Mobian Crisis - new completed fanmade Sonic game

Hello mates,

My name is Singo, and I just wanted to tell about a fan-made Sonic game that actually was released this morning, called "Mobian Crisis". This game was made by some guys in Osaka, Japan, calling themselves "City night Light Productins" and I too had a part of it, giving advice, helping out with cut-scenes and a few other things...Im talking on behalf of the rest of the team, because the others dont speak english too well. Ill answer any questions you might have.

This is an actiongame and as the story goes, Dr Eggman has planted bombs all over Mobius that will detonate in 72 hours, and only four heroes, namely...

Mighty the Armadillo
Ray the Flying Squirrel
Fiona Fox
and Geoffrey St John

...are able to prevent disaster. Except for liberating the planet, each of them have individual goals: Mighty is trying to find his long-lost sister, Matilda, while Ray is trying to rescue his girlfriend, Sunshine. Fiona hopes to get reunited and forgiven by Tails, while Geoffrey seeks pardon for his crimes against the Mobian kingdom in the past. There are, in other words, 4 possible endings, depending on your decisions.

As the game was made in Japan, the game itself is in Japanese also, and even has a japanese narator during some of the sequences, with just a little bit of english here and there. Several cutscenes are in the game as well.

Each player has its unique fighting pattern, and there is a main story and final story. It is possible to buy extra time and weapon upgrades, by farming credits while playing the game. The game does not have the traditional Sonic 2D game layout, but should more give accociations with older arcade action games, such as Ikari Warriors.

The reason that we didnt tell anyone about this game project was that we didnt want to feel any time pressure of completing the game at any specific time, but to work on our own and have the game done whenever it indeed was finished.

Some screenshots are attached to this post, and some videos were posted on youtube this morning. Our biggest problem right now is that we dont have any actual place to host this game, as it is rather large, 445Mb, but it available from Mediafire on: http://www.mediafire.com/download/4013atbh7vwntvd/mobiancrisis.exe ). A single exe-file, no setup required. Has been re-downloaded and tested on separate computer, works perfect.

Enjoy (we hope :) )

Oh wow, this is actually pretty cool. Its kinda refreshing to see a fan game feature characters that are other wise ignored AND bringing in completely original mechanics at the same time. I watched all of the game play videos and I think you guys have done a great job on it. A few of the mechanics were pretty interesting too and I liked how each character did play differently than the others, it kept things fresh and interesting. The only thing I saw that left me a little concerned was that I couldn't tell how much health the player had. I don't know if I was just blind and didn't see a bar or number or something but I'm not sure how you're supposed to know how close you are to dieing.

As for looking for a place to upload it there are a few places you can upload something large like that, at least in terms of english websites. I'm not aware of any big japanese file hosting sites so I can't help you there, but for english sites I recommend either www.mediafire.com or mega.co.nz  since I think they are rather flexible. I'd love to play this sometime though, possibly lets play it.

Thanks a lot for the advice! Yes, I did have a look on Mediafire as you sugested, and it works great. The game is uploaded now at: http://www.mediafire.com/download/4013atbh7vwntvd/mobiancrisis.exe and I tested downloading the game on a separate computer, and it runs perfect. Thank you!!

As for the health, no, you are certainly not blind. There is no health bar. Your only enemy...is time itself. You start the game with 72 hours (not 50 as in the video, it was increased) and when you run out of time, the game is over. All players share the same time ammount so to say, it is saved between the stages. If you get hit, you get a time penalty for tending the wounds. You can pick up some extra time (rings) on Ray and Fiona's stages.

I suppose another possible name for the game could have been "Mobian Time Crisis". ;)

Pretty unique! It's nice to see fangamers work outside the box with their games! I've got plans for a Sonic game in the vein of Digimon World 2. Also, could you put that 3D Fiona Fox model up for download? I'd like her for a project i'm making in Sonic GDK.

That game would fit perfectly in an arcade machine in the 90'! It remembered me the shooters that I played a lot like Sonic Wings and Aleste mixed with Streets of Rage. The cool thing that I noticed is that you guys published it already completed. How long the game took to complete? What are you plans after this one - another fan game or something more serious like an indie or other? I bet anything you guys do will look cool as this one.
