It's a tracker. You create the instruments and you play them with your computer keyboard. In the tracker area (the one that opens up first) you use the keyboard querty style to insert notes. Each column is a track, and is the piano roll you where asking after. But instead of displaying the notes as a bar it prints the note as text.

Say can you give me a lil' more info? What tool are we talking about? It might be a good advice to skip wav as music since 1 minute wave fullblown stereo cd quality takes up 10 megabytes while MIDI takes up less then 10 kilobytes.
