  1. Something im working a side the other projects, this was collecting dust in my HDD since i saw the last time i modified it was kinda june of 2009 XDDD, so i updated the game and scrapped the Time bullet effect in the game since i didnt got that functional whatever i did, so i keep it simple and im kinda Pre-rendering the sprites with help of Cinema 4D im still a noob about that program but i know a thing or two. This is a fan game from an old Horizontal sidescrolling space shooter called Jumpstar by Dexterity Software, i didn't have the chance by that time to buy the full game, so i keep playing the demo till i could do something about it, so that way its how this thing came to life, since when i wanted to buy the game Dexterity Software broke up, i tried to find the game since then but nobody has the full game just the demo, so i wanted to do a more Up-To date game and finish it once and for all. And yeah the game still has flaws, like some depth problems, some particles misplaced, and i have to finish the ice pilars and ice fragments from Nebula Gaslori and do the alternative pattern of attacks of the boss of that level, as you see in the screens it says "Test Galaxy" because in the original game when you go to a different galaxy in the hud says where you are, kinda useless i know but it adds up to the game i think.
  2. First of all, Chris Senn Music just fit those levels so good, more the Crystal Frost one, the Jade Gully is the same as the trailers or beta videos so is kinda familiar by now. Second i love that hud, is kinda a mix between the adventure style one and the Xtreme one just perfect i think.

In fact in some point of the development of Sonic Xtreme, the lifes were only a number in the upper right corner of the screen in the PC version of course, and in the upper left corner of the screen it was a ring with some numbers being the ring hud, also it looks like the numbers of that version were or the Nights style font or some kind of Sonic Adventure-ish kind of font. So, you can go that way and only show: |=========================| | Ox000 x03 | | | | | | | | | | | |=========================| Or keep it that way but you should add a Ring art to the ring hud, and a normal Sonic head like the icon of sonic unleashed, but that's just my opinion XDD
  4. Thanks there Asuma, thou i have to do the Knuckles one and the Tails one, but since there isnt any CG Renders of those two for Sonic 4, you guys know a good CG reference for Knuckles and Tails?

  6. well i can come up with some ideas, like you can try to implement in a fire level the same dinosaur like badniks from Hill Top Zone, the ones that shoots you fireballs from his mouth and if you destroy its head you can use his body as platform, also i dunno but they are tons of unreleased videos on youtube and even in Sonic Retro Forums was released some kind of 3D viewer that allows you to see all the levels of Sonic Xtreme, there is also one gameplay video that has kinda like a zoom tube made of rings, and kinda like a magic carpet gimnick, let me check some videos on youtube.   7. like squallff8 that "Sonic-sonic" kinda dont blend well with the game, it makes it look silly or something, maybe if you change it to like "Yeah!" or "Here we go!" could work out but i think the speed shoes doesnt need a sound to know they are speed shoes, aslo you can use the "Yes!!" from Sonic CD for that, but i think that Sonic-Sonic! is from that SNES hack of speedy gonzales Sonic 4 with the marios as checkpoints saying this. Now i think i know that the Sonic Xtreme Soundtrack was released by Chris Senn some time ago, i dunno but i think have heard it somewhere, you know it fits more with the game since part of the sources have leaked/released by now, also i think the Quadrant Quartz song fits for Jade Gully, even if it was a test for the game, it fits more i think. Yeah the glider is kinda big, KINDA but still cool, just work a little on that and you will get something even better.
  8. i think is a badnik or maybe just an automatic submarine, it doesnt looks like is a boss or that eggman is in it. i think the arms are fine maybe a little work on the fingers yes because the last 2 fingers of his hands are kinda short, but is a Submarine badnik? or a badnik is inside that submarine and is piloting it? maybe if is the last one it could be cool if you destroy the badnik inside you can use the submarine for a while to pass across some areas, just an idea.
  9. since the very first screens of the game when it was called NoName back then i knew this could become in a very fine game, i tell you i love the looks that Sonic has, is more in the middle of the Sonic 1, 2 maybe and Sonic Ova look, kinda feels very nostalgic. But something that was bother me since the first 3d screens of this game it was the PC specs this game will need to run it, do you know already what the min specs are for this to run nicely? or you have an idea maybe if a decent PC could run it without problems or is need it a more powerfull PC? Because it was a 2d game and now that is kinda 2.5D maybe needs more than a decent pc to run it.
  10. i dunno, i didnt like FF11 because it was kinda i dunno, dull and hard sometimes, and too much "pay for this outfit and stuff" after FF9 kinda stoped to play FF games even when i tried FF11, dunno maybe i will give it a chance, but with all those graphics isnt gonna to have huge lags? i mean Lineage have serious lags because some of the graphics and i dont know about a game that has almost the same graphics that FF13, only time will tell XDD
  11. well there are many of them, GM is written in C+ if i remember right, so it can be a decent start, as well some of the 3D game creators are written in C++ or Lite C+ yes they are 3D oriented gaming creation tools but as well i saw pretty good 2D games come out of them, so is just go there and search a little.
  12. If i remember right there is one level rip in MFZ called Construct zone, but the field ones arent, is kinda difficult to search them as well since that game it isnt an actual Sonic team one, and is kinda unfinished as well, but if i find some of the tiles i will tell you.
  13. i know, that's why this is only a preview, the original is a PNG file, i do JPG pics just in case somebody got this file and used in their game, not that im saying that somebody are going to steal it, but just in case...
  14. Okay, now i redo the Radiant Shrine BG using now Sonic CD, Knuckles Chaotix and Jazz Jackrabbit sprites.
  15. @P3DRO: to answer the two things im going to do it here XDD, well yeah for a genesis style it has too many colors but if you look the original CGI rendered Sonic 4 Tileset, it has way more colors than my tiles, it has like 3, 4 colors used from the Sonic 4 original tilesets, i know the genesis palette is more limited than that, but since is a PC game and PC games doesnt has pallet limitations i wanted to give a more exact look at the sprites, if not it couldn't look as Splash Hill are. And yeah, looks like Icebergs, i wanted to do the reflection on the sea of the mountains, but yeah seems way too bright and looks like icebergs, i will try to fix that, now the ocean issue, yeah is too dark, i kinda looked at Apotos landscape with the bright sky and dark blue ocean all around apotos, but kinda make it too darkish, maybe i can fix that easly thanks for the tip, also the loop is that way because is kinda like a ruined shrine, so i mixed with bricks and stones with dirt parts to give the sensation of being like a ruin, but the BG and some tiles and stuff are WIP for now, those are that way only to show the engine and stuff and not having a black colored level with a grey/green/black background.

Why such complicated things, why dont just negate the homing attack with some of the Elemental shields like Electro and Bubble and for Fire Shield just add a fireball effect to the homing attack with a blast when you hit an enemy with it allowing to destroy enemies nearby also as well being a torch. And for the Electro and Bubble just having the normal Bounce/double jump effect but without the homing instead, i mean why you want a homing attack if you have a bouncing move that let you reach places or keep momentum, and the electro as well of doing the same thing but magnetizing rings as well, also they can have a extra effect i dunno, electro kinda giving the abillity to magnetize into some kind of metal gimnick or a magnet bed similar to the electric beds of Death Egg allowing sonic to "float" to the another side, and the bubble well it could be used as well as the Normal Shield but more powerful, allowing sonic to bounce off the energy bullets that comes at him, but as well getting more weaker with every hit, i dunno just an idea.
  17. @LarkSS: okay thanks for the tip, i did the two of them to see who suit better the Oldschool theme of the game, as i thought the first one is better suited for that i started to do some Splash Hill genesis tilesets: Sorry for the WIP across the image, is just in case i see somebody using it without my permission. This are just the start, im using part of the Emerald hills and Green Hill tilesets to do the Splash Hill ones, i figured this out since every level in Sonic 4 is the same as Sonic 1 levels, so i kinda thought that doing the tilesets of splash hill zone with the Green Hill ones is the best way to get them right, any suggestions? ideas?

I think for more simple games is good to have the story in some kind of short cutscenes in-game like those of Sonic 3, but maybe is as well too BIG so something like Sonic 1 or 2 were is kinda "imagine your own story" while you are playing the game suits more i think, make it simple man, you know make kinda a short intro and then BAM! act 1 finished, act 2 finished, boss, new zone act 1 and so on till the final zone, i think that way you guys can focus more in level design, gimnicks, and enemies, than a complicated plot, you know this is a fan game, we dont need complex stuff XDDD
  19. well is a good idea, but i want a more Genesis style to the game, because it isnt RE-genesis if i use the same sonic sprites from Sonic 4, then the game could be Sonic The Hedgehog 4 PC XDDD, look at it as is the same thing but instead of pre-rendered sprites, you have the same pixel art as if it were made in actual genesis hardware, only for PC
  20. here with more screens of Re-Genesis, but now i dont know what pause could look good if a Sonic 4 type of hud, or this other i did that kinda makes me remember Sonic 3 titlecard a little 1rst one: 2nd one: i did this because i dont know yet how the "PAUSE" looks in the real game so i thought in giving it a little of my own taste, so, opinions?
  21. while i cant say that's impossible to fake lighting because is very possible even Game Maker can do some pretty HD lighting and shadows, it could nearly impossible to run because since GM games kills some of the virtual memory, with fake or not effects added it will kill not the VM but the PC itself, also it depends in how the engine can handle fake lighting and shaows, but i could love to see this with some cool PSX lighting. As for the head, if i remember the lives icon in the original Sonic Xtreme was mostly a sprite of a little sonic from the Sonic 3 continue sprite with a Sonic and a X added that could work for the moment, but maybe using some of the Sonic pre-renderer sprites and take just the head. or better yet: the first one hasnt to be that way but more cleaner and nice could work, i dunno if those are enough to explain what the Lives icon head could look like, but is just an idea.
  22. More Spriting work, Super Sonic Sonic 4 style, i have to fix some issues about him, add the aura, and finish the other sprites as well for some of the sonic.

More screens of what im been doing with worlds: Sonic mid running sprite Sonic fullspeed running sprite Sonic Spindash sprite Sonic 4 style springs (Red and Yellow) Sonic 4 style dashpads (sprite base from Sonic 2 dashpads) well that's all i got till now, the Dashpads are a minor modification from the Accelerator Gimnick that delta has, thou i dont have the vertical and ceiling daspads aswell the left and right ones i will try to do them as soon as i know how to XDD.
  24. Thanks man, my intention doing that sprite is to give the old genesis feel but at the same time keeping the design that the HD counterpart has, so is kinda downgrading the Sonic sprite from Sonic 4 into a genesis state.

Well i finally got MMF2 so im still getting the hang of it, so you guys remember the 3D Splash Hill pics i posted here the other time? well im going to try to separate that project into 2, the 3D one and this 2D version of it, i call it Sonic 4 Re-Genesis (well for now is a working title, and i think i remember somebody doing a game called Sonic Re-Genesis so sorry if i took the name ñ_ñ) i didnt do much for the moment only some spriting work on sonic, so i used Sonic 3 sprites as base for the Sonic 4 sprites, here is a pic of it: Yeah for now im using Delta as base, later on i will add the things missing.
