Candescence
Why the hell is nobody talking about this? This looks absolutely phenomenal. It's kinda unfortunate that this game, to an extent, suffers from "Real Is Brown", but I'll put up with it, because everything else looks absolutely amazing, especially the fluid system, one of the most accurate 3D fluid systems I've ever seen, as well as how the world can dynamically mold itself, it's absolutely incredible. It's being designed by Eric Chahi, the genius behind games such as Another World and Heart of Darkness, and he looks like he's gonna pull out another winner. As for the game itself, a small explanation from Chahi demonstrates how the player can manipulate the environment to achieve their goals. Rather than Black And White's 'good and evil' thing, where you have to defeat or convert other tribes, your main goal is protecting your people from natural distasters, such as tsunamis, volcanoes, earthquakes, etc. For example, in order to protect a tribe against a tsunami, one of the villagers needs to get up to a glowing blue stone at the top of a mountain. Problem is, there's a river blocking the way. Solution? Create a makeshift bridge of soil or rock. You also gotta get the guy back down fast enough to avert disaster - as the article says, "it's a good thing water-powered villagers can swim, because it turns out washing the villager out via an impromptu lake and waterfall combination is one of the quickest ways to get him back down the mountainside. Once he's safely home, the water-powered villager can pass his power on to his neighbors, who then band together stop the tsunami in its tracks with some rhythmic chanting and drumming." There's also some extra stuff from GDC on how the underlying engine works. It's fascinating. And, the kicker? It's a downloadable game - XBLA, PSN, and Steam (AKA, PC). This is gonna be so damn awesome.
Serephim
That is fucking amazing. Yeah, i've never seen fluid dynamics done as well as they are in this game. It really almost drives the whole engine.
DimensionWarped
No plans for a PC release? But that's where a game like this would really shine... where people can mod and whatnot as they please. EDIT: Oh, must have missed "and Steam"
Serephim
yeah, thats really the most astounding thing. The LAST thing i was expecting was a console release from this, but it seems to only get console releases....
Candescence
Yeah, I should've made it more clear that it's on PC via Steam.
DimensionWarped
The only reason it wasn't clear was because the videos all but completely omitted the very notion of it not being a console-only game.
