able to distort reality to his very will! Only Knuckles is able to locate the Master Emerald, and in turn - the Genesis Gateway and Eggman. Will he be able to succeed in stopping Eggman? Very WIP, but isn't going to get much more complicated than that. I want to keep it relatively simple. Eggman is just trying to make Eggmanland again xD. =GAMEPLAY= Really not much different from how Knuckles would play in any other Sonic game, the thing is though that I'll be making the levels with him solely in mind. This means walls to climb, areas to glide over etc. As for gimmicks and whatnot, I'm not terribly creative and haven't thought much on that yet - but I'll try and think of something ^^. This is my first fangame, so I probably won't be able to make anything great in terms of gimmicks (also since I can't code very well at all) =ZONES (not in a final order yet and the names are not final yet either):= ORIGIN ZONE: This one I'm still deciding where it'll be, or to scrap it altogether. So I don't have a lot of info on this one. FLEETING FALLS: Just an area near a waterfall and a lake. If there were to be a gimmick on here I'm thinking some sort of a raft or something to get over the water areas, but if you want to take the underwater route when I get the level designed there is that option too. ^WIP Screenshot, you may have seen that in my art topic. I've got a lot of pieces still left to go on this one. As for the shading, it IS done on that particular piece of grass but I haven't updated a screenshot since that is about all I've done on that level now. ICICLE ISLAND: An ancient island that was once sunny, that is now frozen over. Now it floats amidst the Ice Caps virtually unknown to most people. If this level were to have a gimmick there'd definitely be some patches of the walkway that'll be covered in ice, but that really isn't a gimmick. I'm not sure yet what I would do for this one xD. ^ WIP Graphics. Fusion of Hydrocity and Ice Cap, custom BG (which is changing since that background was slapped together quickly). So far this one I'm the furthest on graphics wise. SOUNDSCAPE SANDS: I have no screenshot for this one, or any of the ones after this, but it is going to be a stage set around night-ish I think. That might change, it might be early dawn. Either way the stage is pretty much just the desert level. As for the name, I'm still trying to figure out how to incorporate some sort of sound-related something into this level to make it fit better since I rather like the name. RESOLVE RUINS: A ruins type stage. I'm thinking of making this where Sky Sanctuary had fallen down to. Not much thought other than that yet. MAD MACHINE: I have a music track for this one at least, but this'll be the Eggman Base stage, and the last place before Genesis Gateway (I know that one for sure). This will look very Machine-ey and whatnot. Not sure on the gimmick yet. GENESIS GATEWAY: This is going to be somewhere inside the Genesis Gateway. Going to make it look machine-like but at the same time it's going to have lots of crystals and whatnot around it. It isn't supposed to be just any ordinary machine. Gimmicks not decided yet. FINAL ZONE: Last Boss. Gimmick? Last Boss. =MUSIC TRACKS= I think they game out real good actually, Icicle Island is a bit iffy though but it was the first track out of the three I started. I'm going to redo the lead in another tone. Mad Machine's lead is also a bit loud in the solo area, but I'll be keeping it in the same tone I do think. Fleeting Falls came out pretty good overall though. My fave riff has to be either the lead from Fleeting Falls, or the 'chorus' bit in Mad Machine. No synth was used in this at all, every sound but the drums is from my guitar and mixing board effects. The drums are from EZ Drummer Icicle Island Demo Fleeting Falls Demo Mad Machine Demo Enjoy! = ARTWORK AND CONCEPT STUFF = So uhh, I hope this isn't too early for me to be posting about this ^^;
  8. Like propellers on platforms? If I remember correctly Wing Fortress had them I think. Then again, I might just be thinking of Flying Battery as well. Hydrocity's fans could always be turned into some I guess too: sprite sheet Other than that, can't think of anything off the top of my head. Edit: Woops, you said - not from Hydrocity. I'll keep looking then xD; Edit Edit: Maybe the ones from Oil Ocean? I can't find any with all the animations though for it, just the little tiny pic of it in the corner of this sheet: Oil Ocean Last edit I swear: most likely it is Starlight Zone? Propellarz?. That is all I can think of. Hope those help some.
  9. New level graphics, with a very WIP name. The background image there is temporary as well (I slapped that one together in a few minutes, I'll do a better one sometime soon) for one of the levels I have planned. I think once I get an entire level's sheet done, I'll make a game topic here since then I'll at least be able to work on an actual level. Anyway, if you couldn't guess - this is a fusion between Hydrocity and Ice Cap with many a color tweak on the hydrocity part. I think it turned out pretty nice so far. Its hard to properly see the loop though, but I think it looks pretty good =). The area around the loop doesn't have the snow on top of it yet, but I figured since it was just a test area I'll only try it at the beginning. The loop works quite good though (I had to adjust the loop pieces size though to make it work). Scenery is on its way, and of course a new background for it. I also was working a bit on Edge Falls (renamed Fleeting Falls for now) but nothing too significant was done on it other than the shading underneath the grass. I was working more on this one. I wanted to make an ice zone, but really didn't have too much to work with in terms of icy environments in the Sonic games on the Genesis, but for some reason I thought Hydrocity and Ice Cap would go okay together to make a unique looking level. I think it turned out nice =D Anyway, here are my planned names for the zones for now (not too many zones since I don't want to get too ahead of myself here). Any thoughts on 'em would be cool, especially for Icicle Island anyway xD. These aren't quite in order, cept for a few. I really like Soundscape Sands though and will probably keep that one the same. Planned Zones: Origin Zone Fleeting Falls Soundscape Sands Resolve Ruins Icicle Island Mad Machine Genesis Gateway Final Zone Anyway, hope you guys like what I have so far. I always test my pieces in the worlds engine first to make sure they'll fit with it, and I took the advice too of keeping each tile 128 by 128 (well, for everything but the scenery stuff that goes on top of the tiles). So far its been working out real good, I made fast progress on this level's graphics compared to the last since I seperated pretty much all I needed into 128 by 128. Also - sorry for the triple postage ^^. But yeah, next update I'll be making a game topic for this one since I'll have a sufficient amount of stuff to start building the actual levels
  10. I'm not a big Crush 40 fan by any means, so I didn't enjoy the song. I'd take Bowling For Soup over them any day of the week . Of course, that is probably just me.
  11. Oh man, I just realized even though I mentioned it - this is a parody game. Why I was even trying to suggest colors that'd go well together is beyond me, so I must agree with Ayling. Purple with the yellow highlights and red shoes ftw.
  12. So if I get this right you are making a parody game then? In which case I guess I'll just say stick with the orange there. I don't quite know why, but I really like the colour orange - despite never liking it about a year ago. So I'm going to suggest take the orange scheme you had there. However, I'd change the shoe colour to something maybe to compliment the orange much better than blue. Maybe a yellow or something? Just my two cents.
  13. Some new music stuff, just two test songs I guess (though I like test song 2 much better than test 1) which are just instrumentals and I'll probably use bits and pieces of them for whatever later on (as in, do something with them). I was just testing out some EZ Drummer thing which I didn't install right. Anyway, the songs I made with the drum loops were mostly on the spot except for the chords in Song 2 because I had came up with that riff about a month ago. Test song 1 sounds really cruddy since the drum loop is pretty much the exact same the entire way through and the rythym doesn't go well with the riff I came up with after the fact. Anyway, enjoy - they aren't all that great though =) Test Song 1 Test Song 2
  14. Whoa, that is some really awesome playing you have there. I was going to comment on this last night but youtube was being really dumb and wasn't loading for me so I went to bed. Good work, I wish I had those kind of playing skills.
  15. Really sweet job so far. I'm wondering if maybe I should make mockup graphics for all the zones that I have planned instead of testing them all in the engine first, and making a post like this for my project. The only thing is I don't have quite enough done on mine to warrant a topic yet. But wow, really nice job. I'll be keeping an eye on your project for sure =D
  16. It made sense. I think I get what you mean anyway. I'll just make the surface of the tile flat, and then add the extra grass and stuff on as its own backdrop object and just line it up?
  17. Ah, alright. I kind of like how it goes up and down and whatnot though. Angel Island did it . Or is there something I might not be getting then. I just make the objects and put them overtop of the tiles that came with the engine just to be safe.
  18. Oh, I know about the edge pieces...that is actually the sheet I'm using =D. I just haven't put them in yet . I can also check the tile size to make it fit that, thanks!. If it isn't that size then I can always shrink it down.
  19. Thanks Lark! I won't get rid of those graphics because I can always use them in something else I guess. I have an incomplete sprite sheet of that skunk thing from the mock screenshots, I can always just one day finish that stuff up and see how it looks with that sprite xD. Thanks for the comment too, I've got a lot of tweaking to do to those graphics still. But psh, instead of working on that I was sketching in opencanvas with some friends and this is what came out of it: Link to pic since it is big The guy in red with the horns, the creepy hug dude, and the animal eared girl are all my own original characters. The guy saying 'I cut hair' is a character that belongs to my bud Airlight. Then of course Sonic isn't my own character, and the Prinny isn't mine either dood. Hope you guys like the sketches. Its really late here so they kind of suck heh. The Sonic one was done about an hour ago though so it came out the best I think.
  20. I'm not much of a fan of hip hop, but wow you've got some really good stuff on that page. So far my favourite has to be Shinin'. Good job =D
  21. Yeah, I wouldn't worry about your style. It is different, and so I think it is quite awesome to look at. As for Final Fantasy, I've never been a big fan of it but I wish you all the best on your project =D
  22. Pretty much all the games that are of mention really have been mentioned. But whenever you get some Xbox Live stuff set up, tell me and perhaps if you want we can play some Armored Core 4? It has been a while since I've touched that game, but it is a lot of fun. I want to get Armored Core: For Answer, but I just don't have the cash at the moment.
  23. Thanks Slingerland =D. I'll definitely add the shading in, I just wanted to see if it looked better there. I'm quite bummed my original graphics didn't quite work out how I wanted them too though.
  24. Argh, I was trying to get the Chaotix sprite to work and then I realized that my custom tiles sucked major balls since they didn't work properly with that sprite either, so I went back to Genesis Knuckles and since I don't have time to try and sprite in the Sonic 3 style (college has been keeping me busy) I'm taking the easy way out I guess and I'm merging previous graphics and tweaking them a bit. So this is what the new graphics look like (still incomplete): I really wanted to have 100% custom graphics, but right now I don't have the time. Maybe next year or something I'll start something with 100% original graphics (since I am in animation now, the walk cycles for original sprites will be easier too next year). Oh well, I'll keep working on this more over the weekend I think.
