  1. ...When I saw that first pic, all I could think of was THIS ... I'm glad to see some form of your game still being alive, it looks awesome!
  2. I also made it so when wallJump=1, everything else is shut off except the wall jump function. Ok, this is what I basically have for the wall jump. It kinda works but for some reason he losses all his gravity even when he isn't touching the wall... I know I'm close but I feel like I'm missing something.
  3. YES! I was waiting for this Strife...Not to sound like a stalker or anything haha but this game looks awesome and it's a big inspiration for me and my game. Keep it up and I cant wait to see more.

  5. Hey guys. I'm attempting to make my own engine and I just wanted to know how I would go about making a character able to wall jump. I'm also having trouble trying to make it so I can change the layer of the ground by pressing a key(ex. press down to change layer). Help would be much appreciated(why do I feel like I say this in like every post...) Thanks

  7. I never heard of that Digital Drug stuff till now...It sounds crazy; Something SEGA would do while trying to make a Sonic game... It wasn't really stupid to ask, I did say that I wanted to know how you guys get your ideas(and I got some pretty...interesting answers) but if that's how some people handle it then I consider it still on topic.
  8. I'm hoping and assuming this is the right area to put this seeing as it's General Fangame Discussion... Ok, In the last decade, I've learned a lot about game design and art and from this knowledge that I took in, I realized that games should be well thought out before you begin making them(obvious, I know). Since I've realized this, I've been making everything in the games or artwork that I make have a purpose: i.e. sonic has boost instead of random anime kamehameha wave because sonic is a symbol for speed, not power. With that being said, How much do you guys plan out your games before you make them? Do you have a source to give you inspiration if your running low on imagination? How far do you plan on taking your game design knowledge in life? I'm actually looking forward to a lot of your answers to be honest...
  9. Bump for help...When It comes to game design, I'm horrible at coding... I'm more of a concept artist than a programmer so if its not too much trouble, could someone help me out? I'm trying to change sonic's weight; I tried changing the amount of gravity objPlayer has but it didn't work, I also need to know a couple other things but for now, I just wanna get a video out for official proof of my game. Help would be much appreciated.
  10. If that's The case, why not just give him the air dash instead to the homing attack? it'll probably be easier to program and it requires skill to master...IMO what the homing attack should have been.
  11. I really like those new pics you put up! What program did you say you were using to make this in again? Everything seems cool but the crouch seems a little off...Its creative but why not just make him do his regular crouch?
  12. I'm actually trying to get an engine test video up but this software isn't really working right, it's weird. gimme a day or 2, i'll get it down and post up the logo...I'm trying to draw everything out so it's taking longer than I thought...

  14. *HERE COMES A NEW GAME!!* UPDATE!!: I feel reeeeeally stupid right now. I decided to stick with the classic sprites because the advanced sprites looked out of place in a classic game...But what made me really feel stupid was the fact that I could have just used the Sonic Crackers sprites...! ...Yeah..I know...For the people who are looking out for this game, expect an engine test video by next week showcasing the ring toss and some gimmicks I have planned for the game. Its been waaay too long since my last game(which I made the engine for from scratch...but my comp caught a trojan...) but I'm pleased to announce my new game: Sonic: King Of The Ring(Logo coming soon) NOTE: This wont be like some fan games that never got finished...Reason being, I need to make this to add to my portfolio for this college I'm going to. I've said this for as long as I can remember, I'm working for ST... it's not an option! Story: 100% Up until now, Robotnik has been using the small animals of various islands to power his robot battalion but Sonic The Hedgehog has always found a way to thwart the doctors plans and free his friends. Robotnik finally realizes that if he tries to take the animals again, Sonic will just save them...but if he(Dr) doesn't find a power source for his robots, he wont be able to make his long sought after "Robotnikland"; It was then that the good Doctor stumbled upon a brilliant idea: Use Sonic's "power source" to power his own robots! And while doing this, Robotnik will make Sonic's "power source" scarce..."it's like killing 2 birds with one stone!" he says with a devilish grin on his face... Meanwhile, Sonic begins to notice the lack of rings in the environment. Sonic wonders whats going on but then notices a robot chasing his animal friends. Sonic spins into action, destroys the bot and notices a ring popping out instead of an animal "Hmm that's weird. No wonder the rings around here are scarce" Sonic said picking up the ring "Guess Eggbutniks planning something again...but its really strange" Sonic says looking at the ring he just picked up from the destroyed robot " This is the only ring for miles..." Sonic then starts to make his way to find out what Robotniks up to...but it wont be easy seeing as he only has 1 ring! Engine: 85% Upgraded Christmas engine for GM7 Credits: ECLIPSc70- Custom sprites and engine tweaking Damizean - For making the X-Mas Engine RogueYoshi - For making the X-Mas Engine Kain - Sonic 3 sound effects Chaos Rush- Posting the engine and tweaking it Music: 0% Inspired by Sonic CD. I plan On making 1 song and remixing it several times to match the stage...It's gonna be awesome!! XD Sprites: 50% I'm customizing the SA1 and Sonic Battle sprites and making custom sprites also. This is pretty much my forte. Proof Of Game: Those aren't finalized, I still want to add more detail but I would appreciate some artistic directing. Levels: 10% I'm drawing everything out including the levels so I'll post up a screenshot of individual zones when I'm finished 1. Twilight Cliff Game Background: I thought of the idea while listening to some Sonic CD music and "King Of The Ring" from the Sonic Arcade soundtrack. Ive been drawing everything out for about a week now. What I'm planning for the game is to have the gimmick be: Sonic only has 1 ring(ring toss animation from sonic battle included.) There aren't any rings littered around the stage like other Sonic games BUT there are a lot of Badniks around with rings in them ala SA3. Sonic can throw the ring to set up for a light dash which can get him to reach different places but he can only throw 1 ring at a time(to prevent brokeness) and when you throw a ring, it minuses from your ring count(yup...) Final Thoughts: This games concept is still going through a lot of development; It took me a good 3 days just to decide whether I should use advanced sprites or genesis sprites and I'm still debating...I chose advanced for now though because most of the big name fan games such as Sonic XG, Sonic Retro, STT etc.(awesome games) all have the genesis style and I really don't like being like everyone else. Any tweaks, thoughts and suggestions will be considered. Thanks and keep your eyes out for more S:KOTR info! WALL-O-TEXT!!!(X_X)
  15. This game...I like it a lot but like some others who posted here have stated, it still feels like a fan game. The visuals are beautiful but they steal from the focus, which is sonic, the physics aren't perfect but there built pretty well. Personally I cant wait to see more but I really don't like when people shove this game in your face and say stuff like" THIS IS BETTER THAN SONIC 4!!!!!11ONE!" it's obnoxious.... I like you guys, if there were any sonic fans who deserved the title "sensible," you guys would get it hands down.
  16. Personally I hate using pre-made engines but I like this one a lot. There are a couple of bugs though like when I go off a curve, sonic gets stuck in ball form unable to jump or move at all. The acceleration is a little off too but I think that's just my inner nitpicky sonic fan talking. EDIT: Hate to ask but how do you add animations?

  18. Hey guys, long time no talk! If it's not too much trouble, I'm in need of a sonic battle fighting engine(when you do a combo, the enemy has the damage taking frame up...),Me and Google haven't been the best of friends lately but I just need to know how its done so I could make my own variation of it for a game I'm making for my college. No doubt I'll give credit where credit is due. I think Proshadowblaze(?) has something similar to it in his game...if he doesn't mind me learning from his work({=D ) I forgot the name of the game though...
  19. I'm currently working on a project and I need a solid 360 movement engine to use and learn from so I can create my own. I don't exactly want to take a full Sonic engine because their are too many things that stray from the 360 movement I'm looking to learn. Help would be much appreciated.

Hey all, feels like forever since I've been here, but college is fast approaching and i wanted to make something to stick in my portfolio but for me to successfully finish my project i need some help with some stuff. Animation: I need help making my characters animate smoothly (E.G. sonic crouch, the animation doesn't repeat). Weapon Collision: I need serious help with this, I don't even know were to begin. my character is going to be using weapons like swords, yo-yo's and stuff and I need help making it so when my character attacks, the weapon hits the enemy and the enemy takes damage. Thanks for the help, its greatly appreciated.
