RockyRaccoon
Hey guys. I've felt the need to work on something 'Fun' as of late, so I've gone ahead and started to make 'Glide'... here! Website http://glide-game.110mb.com/ About 'Glider' is an old Mac game. You guide a Glider (A Paper Airplane) through a house, using vents for lift, while avoiding obstacles, other faster paper airplanes, paper 'helicopters' (remember making these?), and jumping fish, popping toasters and such. The idea was to escape the house. Glide will be a fangame in such a same vein, a homage if you will, to this game I used to play when I was a kid. Screenshots Because the screenshots would strech the table horribly, I'll link you to them instead: http://glide-game.110mb.com/Screenshots.html Demo Because you're all so special, I'm gonna go ahead and post the early alpha demo here. It's one room, and shows how vents keep you afloat, how grease can be used to avoid death on a tabletop, and the Battery and Rubber bands power-up. It's an Alpha Demo and just meant to show off the engine. You can download it here: DEMO DOWNLOAD Music The Piece you are hearing in the game is called 'Glide Time' and was made specfically for the game by Joan-Michelle/Valerie. Please do not steal. Thank you for your Time!
Cyber Rat
Well, given how short this is, the only thing I can say is to make the falling smoother and more paper-like. It felt like this thing was on a string.
OverbounD
I agree with what Rat said but you should also make the vents look more like they do something they just look the background right now.

That, or add some visible air streams. Also, I think you should be penalized somehow if you get blown all the way to the ceiling.
RockyRaccoon
That, or add some visible air streams. Also, I think you should be penalized somehow if you get blown all the way to the ceiling. You can't, unless the Air stream is made to go to the ceiling as part of the puzzle. ;P. Some Air Streams'll only let you go halfway up, or some aren't even on at all unless a switch is pushed, etc. This is how the orignal game was, so this is how I'd like my fangame. I've been toying with the idea of making the air streams 'visible', I've just been trying to make a good airstream sprite that looks good when it's copied, and doesn't look...jagged. As for the movement, it can feel like that at times I suppose. How do you suggest I fix this codewise? Right now, I'm doing it rather simply. I don't think I locked the .cca, so you can see just how simple it is. ;P

As for how to do it... Well, it's been a long time since I've used a clickteam product... Maybe allow the plane to accelerate slightly when starting to fall? Just so it doesn't look like an elevator with the constant falling and rising. EDIT: And kudos for doing a simple project, we need more of them here, just to increase the flow of games. Simple doesn't have to mean bad. I hope you make people realize that with this game.

If you're making it to play like the original then forget my comment. But make the vents more "noticeable".
RockyRaccoon
Yeah, I'm trying to get as close to the orignal as I can. I'm not trying to improve on the genre, merely trying to copy the feel of it. And yeah, Noticeable air currents are planned, as I stated.
The Taxman
hahaha Glider! Man this takes me back to primary school, it was like the hottest game we had on the school computers (we only had macs)
Aerosol
there's acceleration on ascent, raccoon. Good job though!

Thats...a pretty cool game, lol. Do you plan on adding fun little hazards? Like cats that swipe at you or knocked over candels that torch your airplane? Seems like a game that would be fun with those kind of "unexpected" hazards.

Candles also Provide lift, due to the thermal excess, but if you get too close to the flame.. you get caught on fire. As for Cats, yeah, the Cat, has tradtionally been 'The Last Boss' of the game series of Glider, sitting on that Windowsill, ready to bat you away before you can escape outside.
