  1. FUNKY MONKEY BABYS - ちっぽけな勇気 (Chippoke na Yuki)
  2. Yep. Essentially, wash, rinse, repeat. Not a bad way to go about it, if you've got spare CD's (or DVD's, if you're so inclined). I keep most of my work out of windows, so I can't really help much on that end. However, just try to remove any processes that you really don't need to run at once. Using the HD indexing that XP comes with works well - sort of a take on the ReiserFS and ext3 journaling systems. Another couple tips: remove old System Restore backups. Saves massive disk space (I got over 6 gigs back one time). Also, try comparing what happens when running normally, and running in safe mode - since most programs will not load (except for system-required ones) in safe mode, you can see what processes might actually be bogging everything down.
  3. Start -> run..., type msconfig. Go to the startup tab. Take out anything unnecessary. Start a defrag (make sure the screensaver is disabled, because it'll restart the defrag otherwise). Make some tea, and take a short nap. When defrag is done, then see if it's any better.
  4. 誕生日おめでとう!(Tanjoubi Omedetou!) Feliz Cumpleaños! Felichan Naskightagon! Joyeux Anniversaire! Alles Gute zum Geburtstag! Buon Compleanno! Saeng il chuk ha ham ni da! Hau`oli la hanau! .... Or, just happy birthday. Take your pick.
  5. My box at home. Will have to wait until later to get my laptop screen up.
  6. Devil assist trophy, huh? This one kinda intrigues me. I do like to see a mad, rushing scramble of people not wanting to die... Interesting idea all over. Let's just move the level out from under your feet, and see what happens.
  7. I'm kinda interested in how they're going to pull that character design off: if you hit the trainer, does he take damage, or just the pokemon? If you knock off any of the pokemon, is it a ko, and the character refreshes? I see that this raises more questions than answers, however cool it might be.
  8. I'm currently a CS major (entering my 3rd year of the program). As Epon said, there's only a small difference in the course work of a SE major and a CS major; it all depends on what you like doing. I do like the analogy of the positions of an architect and a bricklayer, respectively, however. One does all the planning and layout for what they're building, and the other one gets their hands dirty working on getting something implemented. As for the job market, it depends on what you want to be coding. I know that a lot of programmers in the US are hired by small firms, to do in-house projects. It's more likely you'd end up on that end, instead of writing software specifically to be sold off-the-shelf. However, the jobs are there - don't worry about not finding anything. And, if you get the chance, take internships. Most of the time, if you do good work, they become full jobs.
  9. The trip was a blast. There are a lot of things that I wish I could have brought back, but I'm happy to be home with everyone again. It was good for a study abroad trip, but I doubt if I could live there for an extended period of time.
  10. Thanks, everyone. It's good to get a nice warm welcome. It's been an interesting couple of days, getting back from Nagasaki, so I'm still a little jet-lagged and disoriented. I should be up to speed again here in a day or two.
  11. Hence the little math joke... I'll stop badgering you now. Heh, didn't get the joke until I saw that. Sorry, a little slip of the tab key when writing the post. But, that's why we have an edit button.
  12. After receiving the degree, I'll consider the major study over, and then start on the Master's study probably. Once I graduate, I will have that as a major study of that field, and will have the degree to prove it. It's a little arguing semantic, but maybe it's my twisted logic. Leaning towards the latter. Coming home tomorrow. Leaving Nagasaki, Japan, after 4 months, to return to the Midwest. Location change = bad, seeing friends & family = good.
  13. It means I'm 2 years into the 4 year program. So I don't have the major yet, and so am in training.
  14. Hello everyone. Not used to doing an intro thread like this (most forums I know frown upon it), but it seems to be not only accepted but encouraged here. So: 'sup. ------------------- A little background: I'm a Computer Science major-in-training at Clarke College, which exists somewhere in the black hole we like to call a midwest USA. First came ahold of this page, and joined thereafter, because of my roommate. Therefore, if all else fails, blame ila - it's his fault I'm here now. Focus in fangaming: I'm a bit new to the fangaming world, but I have seen quite a bit of what you guys have done over the past couple years, and I'm impressed. I'd like to get down and design some engines/backend for you all, but as a programmer, I feel more inclined to do those in some form of programming lanuage instead of using MMF, GF, etc. I've tried, but never really got comfortable defining things by point-and-click. However, if someone needs a good, solid coder, I'll be available. My main work is done in C++/Java/Ruby, and I have some knowledge of SDL (a multimedia framework) and the Allegro game programming library. Also interested in learning the Python/PyGame system. I love playing multiplayer games: anything that you can turn to another person (or use some form of voice chat), and say "ha! take that!" That said, It would thrill me to no end if someone wanted to work on a LAN- or IPX-connection based Sonic multiplayer project. That would be le cool. Well, that's me. Do what you will.
