I guess I've just been spoiled by Daggerfall and Morrowind, then. Everything else in the demo was great, I was just turned off big-time by the combat system. When it comes out I might rent it to see if the story can balance it all out, just to see if it still sends me into TES withdrawal or not, then base a purchase decision on that. First time, I think, I've ever let fanboyism get in the way of a series I used to like a lot. >.>

No, but that menu driven real-time combat engine is incredibly clunky and very annoying to deal with. Even when set to 'Wait' mode. Decent ally AI for what the demo had, but still... they could have done a lot better.

Ugh. I played the FFXII demo that came with Dragon Quest VIII and almost broke down in tears. It looked nice, but the combat was... well... if I wanted real-time combat in a console RPG, I'd be playing Elder Scrolls. I guess I'm missing out on another chapter in the FF "story".

I've tried tinkering with the Clickteam products, but I'm far more comfortable with GM.

I don't have very many games myself, but I would highly recommend the last two CastleVania games for it: Harmony of Dissonance and Aria of Sorrow. Excellent platformers very worthy of being in the series. Both Metroid games were pretty good, too (Fusion and Zero Mission). Hope this helps. ^.^
