  1. If this is considered spam then please delete and accept my apologies. I put together a quick sound board app for the iPhone featuring some classic sound effects. I plan to update it with better graphics and sounds if it catches on. I'm having trouble finding a good source of effects. Is there a good emulator which lets me dump sounds as wav files? You can take a look at it here: http://itunes.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewSoftware?id=352258273&mt=8 It needs a lot of work. So please give me some feedback. I am aware of a broken button but I have already rolled out version 1.1 to fix that. Let me know what you think :-)
  2. You're right, I got mixed up, I use paintbrush http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/imaging_3d/paintbrush.html I do use Paint.net on my windows installation but I regret having a windows installation in the first place. Just trying to save this guy some unneeded agro that bootcamp can cause.
  3. I'm just interested to know the general ages of the people on this board. People freaked out when they found out I was 22 last year (now 23). There seems to be so many debates on the board about the age of gamers and there is clearly a divide between those who love the original games and those who love all of this new Sonic Advance-y crap. So how many of you were truly around in the beginning?
  4. Wow...slow down. Forget bootcamp, just download Paint.net I use it on my Macbook and it's great.
  5. That makes sense. Changing IP isn't really possible so I'll save that email address and drop a line if it happens again. Thanks for the info.
  6. I'm more of a lurker around this forum but I do like to drop in from time to time and check out the progress of people's games and i'm still working on one myself. Anyhoo, I keep getting a notice saying my IP has been banned and this stops me from viewing the site even as a guest. This has happened twice so far...why? I seldom post anything and when I do I doubt it's breaking the rules. Please let me know what's up. I'm sure its a technical error but I wanna know if I'm doing something wrong.
  7. This is looking really great. I love the idea, Sonicteam should have done this.
  8. They might be reviving Sonic and Knuckles RPG...a game in the works for the Dreamcast, no details were released but it was in the Sega up and coming release list.
  9. Just tried the beta, feels like there's so much missing.
  10. I love it! What's the story? A death egg manufacturing plant?? Or just a secret base?
  11. I'm over here, past the sonic advance mixed with genesis sprites and a little to the left of the grammatically challenged cutscene text boxes!
  12. Thanks everyone! Sorry for the late reply, i've been drinking and playing lego starwars II/Black for two days solid!!
  13. Thankyou for making me feel so welcome. Think I'll be staying out of general discussion from now on. Good luck with whatever you decide to build DW, building a machine of any type is always great fun.
  14. I am very close to feeling insulted. Although I'm going to put it down entirely to different expriences. As for the 10% statement, I have no idea how much performance I'm losing, it was a figure for the purpose of making a point but to be honest I think I could quite happily match your processes with no slowdown and to be honest I don't think Vista is hindering my performance at all. HOWEVER, I never said that it wouldn't do it to anybody else, I never recommended it either I simply described MY experience so DW can then go and make his own mind up, it's certainly better than other opinions you occasionally see on forums (e.g OMG VISTA SUXOR...XP till I die etc etc.) you know what I mean anyway. And as for the automated compatibility problems, you're spot on right, it really is a case of luck right now when it comes to Vista supporting your hardware and an absolute nightmare on notebooks. The innaccessibility of the more in depth customisation options is an initial issue and unless you choose business or ultimate (i'm on home premium). It can take a bit of digging to find what you want, the shell certainly doesn't help I won't deny that. My support for vista lies in the fact that i've been lucky and my hardware compliments it, I like the 64-bit and dual core compatibility (something of a driver battle in XP SP2 x64 when you use AMD processors) and yes, the pretty colours are appealing lol. Also as much as I hate to admit it, it will become the norm soon enough. Ultimately if you would like to know the real reason why I chose Vista?? It was soooooo much cheaper than OEM XP when I bought my system and I was on a very tight budget. lol. If I could afford to go back to XP then I would, but until I get word back from Google NY i'm unemployed and broke.
  15. Lol, whatever i'm not gonna get into an OS war because I really don't care that much to be honest but Vista does everything I could want out of a pc, decent gaming office applications and net use... ...I'm not trying to send my nasa rocket into space yet so that oh so precious 10% of processing power that i'm losing because of aero is not missed. In fact after 15 years of OS experience i've never been so at ease with an environment. It's simple and to the point.
  16. Yeah i'm not suggesting Intel are poor I know they provide great performance but it comes at a price. I was just suggesting AMD for the sake of saving a few pounds. And when you get down to it, it makes little difference anyway to the average user, unless you start benchmarking like crazy then you'll never know what's really going on. Anyway as a little guide this is my system, it plays STALKER at 40-60fps with everything on absolute maximum: AMD X2 64-bit 5000 2GB of dual channel DDR2 533 ram. 250GB 7200RPM seagate sata harddrive ASrock 610 DVI motherboard with Nforce 6 430 chipset. Geforce 8600GTS 256MB
  17. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128321 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103773 I would recommend those too, which ultimately would save you money, I wouldn't let the price put you off their performance is still exceptional. As for your graphics card, I checked out the specs and despite the same name and numbers your choice seems far superior to mine, odd...:S As for the RAM, im sure you know how to choose two sticks instead of one.
  18. I have Vista 64-bit and I love it. It's an excellent way of getting the most from dual core too. One word of advice, research your onboard LAN/wifi hardware intensely, despite having an Nforce 6 430 chipset my onboard LAN does not work and alot of Wifi cards are incompatible. Microsoft seem to have neglected even some of the most mainstream products. Also, MMF and gamemaker dont always work quite so well in the Vista environment without some serious DLL importing. EDIT: oh must mention, forget the 8600 range, move straight up to the 8800 or down to the 7900GT, I have an Inno3D 8600GTS and its performance is one quarter that of an 8800 and about 10% slower than the 7900 GT, although the direct X10 availability is nice. As for the price of Vista....buy an OEM copy its exactly the same and costs half the price. Two lots of DDR2 rather than one is again a sound piece of advice as the optimisation makes a big difference. Yeah you will need a DVI-VGA adapter but all graphics cards come with them. And won't you reconsider the intel?? AMD all the way, ive just built my system and im loving the X2 range. The case will probably come with a cooling fan and the CPU fan which ships with the CPU has thermal paste pre-applied. Dual cores are pretty cool, with no extra fans they run around 36 degrees centigrade, plenty of room for overclocking although don't quote me because this is my experience with amd who have the cool 'n' quiet technology.
  19. Yeah I have full distribution rights so I may start sending stuff out when it gets heavy. The problem I had last time was finding willing coders, most people jump at the chance to do levels graphics sounds and design, the second you mention code they all run away!
  20. hehe, we'll have to wait and see, I find coding very difficult and it takes me a while to get my head around some things.
  21. A6 pro. I know the video isn't much but it exempts me from the 'fake games' category. Better to show something than nothing at all.
  22. It's the first thing I've ever used to make games with and it's supposed to be aimed at levels for games like pong all the way up to quake 3 equivalents and I would say it's fairly straight forward once you've sat down with a few tutorials. You can get a trial version from their website if you want to try it. I find it ok to use now that I've worked out how it works and I have no experience whatsoever. So if I can do it, anyone can.
  23. lol...the running animation is totally lost in the video quality but in real time its essentially super peel out with a nice blur effect. It's programmed in a modified form of C using 3D Gamestudio A6 6.5 (google). Which basically an all in one dev package...script, model maker(very similar to wings 3d) and world editor. Thanks for the support
  24. It's back! Sonic the Comic the game was cancelled some months ago due to heavy uni commitments, an awkward engine inhibited by an outdated gamemaker and of course a poor programmer (me). Anyway, I finally have my hands on a new release of Connetic's 3D Gamestudio and the improvements they've made are so fantastic I've decided to bring my game back into the limelight. I've decided to rename the project Sonic CC (the CC stands for comic collection/comic compendium/comic chaos - I haven't decided which yet). For those of you who don't know about the previous game, it was a 3D platform/adventure game based upon the UK fleetway comics. No screenshots as yet as the game is being completely reworked however today I wrote the new movement and combat engine (sans dying enemies or AI). I'm quite excited about it so below is a youtube link to a short video, unfortunately alot of the animation frames are lost due to quality but you get the idea. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=covbMBGG_1Q Anyway, I have graduated from Uni now, and have alot more time to work on this so expect updates often. I'll refrain from releasing anything playable until I have a level and have tweaked the movement system. EDIT: Credit goes to Damizean (I think) for the 3D model.
