Apricity
Other fangames and this is going to sound silly either the shower or the toilet. But mostly looking at other games inspires me and drives my ideas ^^
Blue Emerald
Oddly enough, a lot of my great ideas occur when I'm taking a hot shower. In fact, a few months ago I had to develop an Unreal level for a college project and couldn't think of anything; after ten minutes in the shower, I had an entire three-story level thought up! No kidding.
Apricity
Sweet ^^ I tend not to work well under pressure and I find that a shower really makes me relax, thats probably my reason for it.
GameNerd Advance
Alright I'm going to say it. Does anyone smoke pot? I've heard it helps people be creative and a friend of mine who is making a fan game says it helps him. Not gonna lie, this does have its advantages. However, whilst being stoned and/or intoxicated gives you creative ideas, it goes against traditional means of efficiency and recording. It's not very constructive to try writing a design document or start a sprite sheet when you've had a spliff or two and a pack of beers, so it's more sensible to just jot down the ideas you have when in an altered state of mind, and refine them later on, since alot of the crap comes out when you're stoned too. Not that it makes much difference to me anyway, most of my design ideas go unrealised due to me being completely absent minded when it comes to programming/implementation xD
Hybrid35
Well, people have different ways of making different games. That's what makes us all human. The funny thing is that people run out of ideas or are just too lazy to finish a game. Or just don't like the topic.
InstantSonic
One way I get creative about things is bouncing ideas that I come up with on the fly off of friends/fellow fan gamers. I find that just brainstorming in general is the best way.
