  1. Nothing to do with the JS.
  2. O_O at MWC That ... that feeling. It feels like a Dreamcast game! I can see why it hasn't made a US release, though.
  3. Been playing RO with a 3/4 size optical travel mouse by IBM. Makes my fingers hate me. But oh, Minesweeper does a number on my fingers. By contrast, this is nice, just moving it around.
  4. Yeah, I wouldn't be quite so cheesed if it didn't make my Opera experience worse than DA already made it.
  5. Yeah, I'd never imagined the 1989 Batman film would work. Micheal Keaton, Bruce Wayne? What? Guy's too wimpy! Jack Nicholson... the Joker? He doesn't even look right! And then you see them act out the parts to near perfection, especially because Jack Nicholson can be really really really really creepy in many different ways.
  6. Note: not. effing. kidding. It's true!Darkwing Duck for NES is a fun platformer (developed by Capcom).
  7. I was a carnivore until that DARN RICE got in my way. Betrayed by my half-Korean instincts.
  8. Worcestershire sauce? Ketchup? What a suckers! DESTROY ALL FOREIGN SAUCES! SHOW ME! SHOYU!! KIKKOMAN! KIKKOMAN!
  9. Wait for WWDC (this week) to be over, man. Just wait, Papa Steve is 99.9% sure to reveal the Intel Core 2 Duo-running Macs. Oh, and Mr. Smidgey... the only real good reason for getting bleeding-edge stuff is to anticipate the end user of a finished product. Everything else is marketing-driven futureproofing paranoia and gamecrufty e-c0q.
  10. Some days I always thought that Knux was so out of it that he would think that leisure suits were still hip. Thank you for eradicating that image from my mind.
  11. Truth is, until most of the manufacturers jump on the 64-bit bandwagon, Linux is still the 64-bit desktop's best friend. But get 64-bit Windows anyway if you don't mind slight wonkiness at times (after all, I'm typing this post on my MacBook via Boot Camp, and lemme be the first to tell you, the touchpad is mega-wonky). And while you can get USB MIDI interfaces these days, sometimes it's just Worth It to get a sound card. Depends on the quality of the integrated sound, though.
  12. The thing is, back when it was kind of N64 vs. PSX vs. Saturn, guess which one got labelled with "Ultimate 2D gaming machine"? Yeah. It was the Saturn, and we all know how that did in the popularity contest (where was Segata Sanshiro when it hit the US?) Oh, and lots of people probably still have Lemmings or Lemmings 2 for something lying around. Not exactly always brought to mind in today's world of the 2-second attention span, but if you take some time out of your day to play this, you'd be surprised how much time you could waste on it (even if it's only to get 100 lemmings all in the same place and nuke them for kicks). Plus, the music's great. In the same vein, SimCity 2000. Will forever remain the best incarnation of the series in my heart. Music by The Fat Man (who is actually pretty skinny).
  13. For me, they did!Sketching is one of the better 2D things to get into the habit of doing. It's basically just drawing without erasing. I don't go anywhere without it.
  14. Dragon Warrior Monsters, in a similar vein to Pokemon.
  15. 50 percent of what is said on the Internet is misinterpreted.I just don't sweat it if it doesn't happen time after time with the same person.
  16. A hock shop is where you hock stuff. Synonymous with pawn shop. Garage sales sometimes turn up hidden gems. Food pantries sometimes end up with computers that they have no idea what to do with (so volunteer to fix a few and maybe they'll let you keeps some parts). I got a 500MHz G3 PowerBook for $275 (US) off eBay. Pretty good computer, approximately equivalent to a Dell Inspiron 5000 in PC terms. Cooler, though, just because you can run OS X.
  17. Disk space. You don't always need the lossless compression. If it is needed, they tend to use TIFF's out in the real world. Plus, PNG doesn't do certain things the pros need to do. Not to mention the stuff with CIN, DPX or EXR. PNG is mostly a really really good GIF replacement, meant for network transfer more than anything else. The other ones suck, RIT's a good computer science school that'll practically get me a master's in 3 or 4 years if I got crackin' on it, don't want to stay in the hot hellhole of the DC metro all the time, practically guaranteed a job, decent scholarship despite my crappy GPA, prestigious film and animation program, home of Jolt Cola, a good second shot at getting into CMU, distant relatives living there, campus is practically new, and many many more reasons. You know, the typical reasons. Not complicated at all Also, I don't think anyone ignored the other ones. My brother's even considering a few; they just weren't for me.
  18. 32MB is sort of minimum spec as far as Linux on a PC goes, but lots of laptops this old get along fine with X in black-and-white mode... then again, I run Mac OS X on some freggin' old machines, so
  19. The scanning could use a little work, but that's probably just because you weren't trying to scan it well (or this is a photo ). Not to mention that it's not CG'ed to hell and back, it's hueg, etc. The right side of Mickey's shorts (well, his left) doesn't appear to line up.
  20. And EDIT: Ahaha cut off. And IE4 took care of most of it, and DirectX support for whatever version isn't all that useful. Better USB / Plug n' Pray support was the only compelling reason to get Windows 98 back then for me... EDIT2: I remember trying zipslack a while back. Man, what a trip.
  21. Ubuntu is just a distro. Disable graphics, and it's Debian without @#$%s doing the packages. Enable graphics? Use Blackbox, don't bother with the GNOME. Frankly, I've gotten KDE3 working on a 500MHz machine before, and I know someone who runs KDE2 with Slackware just fine on his 486 laptop. Not to mention all those 433MHz Celerons I've run stuff on. Okay, they were dual celerons, but years of dumbass sysadmins had SMP off. Oh, and Win95 is faster than Win98 in my experience.
  22. GameFAQs proles aren't FF fans. They're FF7 fans.
  23. [edit: Not proud of this one. Went beyond cringeworthy into actually kinda bad.]
  24. Go easy on it First off, you probably want to use something old-hat. And boring. Try Debian or Fedora. Maybe SuSE. Ehh, maybe even Ubuntu. Slackware if you feel like it. I say stick with the Debian. If you're doing anything graphical (I suggest NOT), either keep it simple or be very, very patient. Blackbox is good at simple. KDE is good at teaching you patience (and frankly, I'm not so sure whether a 133MHz laptop + KDE is a good combo). I think you'll probably want to just install Blackbox if anything. When you set it up, get 64MB of swap. That way, you aren't wasting too much space, but you do have enough space... but if you can get your paws on more RAM, it'd be worth it. What will you do with this computer? You gotta think lightweight for just about everything. If you are going to do word processing, use Abiword or Koffice (if you use KDE, that is). Browsing? Hrm, try dillo. If you use KDE, try konqueror (probably not enough RAM). Use Opera (probably not enough RAM). Firefox? Out of the question, you don't have enough RAM. Either way, it's kind of not a good idea to use it to surf graphically, you should probably just get the hang of lynx or links2 or w3m. Games? You are... ouch... out of luck. Just install Win95 or DOS for that. MP3? Probably not fast enough. Learn to know what files to delete to save space. Use text console if at all possible. Don't expect anything out of the battery.... So... what else you need to know?
