  1. Oh, I'm not giving up on this project. WE aren't, it's not just me. And you guys were acting rather rude. You can't possibly deny that. Anyway, do whatever, seeing as I broke rules.
  2. Good glad to see we're all elitists here. Just lock this topic. I'm not up to giving a rant to you idiots about how imature everyone (including myself) has been in this topic. I only ask this, seeing as this topic isn't making anyone happy.
  3. We don't have a public release of ProSonic yet, so it's not like we're pissing away time making shit when we could be handling the engine at the moment. I'd agree with you if we were able to get started, though.
  4. We're working on deciding the new name. Personally, I don't see the rush to change it until we have a substancial amount of work to go from being a concept to a true project.
  5. You're right. The fault is mine, I shouldn't have accused you of such things at that level. Heh, I haven't been thinking straight, I'm trying to sweat out some sickness at the moment, so I'd like you to forgive me for being a bit of a nut. But here's what I found a bit insulting/imature, since you asked. Prejudging all of us. I found that a bit immature, serious or not. It can simply be disregarded, I over reacted a bit.
  6. Just because evryone here has a Retro "elitist core" or "ASM 1337ness v.s. programmin skillz" grudge doesn't mean that's ok to insult the project and myself personally. Just because the staff is Retro members doesn't mean we're heartless dictators that only choose what we want and ignore people who post rational ideas. All your posts do hold some truth to them, but insulting me for my opinion (Dami) is not the way to go about it. Serious or not, I think some of the members who have been around here would've been more mature. I don;t want this to turn into a flame or trash topic. If you'd like to give constructive criticism, please do so, saying "this sucks", "we're not limited by ASM and we can program all that with awesome skills" is not the way to go about it. i'm not looking for smooth sailing and lolipops and junk the entire time though. Sorry, just trying to keep this topic clean. Sorry if my topic has offened anyone.
  7. Heh, this isn't even a Retro project, and it never was. The topic was trashed and we split off into a separate forum for organization. Also, I do believe that unless someone uses the code from the Genesis engine and translates it, a fan game will never be able to replicate the classic feel off the physics. Oh, that, and free rotation. Eugh. Anyway, just thought I'd share my opinion on the above comments. I do enjoy fan games though if they're done right. Don't get me wrong.
  8. The art may not seem unique, but we're coming up with surprises that I'm sure will catch you off gaurd. The art itself is based on the "cliches" of Sonic, so that's why it may not seem so original, but I can assure you, it won't be humdrum retrowank. Excuse my spelling, English has never been my strong point. XD
  9. don't work, Jim has already stated we'll be making 100% original music. We're just using music as placeholders and inspiration.
  10. Sorry if I offended you Spike. I was trying to state a fact about what we were doing. We thought we were being arrogant, claiming Sonic 4 as our name, when we don't think we can really be the true sequel. Also, I'm a bit disappointed by the outlook on how this project will fair. Unfortunately, I cannot say anything otherwise, except to show we can get the ball rolling with this. This is why I came to SFGHQ to tell you about the project. To help strengthen our numbers a bit. Thank you for all the constructive criticism too. Also, yes, "steak". It was 11:00 PM, I was typing on my DS. Something was bound to be wrong. EDIT: I though I'd post some cool engine stuff I just realized. Perfect ports of physics, characters, and objects from the Sonic games can be done easily. Thanks to ProSonic, we'll be able to use the exact identical code from the MD games to do this.
  11. I'm sorry, I forgot you were part of Sega. Unfortunatly, you cannot steak claim to such a generic name. Also, if you were in the know, you might understand we might not even use Sonic 4 as an official name for it. Still, we don't intend for this to die, as it's by the community as whole.
  12. Good start to your sprites. Try more light shading and anti-aliasing for that "professional" look.
  13. Thanks for showing some interest Aero. I hope you'll make some good contributions to the project. Now, I'll have to edit this topic later because I didn't watermark stuff. The rest of the team wants to take precautions against people who will plaguerize our materials. They're right, and I overlooked that.
  14. LOSTS OF STUFF. MODS CAN EDIT FOR REASONSI UNDERSTAND. Hey guys, some of you may remember me, but that's not the real point, I'm here to tell you about the Sonic 4 project. I'm not prospecting for helpers, because this is already running and has substance. -Backstory- The original initiative was proposed by Phoebius of Sonic Retro. I'm in no way saying he takes credit for any form of a Sonic 4, this is just a note for the info on it. The original concept was to make it a community project of Sonic Retro. However, after some crap about plots and other nonsense, the topic on it quickly fell to pieces. A forum was set up with more structure and preventative methods to help keep things neat. -Initiative- This project is based on a Sonic 4 for the community, by the community in the most classic style necessary. The game is set after Sonic 3 and Knuckles, and is projected as a direct sequel. However, this is by no means saying the project is "retrowank". We're looking at means of keeping Sonic close to it's original formula of speed and platforming, while adding refreshing new changes. Anyone (after showing their worth) may contribute to this project in any way they can. The areas, as designated by Phoebius can be seen in this nifty chart: -Engine- We will not be using Game Maker, Multimedia Fusion, or The games Factory to create this game. We will be using saxman's ProSonic engine as our means of creation. This engine using Motorola 68000 assembly code, the very code used in the Mega Drive, for objects. This has been tested using a port of Sonic, and works amazingly. It should be noted that this engine is not open to public distribution yet, and will be tested with private builds before that time. -Samples of Works- Here's some example's of our works (PLEASE DO NOT USE. PLEASE DO NOT ASK FOR THESE SPRITES): Sprites: Sonic - By Armada (originally Chimpo) Animation test (jerky): Ice Shield - By Phoebius: Tropical Zone level art - by Rika: Music: Tropical Zone music - By Dave Weckl, Covered by Tweaker: http://www.fileden.com/files/15774/Island%20Magic.mp3 Concept Art: Sonic "4 fingers" - By Adamis Blue Mountain Zone - by Resel Ruins Zone - By Adamis -Links and Info- Trashed Retro Topic: http://forums.sonicretro.org/index.php?showtopic=11367&st=0&start=0 Official Forum: http://s4.besonic.fm IRC Channel: Server - BadnikNET (irc.badnik.net) Channel - #sonic4project On a final note, please do not join if you're not going to contribute, or if you try to derail this. Thank you.
