SonicGDK 1.20.109 (along with playable levels inside)
Xaklse replied to Xaklse's topic in Game Project Showcase
Not yet, in my opinion the engine lacks some key features. Once it's done I'll release a small package with all scripts and stuff. If anyone wants to get started with the engine, he/she could start to get used to the standard UDK and learn how to use it with tutorials; it will be needed anyways for SonicGDK. Btw, is the current version perfect for you? -

Thanks people, waiting for feedback (hint, hint). That's weird, I do have it in a different partition. -

Hmmm, I can't reproduce that error so I don't know what to say. People has already tested the release and had no problems (aside from the DirectX issue). Try with another installation directory? -

Preview Release 3 is up; check first post for more details. YOU NEED THE LAST DIRECTX 9.0c (JUNE 2010) TO PLAY - Download links: FileFactory / MediaFire / MegaUpload / SendSpace - What's new: * Sonic. * 2.5D system. * Camera system. Reports about bugs and suggestions to improve are welcome. Also, I would really like to know how do you feel about basic controls. -

It's not skills (well, sorta ), it's more about wasting 3 years of my life on this. There is something really important to do: custom cameras; without them any game becomes boring and unplayable with gamepad. For the next releases I have to restore monitors, spikes, badniks, light dash... add 2.5D and more... -

I honestly forgot about this model, which is also available for PC. Thanks for the remainder. There is no release date; I think there will be another Preview Release (3) before I publish the source code. -

Video about last public release is ready for watching .I appreciate your comments DW, you made me think about what's more important; I'll ask about the same matter at Retro too though since there isn't enough input here. -

It's fixed in preview release 2; where do you fall off? I did on purpose, it's just a placeholder for side-stepping. So, am I right to assume that this amount of comments annoys you? Even with color highlighting? -

That issue has already been addressed in the last release Is it confusing or annoying? I don't think so but I might be wrong. -

It WILL be open source with the first non-preview release, it isn't yet because the code is a mess (specially for someone who doesn't understand UnrealScript) and I plan to comment every line and explain most algorithms. I ask for your patience, or ask me anything here and I'll answer you. -
Well, don't get me wrong; building a 3D Sonic game engine from scratch is a titanic goal, so in case he wants to finish it within this decade I suggest him to not re-invent the wheel. There are some cool open-source libraries from which you can learn while using them, and I did learn a lot. What are you (justin123) considering to use as a base for your game engine? Just C++ with STL and DirectX/OpenGL? Bullet Physics provides you with a collision module that you can use alone but I would use the full thing.

Use Bullet Physics and OGRE/Irrlicht/Horde3D, don't reinvent the wheel.

The process of creating a new character is independent of UDK. Basically the whole process can be performed with 3D tools like Max or Maya and it's long unless you use a stock generic skeleton with its animations. Steps to follow: So you downloaded the full UDK and tried to open the test map of SonicGDK? It is protected, code too. -

The default game settings are very aggressive, prioritizing visual acuity over performance. I suggest you to change the video settings to gain fps. Will do. Not sure right now, I'll take a look to UDK docs. -

Hmmm, looks like the grey tube isn't really useful for me :/, thanks anyways. Too much to do (( es demasiado curro... ._. ))Jumps are too slow?? Play/watch Sonic Unleashed or the classic games; I tried to mimic those jump timings. Cool stuff, I want your help, will contact you when I get some spare time and see what can you do. And I love that twist! Me wants it :3_ And thanks Scarletdark, take a look at . -

Less loops and more twists. The purple twist seems like it's too low-poly to me; am I right? -

Preview Release 2 is up; check first post for more details. - Download links: FileFactory / MediaFire / SendSpace - What's new: * Much better Sonic Physics and momentums. * Revamped test map. * Added rolling on ground and SpinDash. * Gamepads are supported. Spinball looks like shit because I can't add new animations to the Cathode robot model. Reports about bugs and suggestions to improve are welcome. Also, I would really like to know how do you feel about basic controls. - Help needed: Someone who wills to rig and/or animate this Sonic model or another one. Someone who wills to model crazy static meshes (like these ones) to test Sonic physics. -
Ironically you never asked for help. Don't worry, I'm sure all stuff are still in WIP state. I'm afraid I don't understand you; make sure you aren't using the UT2004 demo for ADR.

Lighting system has been improved in UDK, it's faster than UT3 version. Code is top priority, then I'll care about SEGA related assets. No, this is an open 3D game engine which uses Ashura Dark Reign code adapted for UDK (Unreal Engine 3.x). -

SonicGDK is a codebase, a collection of source codes, which allows anyone to create 3D platformer video games based on the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise. It can be freely modified and is integrated with the UDK, providing you with a modern game engine in which to develop your game. Unreal Development Kit (UDK) is the Unreal Engine 3, a complete professional development framework used to create games on the PC. Visit www.udk.com for more information. The custom assets bundled with SonicGDK were created by several contributors and supplied for testing purposes. - System requirements: • Windows XP SP2, Windows Vista, Windows 7 or Windows 8 • 2.0 GHz single-core processor • 2 GB system RAM • Shader Model 3.0 compatible graphics card (Nvidia GeForce 8600GT or better, ATI Radeon X1950Pro or better) - Download links (choose source code or standalone): • Source Code (1.20.109; requires UDK July 2013): LINK • Windows standalone .exe (Packaged Release 9; requires nothing): LINK • MacOS standalone .dmg (Packaged Release 6; requires nothing): LINK - Installation, keyboard/gamepad buttons, featured moves: Read the readme file, or visit the wiki. - Website with forums: - Media: Preview Release 5 Trailer (2011) - Tutorials: HERE - Other playable games done with SonicGDK: HERE -
Wow, so much opposition. You do believe that we've done a lot of stuff for UT2004; aside from code, the truth is that few progress has been made in 3 years (the Tech Demo doesn't count for the full game), believe it or not. We're not going to switch engines, at least for now. Since I'm not part of the active team (no coders left in the team btw), I'm planning to code a dev kit of Sonic games for the UDK. Anyone interested?
