  2. Apparently MS botched the XP emulation in Win7, and a lot of PCs won't be able to run it. Don't count on Win7 being backward compatible with XP applications. =Smidge=
  3. That's not how time travel works! Zombies exist because they went back in time. You have to think fourth-dimensionally! =Smidge=
  4. No, causal. Think about it. Zombies sent back in time to stop Jesus. Jesus is a zombie. Jesus is the original carrier. "Eat of my flesh and you shall have eternal life" indeed. =Smidge=
  5. Well, Sockman, you realize that Jesus himself was a zombie. Coincidence? =Smidge=
  6. http://www.slashfilm.com/2009/05/01/peter-jackson-to-direct-nazi-zombie-time-travel-movie/ Movie Premise: Nazi zombies sent back in time to prevent Jesus from being born. Directed by Peter Jackson. Discuss. =Smidge=
  7. Either of them have integrated video? Not optimal but it'll get you thought for now. =Smidge=
  8. Windows 7 sucks so bad that Microsoft is literally cramming an XP virtual machine into it, 'cause they know nobody's going to fucking use Windows 7. Reformatting will not solve a hardware problem. This sounds like a hardware problem. If it hangs when plugging in USB devices, it may be a poorly grounded/marginal USB bus or header. The machine I'm using right now has similar problems - if I don't touch the USB connector of my thumb drive to the case first, the machine will hang when I plug it in. There's definitely something funny with electric potentials going on but I've never actually solved it. Hardware problems are easy to test. =Smidge=
  9. A faulty power supply can also be the cause. Bad power = unstable system. If you happen to have a spare laying around (probably not, but...) or another computer with a compatible supply, try swapping it out and see if it gets better. Of course, the PSU is only one component in the power supply chain. Faulty capacitors on the mainboard can also cause sporadic system failures. Cheap boards mean cheap capacitors, and cheap capacitors can go south very quickly. If your system was shutting down on heat, there would be an alarm to do along with it. =Smidge=
  10. That's really strange. I can't remember when TSSZ was ever the "Official" SAGE news source. =Smidge=

  12. Nope. Anyone want to take a crack at fixing the main site? It's written in Javascript/PHP using an AJAX framework. =Smidge=
  13. It's almost as if nobody knows I have several e-mail addresses. =Smidge=
  14. I'd kinda like to see Phantasy Star Universe redone by Valve. Does that count? =Smidge=
  15. Except not, from a hardware perspective Nintendo was always about two years behind SEGA since the 16-bit era. More if you include some of the Master System's stuff (stereoscopic goggles, anyone?) Now get off my lawn, and don't make me use my Odyssey2 =Smidge=
  16. Chatrooms DO need maintenance. They need to remain occupied to maintain settings and "registered" status. They need to be monitored and policed to prevent abuse and vandalism. The problem actually gets WORSE with fewer people. Plus it's depressing to be the only one around. It's easier to just seal it off. =Smidge=
  17. Every year, we end up with an "official" SFGHQ chatroom that catches the spillover from the SAGExpo chatroom. Every year, the population of that channel dwindles to nothing in a few month's time. This community is just not the kind of place that can support a chatroom. It's a failed idea. Just let it go. =Smidge=
  18. That's odd. Last Thursday I read that sega "will close 110 arcades, cancel some games in development and seek to lay off 18 percent of its staff" including a 20% reduction in development budget. =Smidge=
  19. Can't be sure, but Avast! blocked a few attempts to connect to "trafficconverter.biz" which, after googling, appears to be a place the Confliker worm attempts to download itself. As of now I think I managed to break it enough that it stopped loading but I can't fully remove the suspicious bits. If this is true, that means I'm partially infected. First I'd like to ask for any opinions if this is the case, so let me share what I found: First thing I did was run a virus scan. That turned up clean (definitions updated earlier today). So it doesn't seem to be a full infection, considering it was blocked from downloading the full payload. Second, I loaded up NetLimiter to check which processes were trying to connect. I didn't get screencaps of that, but it basically told me to look closer at the ever ambiguous "svchost.exe" Next came ProcExplorer for a much closer look. All these screencaps are post-tinkering so things won't look quite the same as they did: Well ain't that great? What I ultimately did from here was deny all permissions to these two services for all users, Admin included. This is probably the root cause of me being unable to remove them, but it's also what seems to keep it from recurring. There are two files associated with these processes: "wrzfzre" is loaded from "vcouy.dll" and "zxwxgxgwj" is loaded from "jnqqy.dll" I was able to locate and rename "jnqqy.dll" but "vcouy.dll" was nowhere to be found. Sure enough, these two things appear in the services list: Locked in a perpetual state of "Starting." Digital limbo. Something like a benign tumor. The warnings about connecting to trafficconverter.biz have since stopped, and virus scans still turn up clean. It seems like it's been neutralized but I'd really like to remove it. Yes I have applied the appropriate patches at this point... Any thoughts, you guys? =Smidge=
  20. Yeah, seriously. You should never use fire against zombies. =Smidge=
  21. I'll add it to the list. I've also been thinking about tweaking the news script to properly fix the long-post problem and add some widgets so you and Slingerland will actually use some fucking links instead of pasting plaintext URLs. ...yoU DID realize you can put HTML into your posts, right? =Smidge=
  22. Oddly enough, I looked it it the other day and thought "Jesus, this still isn't done?" Then I thought how, for over a year already, nobody has said anything about it. At least not to me. Makes me think nobody gives a shit and therefore not worth the effort to fix. =Smidge=
  23. // Input: UNIX timestamp // Output: UNIX timestamp // Currently only works for one-year differential. Suggest using multiple // times for multiple years. function this_day_in_history($t) { $dd = explode(" ", date("n j Y", $t)); // Leap year correction: Add one day if (date("L", $t) == 1 && date("z", $t) >=60) $dd[1]++; if (date("L", mktime(0,0,0,1,1,$dd[2]-1)) == 1 && date("z", $t) <= 59) $dd[1]++; return mktime(0,0,0,$dd[0],$dd[1]-364, $dd[2]); } Let me know if that works as expected. Edit: Bugfix... =Smidge=
  24. I'm assuming you just want to find the same "square" on the calendar one year ago? eg: If the calendar was one grid 7 columns wide by 53 rows long, what's the date using last year's numbers? Let me know if that's what you want, because it's pretty simple if it is. =Smidge=
